BRAND FEATURE

COLLECTIF & LULU HUN

LULU HUN LE: How did Lulu Hun come into being? Lulu Hun the brand was started in 2015 in London as a vintage inspired footwear brand. The main concept was creating a vintage inspired range but was re-imagined with a more modern approach.

It’s a kind of magic!

LE: How would you describe this footwear brand? Our collections are created combining the 40’s & 50’s aesthetic, with an element of the new emerging pop culture, all mixed with a good dose of rock & roll! Our mission is developing a range of products recognisable for comfort and aesthetic, with a particular attention to details. Super sexy heels, funny flats, romantic block heels, comfortable wedges, men’s style brogues are all designed to give every customer the opportunity to express their personality & feel sassy and unique!

An outstanding example of the best in the lifestyle fashion industry, Collectif occupy a special place within LondonEdge. Purveyors of superb quality & unwavering design excellence, they’re a favourite of buyers from around the world. We popped over to get the gen on the Collectif brand along with their enchanting sister accessories brand Lulu Hun.

COLLECTIF LE: When & where was the brand Collectif created? Collectif started in 2000 in Camden Market.

LE: Where do the Lulu Hun designers get the inspiration? During the design process, inspiration is definitely the funniest part as literally everything can be the source of inspiration! Vintage fashion magazines, old photos, film noir movies, songs are at the roots of our research for one aspect of the design process. For the colour palette, the prints and the applications, the inspiration is totally free and completely without limits such as rough posters coming off the wall at the station which have a beautiful colour combination. The source of inspiration can be poetic as a rainbow appearing from your window or as simple as your sandwich with bright, vivid mustard inside which motivates to make a pair of shoes in that colour!

LE: How has the brand changed since its’ inception? Collectif have spent the last 19 years growing & evolving to really carve our place within the industry. Versatility & originality pervades Collectif’s design philosophy & is perfect for those looking for something different. We combine new fashion trends with classic Vintage styles, along with a good a splash of rock & roll! For us, our collections are more than fashion; they are about creating a timeless sense of romance and glamour set against an unconventional background. LE: How would you describe Collectif in 5 words? 1940s & 50s + Flattering + Timeless + Whimsical + Versatile LE: Describe Collectif’s customer or customers? We pride ourselves on catering for a wide range of customers. We sell UK sizes 6-22 across all our designs whilst our collection is very varied and includes styles re-designed for the modern woman. Our stand out designs for this winter include vampy velvet dresses (our Celeste Maxi Dress even has a detachable moon and stars mesh cape), whimsical prints including forest bunnies and enchanted unicorn glades, alongside classic ‘50s denim and plenty of the classic Collectif favourites synonymous with our brand. 06

LE: Are there any exciting product development planned? Yes! We’re proud to introduce two new products this season. We’ll be launching both sneakers and flip flops in bespoke prints! LE: What surprises has Collectif got in store for their wholesale customers at LondonEdge? We will be previewing our Spring Summer ’20 collection, this will be the first chance to take a look at what we have in store. We’ll also be showing our full Autumn Winter ’19 collection of Womenswear, Menswear, Shoes & Accessories.

LE: Which 5 words illustrate Lulu Hun’s collection at LondonEdge this season? Tropical + Romantic + Vintage + Strong + Colourful Our appreciation to the Collectif & Lulu Hun teams for sharing a little bit about the brands. You can share more by visiting them at September’s LondonEdge on stand M169. 07

BRAND FEATURE

HELL BUNNY & CHET ROCK THE HOUSE OF POPSODA S TA R R I N G H E L L B U N N Y & CHET ROCK The absolute masters of top quality garment manufacturing & the cornerstone of lifestyle fashion, PopSoda has been a consistent force within LondonEdge for almost 20 years. The home of Hell Bunny womenswear & Chet Rock menswear, we grabbed the opportunity for a chat to find out how it all began & what we’ve got to look forward to next season. LE: When & where was the brand Hell Bunny created? Hell Bunny was created in 2004 after being inspired by a trip to Japan. Having seen their amazing, creative fashion we felt there was a gap in the market for more adventurous but wearable fashion in in Europe & around the rest of the world. Our plan was to cater for people who wanted to look different from the mainstream. LE: What changes in style has the brand seen since its inception? We started with a lot of dark street wear, steampunk & Lolita styles. Since then Hell Bunny has constantly adapted to reflect the more unique alternative trends and consequently the brand has developed & grown hugely within the marketplace! We love mixing vintage and edgy fashion together with the modern twist and are proud to consistently create a selection of different styles that anybody can wear! LE: If Hell Bunny was a type of music, what style of music would it be? I’m not sure Hell Bunny could be just one style of music! The beauty about Hell Bunny is it can suit so many different styles so I think the type of music would have to switch depending on which garment you pick up! It could easily range from gothic to punk and even to a Disney soundtrack!

