WELCOME TO THE NEW DIGITAL EDITION OF THE LONDON
W
e are delighted to introduce this new digital version of our club magazine. As a club we aim to constantly evolve and grow, creating new ways of connecting with our members, guests and visitors. We hope that this digital edition will make it easier to access the very latest news and events happening at LGC. In this past year we are incredibly proud of how much growth we have experienced as a club and are optimistic about where we are heading as we enter a new decade. In the past 27 years, LGC has built a reputation as one of the finest golfing venues in England, and our history is filled with notable memories. From the very beginning, golfing legends have graced our fairways. Within the pages of this edition, we will honour and celebrate the tenth anniversary of the death of Seve Ballesteros, we have featured an article highlighting his spectacular career. As you may remember, Seve Ballesteros joined course designer Jack Nicklaus and golfing great Tony Jacklin for the opening of LGC in 1994 with the Charity Challenge Skins Match played on the Heritage course. In addition to this, you will find the member events schedule for the year, including a quick look back at the winners of our 2020 board competitions. It goes without saying that we are all looking forward to welcoming back our social events into the calendar this year. Together with this, we are proud to be working on a few exciting new projects such as the introduction of our new Junior Golf Programme, The London Cubs, and the staging of the Cazoo Classic from 12 – 15 August on our Heritage course.

TOUR NEWS LONDON GOLF CLUB WELCOMES THE
CAZOO CLASSIC L
ondon Golf Club will host a European Tour event for the first time since 2014 when the Cazoo Classic marks the fourth and final event of the 2021 UK Swing from August 12-15. The Jack Nicklaus-designed Heritage Course at London Golf Club, a European Tour Destination, will play host to the historic national open for the first time. London Golf Club boasts a rich history of hosting elite professional events, beginning in 2008 with the first of two back-to-back editions of the European Open. Home favourite Ross Fisher emerged victorious in their first hosting of the prestigious tournament, overcoming Sergio Garcia by seven shots. Frenchman Christian Cévaër claimed the 2009 European Open on the Heritage Course, beating a star-studded field which included former World Number Ones Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood.

In 2014, London Golf Club’s International Course hosted the Volvo World Match Play where Finn Mikko Ilonen triumphed over his Scandinavian counterpart, Henrik Stenson of Sweden, in the final on a 3&1 scoreline. The Kent venue has also been a popular stop on the Legends Tour in years past, hosting the 2018 and 2019 editions of the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship – won by Philip Golding and Phillip Price respectively. “We are delighted to be returning to London Golf Club later this year for the Cazoo Classic,” said Keith Pelley, Chief Executive Officer of the European Tour. “We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the club, which was strengthened further when it became our very first European Tour Destination in 2010.
“The Heritage Course is a layout which has proven popular among our players in the past and I am sure it will be no different when we visit in August, marking the fourth and final event of our UK Swing – which will take in events in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.” Stephen Follett, Chief Executive of London Golf Club said: “The entire team at London Golf Club are delighted to be hosting the Cazoo Classic this year on our Heritage Course. "Our courses have played host to many events throughout our club’s history, and we look forward to testing the Heritage against some of the best players in the game. It will be a joy to welcome everyone in August for what will certainly be a great show of championship golf.”

THE PORSCHE TAYCAN
THE FUTURE IS
ELECTRIC The Taycan is the pure expression of a Porsche electric sports car. Striking proportions, timeless and instantly recognisable design, and a perfect blend of performance with everyday usability.

