The concept I have chosen is to create a website which looks at the history of the alphabet and the evolution from the very first alphabet. There will be a focus on particular alphabets through history, showing a clear journey from one to another, linking them to the alphabet we know today. On top of this, the main focus is on the symbols, showing clear images of these.

An approachable and understandable tone of voice, with easy to read information about the alphabets and symbols.

The media for this brief is entirely digital. In that the designs will be created to a 1200x800px screen, as well as proposals for a tablet screen size and a phone screen size.

As the subject is narrowed down into one specific area, the audience has to be people who are interested in this area of type, and designers who are wanting contextual research.

Content

The content of the website is five main alphabets which have evolved from one another, showing the changes from the original to the current alphabet we know today. A time line page is also included, showing the various important points in the development of the alphabets of the world.

Design Choices

The majority of websites dedicated to this subject are relatively dull with a lot of dark colours used. I decided that I would make this one more interesting to look at and easier to navigate around. I did this by using just two colours and one typeface throughout the website, relying on vector images of the symbols to represent the writing systems & cultures.