LE: Tell us a little bit about Chet Rock, the latest menswear addition to the Popsoda family. There are lots of new styles being added to Chet Rock over the coming months. You’ll see our bowling shirt range expand to include some really unique designs, including everything from leopard print to pastels! We’re also launching some new slimmer fit jeans and some wicked new overcoats - think lumberjack style! LE: What surprises have Hell Bunny & Chet Rock got in store for their wholesale customers at LondonEdge in September? Hell Bunny will be showing its’ new autumn/winter collection. We always love winter as we get to play around with Halloween & Christmas within our collection! Expect some revamped favourites and lots of ‘one of a kind’ prints! Chet Rock has some amazing new designs inspired by Hell Bunny prints...it’s not something we’ve done before and we can’t wait to see what people think!

Thanks so much to the team at Popsoda for taking time out. Make sure you take time out to visit their stand & enjoy the new collections available at LondonEdge September stand M105. 15

CHARLOTTE CROUCHER ARTIST & ANGEL We took some time to speak to the beautiful & talented Charlotte Croucher aka @charlotte-ameliaax Charlotte is a familiar face on the alternative scene & has regularly modelled for the LondonEdge campaigns. Not just a pretty face, Charlotte is also a talented make-up artist & gives us an insight into her life & style. LE: How did you first get into modelling? Charlotte: I began modelling for friends’ projects. My main passion was makeup & have posted pictures of my makeup transformations on social media for a while now resulting in me being more confident in front of the camera. I started to build my social media in 2017 & began collaborating with Illamasqua and Ash Cosmetics by using their products in my posts & I ultimately modelled in some of their video shoot campaigns. From this I developed a love of modelling & I now actively pursue it alongside my artistry!

LE: What made you first get into make up? Charlotte: I see makeup as an art form, a way to express myself & even escapism. I wore it at school for this reason & ever since it’s something I’ve done for fun. Because I’d always incorporated makeup into my projects when studying photography, film & media, I decided to study makeup artistry at university. I’ve finished my degree now and am freelancing whilst working for Kat Von D Beauty. LE: How would you describe your style? Charlotte: A witchy-librarian in the biggest platform boots I can find with a retro flair (when I feel like it!) LE: What are some of your favourite brands? Charlotte: Collectif, YRU, Demonia, Banned Apparel & Deandri, to name a few!

LE: You create some amazing looks, where do you get your inspiration from? Charlotte: Thank you! I’m inspired by everything from books, films & other artists, to history, music & nature. I’m a lover of classic literature & gain lots of inspiration from favourite writers ie. Dickens, the Brontes, Lewis Carroll, Edgar Allan Poe to name a few.

LE: How do you juggle your busy home life while making new content? Charlotte: Finishing university has been a major relief! Trying to juggle my deadlines, KVD, freelance MUA/Modelling & social media became difficult. I’m happy to be able to dedicate more time to social media content & artistry again. I just keep swimming!

I love theming my Instagram feed. At the start of the year I did a series where I re-created my favourite book characters/scenes. Last Spring I kept a Georgian/Rococo theme going (which is re-vamped this Summer & inspires my love of wig styling) which merged into a Disney series. I interpret characters from different eras & put my twist on them!

LE: Where can we follow you? Charlotte: I have two insta profiles: @charlotte_ameliaax, for makeup transformations, modelling, home decor, book collections & other spooky oddities & @ charlotteameliaartistry, for my makeup artistry.

WEBSITE & MAGAZINE

THE VINTAGE WOMAN “The Vintage Woman” lunched their website in February 2019, showcasing unique and forward thinking content, focused on the modern vintage woman. The website, which features regularly updated content, is a constant source of information for all vintage enthusiasts. Regular postings such as beauty tutorials, interviews with fellow vintage lovers, articles on travel and culture, spotlights on vintage shops, vintage event listings and much more, keep readers engaged and informed about the diverse vintage community that has been built all over the world. In May of 2019, The Vintage Woman launched the much-anticipated digital magazine, coined as the vintage style bible. With the theme of “Like a Boss” this 110-page online publication offers an amazing selection of interviews with acclaimed vintage icons, stunning photo shoots, and provocative articles with topics that reflect the interests of the modern vintage woman. Jade Stavri-Ratcliffe, owner of Scarlet Rage Vintage, created this venture after realising there was a gap in the market for a magazine geared towards women who wear vintage, yet have a modern outlook on life. The vintage community is spread out across the world, in many different countries, cities and communities. Having an online source helps to connect this extraordinary community together.