Sporty and sculptured There’s no mistaking Porsche Design DNA at work in the Taycan; the graceful sweep of the Porsche flyline as it slopes away to the rear, the highly sculptured side sections, suggesting a strong, muscular core and the sleek, poised front end, always ready to sprint into action. This is a four-door model that preserves every proportion of its sports car lineage, while leaving room for some stunning flourishes. The air outlets behind the front wheels, for instance, or the flush door handles.
Charged and ready The Taycan features an onboard AC charger capable of 11 kW charging at home. While charging, the battery is always conditioned and ready for your next journey. Intelligent heat management is critical to maintain the optimal performance of the battery. In the Taycan a sophisticated cooling system ensures that the battery is warmed or cooled as required to keep it in its ideal operating window. For even greater efficiency, the standard fit heat pump can use the residual heat from the battery and drive motors to heat the cabin, significantly increasing the range in winter. The Taycan will also precondition its battery when navigating to a high power DC charger, to allow it to accept the highest charge rate possible - under optimal conditions the Taycan with Performance Battery Plus can charge at up to 270 kW, good enough for an additional 62 miles of range (WLTP) in under six minutes.

NEW CLUB CAR FLEET ROLLS INTO ACTION
C
lub Car, the world’s largest manufacturer of small-wheel electric vehicles, has continued its long association with London Golf Club by delivering a new fleet of high-spec golf cars. The fleet of 50 Tempo cars, famous for their industry-leading durability and premium comfort, feature Club Car’s innovative connected GPS technology which supports the maintenance of the club’s two Jack Nicklaus-designed courses as well as offering players a range of in-car services. London Golf Club, a European Tour Destination and the host venue of this summer’s Cazoo Classic, has chosen Club Car as its supplier for 22 years. Stephen Follett, CEO of London Golf Club, said: “We decided to renew the fleet towards the end of last year following the huge amount of use the cars had last summer and with another busy season ahead. We viewed the reopening in March as if we were opening a new venue, and that meant reopening with a new fleet of cars. We also carried out renovations in various areas of our clubhouse, made upgrades in our IT and carried out refresher training with our staff. “We wanted to show our members, guests, and visitors that we are a forward thinking venue that is

committed to continuously investing in our product, services and people. This is our second fleet with the connected technology – we love it, our customers love it and it’s synonymous with London Golf Club.” Kevin Hart, Director of Golf Sales EMEA at Club Car, added: “London Golf Club is one of the most prestigious venues in Europe and we are proud that Club Car has been its chosen supplier for so long. “The club and its leadership are very much in tune with what the customers want and never fail to deliver an exceptional golfing experience. We look forward to this long relationship continuing in future.” London Golf Club has hosted the European Open (2008 and 2009) and the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship (2018 and 2019), and will welcome the Cazoo Classic from August 12-15 this year. The newly installed fleet of Club Car vehicles marks the seventh that local dealer Bradshaw has delivered to London Golf Club over the duration of the 22-year relationship.

LIFE SAVERS Operating out of Redhill Aerodrome and headquartered in Rochester, KSS was the first 24/7 Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in the country. overing Kent, Surrey and Sussex, KSS serves a population of 4.8 million plus those who travel through the area – one of the busiest in the UK. Their missions have saved thousands of lives which is only possible thanks to their amazing supporters.
Service (HEMS) in the country. For 18 hours, during the busiest period of the day, there are two crews available at all times. During the quieter hours between midnight and 6am KSS operates with one crew to ensure they can still respond whenever people need them.
Each year, the charity must raise over £15M to operate its lifesaving service. 88% of this is raised through public donations and fundraising.
In March 2020 KSS became the first HEMS to be rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission in all five of its inspection key lines of enquiry: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. In September 2020 KSS won the Charity Times Charity of the Year Award (income more than £10M).
KSS put people at the heart of everything they do and last year alone, they were called out to help over 2,500 people in lifethreatening conditions. Each mission is attended by a doctor – typically a specialist in anaesthesia or emergency medicine – and a paramedic who is trained in critical care and accustomed to challenging environments. The combination of their specialist skills means patients can be treated with highlevel urgent medical care directly at the scene. KSS, which in 2021 celebrates its 31st year, was the first 24/7 Helicopter Emergency Medical
They never stop innovating and improving the care they can give, which means every donation they receive is vital. Find out more about supporting KSS via their website: www.aakss. org.uk. Please contact 01634 471900 or email hello@aakss.org.uk if you are interested in charity partnerships, business support, sponsorship or business involvement including fundraising events.
“Our two-year-old son was saved by KSS in 2018, after a car had hurtled around the bend behind us and came into the back of our car. "Isaac had been knocked unconscious and I later learnt that he’d suffered a depressed skull fracture. "Thankfully, he doesn’t remember the crash anymore, but he knows how much KSS helped him and understands what the charity does for people. "It’s so emotional when I think back over the past few years. "If it weren’t for fundraisers KSS wouldn’t exist and our son might not be alive today.” You can read Olivia’s full story and find out more about the charity and their life-saving work by visiting www.aakss.org.uk

