AFFORDABLE RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES The vision of the Recreation, Culture and Community Life Department is to contribute to the cultural and recreational quality of life of our citizens. This is why the Recreation Department and local organizations work together in order to remove as many barriers as possible to participation in activities.

Jumpstart Ages 4-18 years old

Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a community-based charitable program that helps kids in financial need aged between 4 and 18 years old to participate in organized sports. To request funding from Jumpstart, fill out the form located at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex. KidSport 6-18 years old KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment for kids aged 18 and under. The sports discipline needs to be a member of Ontario Sport and of the Hawkesbury KidSport™ organization. Annual matching grants cap out at $200 per kid. To apply, go to: www. kidsportcanada.ca.

Every year, the Recreation Depar tment and the employees of the Town of Hawkesbury work several months in advance to organize a day of celebrations. This year, it will be bigger and better as we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada! Kids’ activities, food trucks, fireworks, DJ D-NOY, 50 Proof and Hommage aux Colocs and much more! Come and join us for a day of fun!

OTTAWA RIVER FESTIVAL UNITED COUNTIES OF PRESCOTT AND RUSSELL

400 years ago, Samuel de Champlain discovered the Ottawa River. Since 2012, the Prescott and Russell region celebrates with a festival. The festival includes an ar t exposition, activities, a BBQ and a variety of shows that will be offered in Chute-à-Blondeau, Hawkesbury, L’Orignal, Lefaivre, Wendover and Rockland. MARATHON

KRAKEN MARATHON SERIES Kraken Marathon Series is a series of races with multiple distances (2, 5, 10 and 21.1km). The Kraken Marathon also offers a 5km walking race. Beginner or experienced, we are waiting for you for this fantastic run series.

FIREFIGHTERS COMBAT CHALLENGE HAWKESBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Firefighters Combat Challenge acknowledges the physical ability of the firefighters and demonstrates the precision of the profession. Dressed in the firefighter uniform, the contestants challenge each other in a timed race. They have to accomplish a series of tasks such as jumping a 4 storeys tower, rescuing a dummy victim of 185 pounds, etc. September 9, 2017 Confederation Park, 2 John Street

OPEN PICKLE-BALL WEDNESDAY 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Fee/$3 INDOOR COURT – SPORTS COMPLEX Pickle-ball is a racket sport that lets you have fun and get in shape: a badminton sized court, a tennis net, an oversized ping-pong racket and rules similar to tennis. Pickle-ball will create an enjoyable hour. Come and try it out!

URBAN POLING WEDNESDAY - 11:30 AM FREE STARTING AT THE SPORTS COMPLEX BEGINNER - Derived from cross-country skiing, Urban Poling is an outdoor sport that consists of accelerated walking with specific walking poles.

OPEN BADMINTON TUESDAY 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Fee/$3 INDOOR COURT – SPORTS COMPLEX You like to play badminton but don’t always have a partner? Meet new opponents during our open badminton sessions. READING CLUB JU LY 5 TO AU G U S T 1 6 The TD Summer Reading Club is a bilingual program within Canadian public libraries that strives to engage children in the joy of reading during the summer months. This summer, kids are encouraged to escape their everyday, step outside their ordinary and seek the unknown and untamed through reading. Whether it’s outdoors, outrageous or out of bounds, the unexplored is calling, and with TD Summer Reading Club books, activities, and an unleashed imagination, kids can let go and find their wild this summer.

MEETI NG DAY O F T H E T D R E ADING CL UB At the Hawkesbury Public Library children (ages 6-12) are invited to attend the TD Summer Reading Club programs Wednesday mornings, July 5 to August 16 at 10:00 a.m., where a variety of activities including stories, crafts, games and surprises await. THE CLUB

Parks Program to make youth move this summer! The Club proposes various activities that are free in the park for youths who are not registered in a day camp, but who want to have fun this summer by participating in group activities. The Recreation Department’s team of counsellors invites youths between 10 to 15 years old to participate in a variety of sports and cultural activities. Special workshops will be offered at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex for youths that have been present during the week and have shown leadership skills.

Cadieux, Larocque and Old Mill Parks From July 3 to August 25 Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday activities will be held at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex Cancelled in case of rain Activities will be cancelled in the event of rain

No registration needed, there is no reason to stay at home this summer! Opening hours might change during summer depending of the attendance. Please note the youths are invited on a voluntary basis; it is not a babysitting service. The participants may arrive and depart at the park when they want. The counsellors will note the emergency contact information of the participants the first day of the program. All activities are FREE. Have a good summer!
