SPRING 2017
Seating your guests at rounds is not the only answer for a wedding. There are so many alternatives to ceremony and reception seating that are unique, yet practical. For example, your ceremony chairs can be slightly curved or angled in. This provides each guest with a great vantage point and creates an inviting atmosphere. Instead of the conventional round tables at your reception, try long tables or even a mix of the two. If you don’t want to go too far out of your comfort zone, switch up the seating at the head table. The photo below shows a round table for the couple, and long tables for the wedding party. This offers an intimate feel for the couple, while still including all of their best pals.
A wedding rehearsal should be a straight forward, quick, and easy. You are not practicing the ceremony itself (that would be very anticlimactic), you are practicing the processional, recessional and making sure everyone knows where they are standing (or sitting for parents and grandparents). Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts to ensure your wedding rehearsal runs smoothly: DO: Arrive Early! If the rehearsal is scheduled at 5:00pm, tell everyone to be there at 4:30pm. This will assure the rehearsal actually starts on time. DON’T: Invite every person that is invited to the rehearsal dinner. Only invite the people that have a role in the ceremony (wedding party, parents, grandparents, readers). DO: Discuss where everyone needs to be before and after the ceremony. An even better idea is to give everyone an itinerary of sorts on the day of the rehearsal This way you are not running around trying to locate grandma for that family photo. DON’T: Choose the order of your wedding party the day of the rehearsal. Before the day of your rehearsal, decide who is walking with whom, and what order they will be in so that the rehearsal is as effective as possible
When creating a budget for your wedding, you always factor in the obvious expenses – venue, catering, flowers, etc., but there are a few other expenses that you may not consider right off the bat. Here are 24 things that most people do not account for when creating their budget:
It doesn’t matter how fantastic your DJ is, your guests will still want a place to relax—enter the increasingly popular lounge area. Here at Lomas, couples are incorporating lounge furniture on the patio to not only give their guests a place to relax, but to incorporate their theme and show off their aesthetic. Our go to gal for all things lounge related is Jillian Ziska, owner of To Be Designed. Jillian is insanely talented (she can build just about anything) and is a blast to work with. From couches, palette walls and arches, to silverware, signage and portable bars, To Be Designed has everything you could possibly need to give your wedding that extra flair. A little bit more about Jillian: All things pretty and unique have always been a passion for Jillian. Her desire to build and create new, unique pieces for her clients so they can experience a one of a kind event has always been at the forefront of her designs. She prides herself on keeping up with the trends, reinventing the old and creating the things we all wish existed. Her excitement to bring a specific aesthetic to the San Diego event industry has catapulted her into a fresh and exciting new territory where she blends the refined looks of our favorite home stores, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Anthropologie, West Elm & More.
In December of 2015, we had the pleasure of meeting Kristin, Jason and Kristin’s parents, Jeannie and Peter. Working with them was an absolute blast and we are excited to share this beautiful wedding with you. They have an insane list of vendors, too, all which contributed to their special day. There is another ‘congratulations’ in order for this perfect pair - Kristin and Jason are expecting a little girl in July!
THE PROPOSAL: Jason was scheduled to leave town on December 24th, so he and Kristin decided to have Christmas together the day before. Earlier that morning, Jason came back from the store with roses and a chai latte, two of Kristen’s favorite things. She didn’t think anything of it, because, yes, he is that romantic all the time. They opened presents later that day by the fire and after, Kristin got up to give Jason a hug to thank him for all the gifts. He then reached around the Christmas tree, and said "I think I have one more present for you". Jason opened the box and got down on one knee and the rest is history! A surprise engagement party ensued with the help of her parents and twin sister.
THE DETAILS: Kristin describes her overall theme as rustic, whimsical, and ethereal. They wanted a classy affair, but also wanted their guests feel relaxed and comfortable. They paired Silver Dupioni Shantung Linens and La Crème Napkins, courtesy of Concepts Event Design, and a mix of lanterns, candles and gorgeous, lush centerpieces. On the back patio, the couple had a stunning lounge set up provided by To Be Designed and more beautiful florals created by Amy at Evermore Floral Co. The ceremony site was complete with vintage doors which symbolized the ‘doors to their future’. The lovely cake made by Sweet Cheeks Baking Company, was later smashed into Jason’s face, and the party was closed out with a sparkler send off!
FAVORITE PART OF THE DAY: My father and I, arm in arm, pushed through the doors of the club, and started the walk down the aisle. All I could see in the distance was Jason's huge smile. In that moment my nerves went away. It was the happiest moment of my life. - Kristin Thank you to Kristin and Jason for sharing your big day with us here at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club!

“Early Roman brides carried a bunch of herbs, such as garlic and rosemary, under their veils to symbolize fidelity and fertility and to ward off evil. These herbs served as a precursor to the modern bridal bouquet. “ - Fact Retriever