AROUND THE WORLD IN A
CIRCUIT OF RINGS Havana
26
londongolf.co.uk
In early 1962 Anthony Wainwright, the Chairman of our family business at the time, set out to travel around the world in 16 days, buying diamonds, pearls and precious gemstones. His remarkable journey provides the inspiration for the new Boodles ‘Travel’ collection; a selection of one-of-a kind rings with some of the most extraordinary gemstones we have ever shown.
CLUB PARTNERS
A
nthony Wainwright was the father of our current Chairman, Nicholas Wainwright and his brother Michael, our Managing Director. Fellow Directors James Amos and Jody Wainwright are his grandsons. They all have tales to tell of his story, woven as it is into the DNA of Boodles. What was remarkable about the journey is that in just 16 days he visited a total of 10 cities at various points around the globe, at a time when air travel was limited, infrequent and expensive. Even nowadays it would be quite a challenge. Anthony’s journey has formed the backdrop to the thinking behind this new high jewellery collection, along with our Head Designer Rebecca Hawkins’ own travel inspirations. Excerpts from Anthony Wainwright’s photo album along with Rebecca’s design story are contained within the collection.
" I heard that a wonderful emerald had recently become available and that unique tone of green immediately brought me back to the gardens of Kyoto "
"It was lovely to be able to look back at the places Anthony visited, with a view towards taking them as inspiration for pieces. Some had real personal meaning to me. Japan is a country I love: it’s a place I spent time in on my honeymoon. So, it became a kind of springboard for one design. Anthony went to Kobe and Tokyo, but Kyoto was the place that I remembered most fondly. "When I was thinking about my design for the ring, I heard that a wonderful emerald had recently become available and that unique tone of green immediately brought me back to the gardens of Kyoto. So, it became a case of bringing those ideas together". said Rebecca Hawkins, Boodles Head of Design. londongolf.co.uk

“Trees grow through the ceiling,” wrote Anthony Wainwright below his photograph of a Honolulu hotel. The Hawaii he visited in 1962 was a place of sun, surf and palm trees, then as now. And at the newly built ‘Hawaiian Village’, trees literally grew through the entrance hall ceiling. Those playful palms have formed our inspiration, their leaves rising in gold relief around a vibrant green peridot. This ring is our break from the city: a voyage into a tranquil, palm tree covered world. Anthony Wainwright loved New York. It marked the final point of his world tour. He took time out to photograph the Empire State Building, noting at the time it was “tallest in the world”.

Those sleek art deco, tapering lines – like those of the Chrysler nearby – reflect a law passed in 1916 to allow maximum light to reach the sidewalks. Now they’ve inspired two towering Ashoka cut diamond rings, one at 10 carats and one at a stately 14. It had to be Ashoka of course. New York is where these exceptional stones are cut by our good friends, the Goldberg family. London was both the start and the end of Anthony Wainwright’s trip around the world in 16 days. Tower Bridge is one of its most famous landmarks. Its structure inspired an elegant ring. Bright strands of diamonds swoop beside dark blue enamel, guiding you to a glorious, asscher cut diamond.
Patagonia
And that diamond – at just over two carats– comes from The Cullinan Mine. A mine of magnificent treasures including two of the most remarkable diamonds ever found and now united in the British Crown Jewels, just a stone’s throw away at the Tower of London.

