lomo lovers vol . 12
Y`^ ]`cd jnXg )'()
welcome. This issue is going to be slightly different.... Firstly we have been going for a year now and we have great community support, so we would like to thank everyone who reads our online books and to those who get involved, we couldn’t do it without you! Sadly we are going to spread our volumes out a bit more so it will be more like 3-4 a year due to the time it takes us to put them together. Secondly... a while back we put out a call for the lomo lovers big film swap 2012, and we got a great response! Sadly all didn’t make it back due to timings and losing films in the post, but we managed 13 full pairs! So 26 people in all from around the world who shot a roll of film, wound it back, sent it to their swap partner for them to shoot over the roll. We have collated the best shots an put the results in this volume! Oh... and you may find a couple of celebratory competitions inside! a little bit about us... Lomo lovers has been created by two sisters who have a passion for lomography and want to share what’s out there to fellow lomographers. We are creating monthly “inspiration books”. Different cameras, film, techniques and maybe some specialist features you name it, we just want to share it. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this issue, without you the book would be empty! We have also got ourselves a blog where you can reference tips and tricks to make the most of your analogue photography at www.lomolovers.com
1.
who are we?
we are two sisters from Buckinghamshire who have a passion for Lomography and vintage cameras. We both got our first cameras back in December 2010 and since then our collection has grown to over 40 between us. we love slide film and experimenting with different techniques, and we love being constantly surprised with the results that you just don’t get with digital photography. we are always inspired by the analogue community, and want to share this wonderful world with everyone.

Like Nic, it’s hard, but would say my top ones are LC-Wide, Vivitar UWS, Sprocket Rocket or Diana F+.

currently Fuji VelviaF 100 or Lomography chrome 100.
Kodak elite chrome 200 or Fuji Velvia.

a guide to techniques throughout the book we may highlight techniques of how the image was created here’s a rough guide to the terms
rats eye: this is where the camera is placed at ground level, it gives a great perspective and depth.
double exposure: one shot taken over the top of another usually using an mx button or finishing a roll, rewinding, then shooting on top.
home made redscale: take some colour film and put it in your camera the wrong way round, so you expose on the back of the film.
long exposure: using the bulb mode “B” you can create motion blurs. cross-processing: xpro for short. processing your film in the wrong chemicals gives your film more impact and saturated high contrast.
sprocket hole: modifying a medium format camera to use 35mm film, means you will have the image bleeding onto the sprocket holes.
coloured flash: get some coloured plastic gels, place one over the flash and experiment with colour.
panoramas: combining multiple shots of one subject to create one long overlapping image.
camera tossing: moving your camera or throw it in the air as you take the shot. giving a camera shake and motion blur.
microclicks: Overlapping, merging many exposures together so that they create a much more striking, fluid and cohesive panorama.
Inspirational lomographer of the month.... name: Adam Scott flickr name: Adam Scott - Not the golfer Adam Scott - Not the golfer’s
day job: General Manager for Lomography UK your favourite picture: I’m going to go with this one (right) a bit narcissistic to have me in the pic but it was a struggle to take with Low light and a baby moving around.
How long have you been into lomography / photography: I’ve been into photography since I was 9 or 10 when I bought a 35mm underwater Chinon point and shoot. I used to love pressing the shutter release and hearing the auto wind. My pictures were dreadful, usually images of my sister telling me to fuck off. Lomography came along around 2003 after I saw the BBC documentary. It quite literally changed my life. I couldn’t afford the LCA so got a Holga. This led to an obsession that culminated in me proposing Lomography repackage the Holga with a new book. Once this was done I worked with Lomography on other projects until eventually they asked me to set up the UK subsidiary.

What cameras do you own: Every single Lomography camera + a collection of 35mm point and shoots (XA, canon primas, espio mini) some old 120s (Dianas, brownies) and some 127 formats. I also have a Mamiya RB 67, Canon F1, some 110 cameras. Instant cameras and a Canon 5D MK2 that I hardly ever use.
Favourite film: I love grain so 1600 fuji both colour and B&W and for cross processing i sue Lomography Chrome and T64.
favourite shooting locations: whenever I’m on Holiday. In London now I just shoot my kids. My kids smiling, sitting, jumping, eating, hiding, playing and sometimes pooing. I guess it gets boring for people to see my shots now.
Favourite Camera / Film / Accessory Combination: Favourite camera changes but at the moment the Canon Prima 2 AKA Sure Shot Sleek - It’s the best point and shoot I’ve had. Like the LCA and Espio Mini it’s 32mm. Any film in this camera works great but mainly 1600speed or slide.

a bit about yourself: I think all the time, when people talk to me I listen but I’m thinking of other stuff. It really pisses my partner off and now even my eldest son is getting frustrated with it. Ironically I’m a good listener and love hearing about other peoples lives and hate talking about mine. Except now is ok. I grew up in Italy so people assume I’m half italian but I’m not. Some people call me Alex which annoys me as I’ve never met an Alex I would like to be like..
where would you like to shoot where you haven’t so far? Cities are my favourite. I would love to check out Tokyo and San Francisco. Any offers?