“The Vintage Woman Magazine” team is made up of a group of smart, clever and talented women, all of whom play a special role within the vintage community, and add a fresh perspective to the enterprise. All of the team members are professionals in their own right and lend their talents to provide a unique touch to each of the roles they play. The magazine also offers a chance for freelance contributors and writers from around the globe to highlight their talents by providing articles, interviews and other interesting content to the website and magazine, making it the first vintage-focused publication to take a truly international outlook. With the second issue on the horizon and a theme of “Identity”, the magazine is breaking down barriers by giving a positive voice to the diverse individuals within our vintage community, so they can showcase their own style, identity, and honour the way in which they wish the community to view them. “The Vintage Woman Magazine” is a digital, vintage style bible for individuals with a modern day perspective who live and love vintage fashion, style and glamour. The publication and website promotes and celebrates diversity, pushing the boundaries, acknowledging and sharing challenges and personal confidence. Having a strong focus on avant-garde and sophisticated vintage style, “The Vintage Woman Magazine” delves deeper into current issues, feminism, culture, travel and events, making it a well-rounded source for all.

“The concept behind this magazine and website is a forward thinking, inclusive publication that doesn’t just give you pretty pictures, but informative and thought provoking articles that are relevant to our community today,” said Jade Stavri-Ratcliffe, publisher. “We live in the modern world and deal with modern issues; we just happen enjoy the vintage aesthetic as well. Our vintage community is varied and unique and we want our website and magazine to reflect that.”

SPOT LIGHT

A DARK SHINING STAR Here at LondonEdge we love to discover the special people who boldly and unapologetically celebrate originality, creativity & inclusivity. We sat down with Jane Wilkes who’s been rocking an alternative style for her entire life. At the age of 57 she’s still keeping it bold with her gothic edge and keeps herself completely up-to-date with the latest make-up trends and techniques by watching tutorials on youtube. LE: Have you always been alternative in your fashion and dress sense? Jane: Yes, I can safely say that, even though I was not always able to be strictly on-trend as a child, my teenage years were definitely spent developing my love of otherness. LE: How has that style changed through the decades? Jane: Punk was a huge turning point in the 70s! I haunted jumble sales and used an old hand power Singer (sewing machine) to straighten the legs of jeans. I had blue and purple hair before it was fashionable too. The 80s were more New-Wave and then came Goth & then more Goth!!

The 90s’ carried on that way and, during that time, I was featured by the Beeb in a piece about the fact that most Goths are middle class. Nowadays I just make it up as I go along! LE: Have you noticed a change in people’s reactions in the street to your look? Jane: Yes, now that I have less hair, more wrinkles and my makeup is a bit more of a statement, I get more looks and more smiles from ladies of a certain age and above.

LE: Where do you buy most of your clothing from? Jane: I get most of my clothes from Primark and charity shops and up-cycle them although I do have two or three special branded pieces which were gifts from my husband. LE: What inspires your look? Jane: My look is inspired by music, poetry, art, nature, other MUAs, other Goths online and anything that brings me joy (and is black and spooky ha ha). LE: Where can people follow you online? Jane: My Insta is @purplejanew 35

RETAILER FOCUS

BANANAMOON

@londonedge:

Over the last 4 years, LondonEdge has now become an essential show for Banana Moon to visit because it perfectly embodies two values that Banana Moon 1978 has always believed:1) The power of networking and 2) The necessity for market research. Banana Moon say: “In fact, our concept store is one of the reference points in all of southern Italy as far as news is concerned and we are proud to define ourselves as the only store that supports and spreads the hardcore world. A special thanks goes to the Italian model and influencer Ludovica Melisurgo (@_la_lou) who is wearing the New Rock Softy Safari in the photograph so beautifully. Special thanks also to Asap Showroom based in Milan and New Rock Italy.” The Banana Moon website is www.bananabenz.it & they can be discovered on the following platforms www.facebook.com/BananaMoon1978/ & www.instagram.com/bananabenz We’re looking forward to catching up in September at LondonEdge!