TAKE YOUR JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD AND VIEW OUR RANGES
Pink is our colour – it has been for years. So when we walk in Anthony Wainwright’s footsteps, it’s to be expected that our visit to India will take in Hawa Mahal – Jaipur’s famous pink palace. The pink palace was built in 1799, making it just a year younger than Boodles. At the time, noblewomen observed pardah – the practice of staying veiled from prying eyes. That’s the reason for the palace’s many latticed windows – 953 to be precise. Known as jharokhas, these let the princesses gaze on public life without the perceived risk of jeopardising their modesty. People are far more outgoing today of course. Still, the rose gold band of this beautiful ring (pictured right) lets you peep through its own gleaming arches.

This year brought the tenth anniversary of the death of Seve Ballesteros. SEVE SIMPLY THE BEST AND BETTER THAN ALL THE REST
G
iven Tiger Woods has experienced many troubled times outside the ropes, Seve Ballesteros and Arnold Palmer remain the all-time No 1 golfing heroes of their respective continents. Nobody has more reason to cherish the memories of Seve’s X-Factor charisma created by his swashbuckling golf and dashing good looks as Ken Schofield, who became Executive Director of the PGA European Tour in 1975, when there were 17 Order of Merit events with total purses amounting to £427,917. Such was the vision, energy and determination of this sports loving former bank manager, he retired in 2004 with 96 events on the main tour, Challenge Tour and the Seniors Tour offering £85,339,019 in prize money. As Schofield points out, a lot of the credit was down to Ballesteros. “The biggest compliment that those of us involved in European golf can pay Seve is that he became – and remains – Europe’s Arnold Palmer,” said Schofield. “The impact Seve had was equal to the impact Arnold had on American golf. “Seve ignited the scene on our tour. He drew crowds to tournaments. He pushed up TV ratings. He attracted hundreds of thousands of column inches in newspapers.” The flamboyant Spaniard died on May 7, 2011, following complications of a cancerous
brain tumour at the age of 54. Palmer died from cardiovascular disease on September 25, 2016, living until he was 87. The winner of seven majors, Palmer was also bold and exciting; in his case as much Hollywood star as golfing legend. During my interview about Ballesteros with Schofield, I mentioned that when he won the last of his majors, The Open Championship at Lytham in 1988, my wife and myself watched the Saturday play on television at the home of a fellow club golfer and his wife, both good friends. Every time the impossibly handsome and swashbuckling Seve turned his torso, my friend’s wife squealed so increasingly loudly her husband eventually had to tell her to quieten down to protect our eardrums. Schofield chucked as he said: “With his amazing skill and charisma Seve made golf glamorous and sexy and I would suspect that your friend’s wife was far from alone in shouting for Seve and squealing.” Only one European, Sir Nick Faldo, with six majors, has won more than Seve’s five. Faldo has gone on record as saying Ballesteros was “the greatest show on earth,” or, as Lee Westwood puts it: “Seve made European golf what it is today.” Schofield says: “To talk about Seve is a privilege, he was a golfing genius.” The seeds for his most meaningful legacy londongolf.co.uk

