Brief
Audience & Tone of Voice
Deliverables
The brief is to create a new travel App which specialises in creating a planner and itinerary for a visit to any city in the world.
The App is to be aimed at those who are planning holidays, trips or just want to see what is available in cities around the world. The tone of voice should be friendly, informative and educational.

Current App Research
Aesthetic Research
Looking at current Apps which are out there for travel, it is clear that there are a few large brands, all of which are about booking the holiday and book accommodation, not so much about planning the full trip. There are also App, such as TripAdvisor which are rating activities. These all also show large images of the activities and cities, showing that the imagery is an important part to the Apps and design.
Looking into the aesthetic designs which seem effective are those which are very simple and easy to navigate through. The use of iconography is also popular as it illustrates the different sections to the App. The use of colour is also quite minimal in terms of overall colour scheme, with a lot of focus on the photographic images.

Brand Development The brand name was decided from the beginning. ‘Visit’ was decided on because it works across travel in general and any city name can be placed after it. The icon within the name is based off a map marker, and this was developed to be eventually integrated into the text. The marker is created to be bespoke and an individual marker for the brand so it can be used on its own.

Colours
The logo is a simple sans serif typeface with the bespoke marker integrated to create the ‘v’. It is simple and in grey to work over light colours and imagery as well. The idea is that city names will be placed underneath the logo, so the marker is ‘landing’ on the city.
The typefaces used across the brand are all variations of the sans serif typeface ‘Montserrat’. This is to make all text as easy to read as possible at small sizes.
The colours are bold and bright to be striking and playful throughout the App. The dark grey is used for text and is an alternative from black to keep a playful and more youthful look to the App. The main colours throughout the App are the green, red, dark grey and white, with supporting colours in light grey and light cream.

The Concept & App The App is designed to be a planner for trips and holidays to all cities around the world. It works by showing the user all the activities available in the cities and allowing them to create a full plan for every day of their stay in the city. The design of the App is to keep everything as simple as possible, with a variety of base pages designed to run across every city available.

Aesthetic Decisions Following the research it was decided to use flat design and iconography as the design for the App as this will keep a contemporary and simplistic design across all pages of the App. Using flat design will make usability clear and simple. The icons created are bespoke and are created for each individual section of the App. These also follow the aesthetic of being simple and flat. These run throughout all pages on the App.

Creating A New Trip When the user first opens the App, they will have the option to sign up or log in if they are a returning user. Following this they will be taken to the initial ‘My Trips’ page. This is where all their current trips are displayed. To add a new trip, they are required to fill in a short form in which they choose the location, party number and arrival and departure dates.

Creating A Plan Following the creation of their trip, the user will be taken to the ‘Current Trips’ page - the homepage for that specific trip. On this page they are able to see the day number, date, and the temperature. This also opens two new options at the top of the page - ‘Activities’ and ‘Planner’. There are also eight icons, two of which are general information, and six which link to the activities, all categorised.

Choosing A Category When the user chooses a category they are taken to the list which shows all activities under that category. Here they can peruse through all the events. The top grey bar also allows them flick through all six categories for activities.

Choosing An Activity On the activity page, there is a photographic image of that specific activity, as well as a short description about it, opening times if applicable. There is also a scrollable list of other activities close by, shown in image form at the bottom. There are two options on this page - ‘view on map’, or ‘add to planner’. The ‘view on map’ allows the user to see exactly where this is on the map of the city. The ‘add to planner’ brings up a small calendar where the user is able to pick a date and time to visit this activity.

My Planner
Map My Route
Once the user has chosen the activities that they want to do for a specific day, they can switch to the ‘my planner’ tab at the top, which shows all of these activities for the day. Here they can flick through all the days of their trip and continue to add activities.
At the bottom of the ‘my planner’ tab, there is a ‘Map My Route’ button. This creates a map between all the activities. This comes in two forms, a visual map style and a visual list. The user is able to flick between the two. The map allows them to see the route they must take, whereas the list allows them to see the times. Each travel option has a different colour, for example, travelling on land is in the green, whereas travel by water is in blue. This creates a clear visual for the users to follow.
Emily Lodge
Once the activity is added to the planner and routed in the map, the user is able to click on the activity from the map or planner. This will take them to a simplified activity page where the book time and day is clear, with an option to see the full activity page, view the activity on the map or set a reminder to notify them at a chosen time. They also have the option to edit the visit time if needed.

App Promotion The App will have a full promotional campaign rolled out on the launch, promoting the ease and simplicity of the App and reflecting this in the design. These will also show a variety of screens and variety of features available in the App.