THE BIGGEST COMPLIMENT THAT THOSE OF US INVOLVED IN EUROPEAN GOLF CAN PAY SEVE IS THAT HE BECAME – AND REMAINS – EUROPE’S ARNOLD PALMER KEN SCHOFIELD
were sown in 1980 when Ballesteros became the first European to win the Masters. Something which tends to be overlooked is what happened as a far reaching result of the motivational effect this had on his fellow European players. That triumph at Augusta inspired an about turn in the direction of Ryder Cup supremacy because the mid and late 1980s were the years in which the event became a contest rather than a stroll in the park for the USA. Landslide victories for America were the norm whether they were playing against Great Britain, which is how the Ryder Cup started in 1927, or GB & Ireland or even at first Europe when the geographical spread the team could be drawn from was finalised in time for 1979 and 1981. Leading up to 1983 at Palm Beach Gardens, America had won 11 times out of 12 and had tied the other match. Yet after going down by a single point in a fiercely fought contest, Europe did not lose again until 1991 and the most recent history of the series currently places the golf shoe firmly on the other foot with nine wins out of the last 12 for Europe.
32
londongolf.co.uk
The 1983 Ryder Cup was Tony Jacklin’s first as captain. Ballesteros was the star player and the main supporting cast in Florida was hardly shoddy. Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam completed what became known as The Famous Five, who finished their main tour careers with 16 majors between them. Ballesteros set the tone in creating a fighting unit mentality with the flamboyant Spaniard encouraging an “us against them” attitude which became infectious. He made his teammates believe in themselves. He played Fuzzy Zoeller in the singles, rescuing a spectacular half at the 18th with what USA captain Jack Nicklaus described as “the finest shot I have ever seen.” The ball was lying on a steep upslope beneath the lip of a fairway bunker 245 yards from the green, having arrived there via a bunker. Incredibly, Ballesteros went for the green. Setting his sights on a high fade by aiming at the stem of the L-shaped green, he opened the clubface slightly and smashed the ball out of the bunker making perfect contact.
FEATURE It landed softly and finished within 18 feet of the flag. He chipped and putted from the fringe for a most unlikely half and although the USA won 14 ½ to 13 ½, it was that magic moment which had everyone talking. The Famous Five were all born within 12 months of each other in 1957 and 1958. When Seve won the 1980 Masters that gave the other four the inspiration they needed because until then the South African Gary Player had been the only non American to win at Augusta. Says Schofield: “What Seve showed and demonstrated was that the great Americans could be beaten at their citadel and that gave the others the belief their best golf could be good enough.” In the weeks before Ballesteros was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1999, Nicklaus said. “He invented shots around the green. You don’t find many big hitters like him with that kind of imagination and touch.”
Ballesteros was feisty. He was proud. He was charming. He made people watch . . . and he usually gave them something to remember. Schofield, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame himself in 2013 for his pioneering achievements as an administrator, treasures another magic moment. When Ballesteros won the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth in a play-off against Montgomerie in 1991, Schofield recalls a time he was out of position and weighing up his second shot at the first hole.

“A small boy in the gallery was so nervous he was jingling coins in his pocket, which, of course, is something that should never happen on a golf course. Instead of remonstrating with the boy, Seve spotted him, smiled and said to the little feller ‘You nervous? Me too!”

NEW-LOOK SOUTH COURSE SET TO BE UNVEILED AT
QUINTA DO LAGO 34

Quinta do Lago boasts a combination of worldclass golf and lifestyle facilities including three 18-hole championship golf courses and The Campus, a world-class sports hub designed for professionals and amateurs alike to keep fit.
A
favourite among European Tour professionals, Quinta do Lago’s much-loved South Course will unveil a fresh new look later this year after being given a €7m upgrade to elevate the playing experience and further enhance the Portuguese’s resort’s environmental credentials. The popular Algarve layout – an eight-time host of the Portuguese Open – will reopen this autumn following a major overhaul, the centrepiece of a recent multi-million euro golf investment being undertaken by Europe’s premier luxury golf and lifestyle resort. Regularly ranked among the continent’s top 100 golf courses, the par-72 South Course is regarded as one of
Portugal’s premier golfing venues and the improvements made are set to enhance its reputation even further. As part of the investment, all of the South Course’s fairways, bunkers, tees and green surrounds have been given an upgrade, with subtle changes also being made to a number of holes to enhance the golfing experience. Carried out with sustainable goals in mind and with Quinta do Lago golf course superintendent Mark Tupling and his team working with the Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) Foundation, a state-of-theart irrigation system is also being installed – maximising efficiency and reducing the use of non-renewable resources – while a planting scheme of native species has been adopted to increase biodiversity.

The picturesque Ria Formosa Natural Park Away from the South Course, Quinta do Lago’s other two 18hole championship courses – the North Course and Laranjal – have also undergone significant maintenance improvement programmes in the last year, while the resort has also invested in a new fleet of stateof-the-art electric golf buggies and reopened its main golf clubhouse following extensive refurbishment. Set amongst 2,000 acres of the picturesque Ria Formosa Natural Park and just a 15-minute drive from Faro airport, Quinta do Lago has been at the forefront of Europe’s elite golf, sports and family destinations for nearly five decades. Featuring a combination of world-class golf and lifestyle facilities, it has continually set the benchmark for the continent’s premier modern golf destinations, and the resort is leading the way again as golfers and their families prepare to return post-Covid-19, with the long-term focus on sustainability, mental well-being and the environment. Following an extended period of lockdowns, spending time outdoors and living a healthy 36

lifestyle in an eco-friendly environment has never been more important to people, and the top Portuguese resort has laid the foundations for life after the pandemic by promoting a multi-tiered plan with the emphasis on outdoor living and incorporating three key principles: to foster nature, conserve resources and support the community. Nestling in the heart of the Ria Formosa, Quinta do Lago has always been passionate about the environment – only nine per cent of the resort has been built on with the rest devoted to golf, water and lakes and green spaces. But, aware of the need to move with the times, the resort has adopted an enhanced approach to conservation across all its sectors including at the worldclass sports hub The Campus, its array of bars and restaurants, its hotel and general resort services. Having created its own farm in 2019 to provide its restaurants with homegrown organic produce, Quinta do Lago now places information boards on the golf courses and nearby nature trails advising people of the wildlife living nearby, while
‘bug hotels’ for insects – helping to control garden pests so reducing the use of insecticides – increasing the number of birdnesting boxes and constructing bee houses; and removing singleuse plastics at its restaurants are among the other initiatives to be introduced to help conserve resources. Quinta do Lago boasts a combination of world-class golf and lifestyle facilities including three 18-hole championship golf courses and The Campus, a world-class sports hub designed for professionals and amateurs alike to keep fit. Complementing the sports and leisure amenities is a choice of 12 first-class bars and restaurants that deliver a range of delicious world cuisines, including the acclaimed Bovino Steakhouse and Dano’s Sports Bar & Restaurant, and accommodation at the recentlyacquired boutique The Magnolia Hotel.
Insects also stay in style at the ‘Bug Hotel’

ACADEMY NEWS
LONDON CUBS WILL GROW EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS OF OUR JUNIOR GOLFERS

A
t London Golf Club we are excited to continue developing our Academy and are delighted to introduce a new junior coaching programme to give children the opportunity to gain fantastic golf skills, build social networks, and develop their physical and mental health in a safe environment. Using specific training programmes designed to build skill, strength, and fitness, we will develop our next generation of golfers. Our juniors have been aptly nicknamed the London Cubs as a tribute to the course designer Jack Nicklaus, the Golden Bear. Throughout the school term, each class will focus on the key areas of golf whilst incorporating games or other activities to compliment the learning experience and allow the children to have fun at the same time. Juniors will hone their skills over the course of six school terms and will be rewarded and recognised for their improvement and progress at an end of term awards presentation. Assistant PGA Professional Lewis Matthews, together with Head PGA Professional Paul Stuart, will monitor individual development with the goal of providing each pupil with their own roadmap to becoming a well-rounded golfer. It is our hope that throughout this programme the children will gain invaluable social and sporting skills, whilst at the same time aiding their mental and physical well-being. As the juniors grow in their ability and age, they will be encouraged to join our newly introduced academy membership category, which will allow them to participate within the Kent County teams. This programme will be introduced exclusively to existing members of London Golf Club, giving their children a fantastic opportunity to learn the fundamentals of golf and to eventually play alongside their parents enjoying the many benefits golf has to offer. Following a successful roll-out to membership the LGC Academy will be eager to introduce the programme into the local area surrounding the club. The tuition available at the London Golf Club Academy is outstanding and is provided by our experienced team of PGA Professionals. The team is headed up by Paul Stuart and has a wide range of skill and a proven track record with players at all levels. For more information on the LGC Academy please contact Head PGA Professional Paul Stuart on 07801 926316 or email academy@londongolf.co.uk.

f you’re a style-conscious golfer, you know J.Lindeberg. The Swedish fashion house continues to provide a creative range of traditional designs with a modern influence, and a style recognisable whether you are on the fairway, in the clubhouse or away from the golf club. A little more than 20 years ago, J.Lindeberg burst on the scene, shook up the world of golf fashion and continue to do so. With modern simplicity, style and advanced functionality, J.Lindeberg shape the look for an active contemporary golfer both on and off the course. This season, they raise the bar yet again with the introduction
of three new technologies into their eye-catching and desirable ranges. New collections are in their words ‘the lightest collection in golf, ever’. These technologies take the next big step into the future and further establish J.Lindeberg as the innovative leader in golf fashion. The SS21 collections include polos, mid-layers, golf pants, sleeveless tops, and hats enhanced with refined fabrics — eye-catching explosive colour assortments from lava orange to thyme green, tropical coral, and ocean blue colour palette from the collection.
There is plenty of ventilation with even quicker drying capabilities, keeping you fresh and comfortable. Golf polos feature Gradient Tech, which is a technology exclusive to J.Lindeberg. It provides gradient density, a lightweight bottom that turns progressively denser at the top where it is most needed. Also integrated into the apparel is Active Mesh, which yields a cooling effect with a lightweight feel while offering Featherlight coverage. This contributes mobility and textiles that won’t stick, distributing comfort and 4-way stretch.

The Featherlight golf polos couldn’t be more comfortable, providing an ultra-lightweight feel yet offering coverage. The temperature acclimated golf polo exerts maximum mobility and fabric that won’t cling, providing extreme comfort and 4-way stretch.
The Active Mesh program offers a new type of Performance mesh detailing integrated into performance fabrics to improve airflow and transport moisture. With the addition of 4 way stretch, it provides flexibility in all directions and excellent ventilation for a cooling effect.
The iconic bridge logo continues to inspire golfers both on and off the course, combining sport and fashion.
of J.Lindberg into a marketplace that for years has been flooded with oversized, poor fitting sports brands.
This is clothing that performs and delivers, encouraging golfers to explore their look in style, never compromising on distinct design, sharp silhouettes and bold colours.
It’s a clever and well-executed move by J.Lindeberg to position their clothing in this arena for a wider variety of golfers to enjoy.
J. Lindeberg continues to lead a balance between innovative fashion and sportive minimalism. Every garment is designed to match the JL persona. There is a focus on attainable luxury with high functionality creating a desirable multi-purpose look for the active contemporary lifestyle. Over the years, J.Lindeberg has followed a design styling based on a slim and athletic feel. This was part of a revolution started by Johan Lindeberg in 1996 which saw its progressive looks quickly earn a healthy respect for the traditions of the game while challenging the status quo.
Price points over past years meant the J.Lindeberg brand was mainly explored by the golfer who had more of a passion for fashion and a larger wallet. The introduction of, for example, a £55 ‘Heath’ golf polo, positions this iconic brand and its quality alongside these other sports brands. THE J.LINDEBERG COLLECTION IS AVAILABLE IN THE LGC GOLF SHOP.
THE ICONIC BRIDGE LOGO CONTINUES TO INSPIRE GOLFERS BOTH ON AND OFF THE COURSE, COMBINING SPORT AND FASHION.
The gradual increase of a regular fit to JL sizing options over recent years now sees 80% of their products available in a regular fit. This allows golfers of all ages and sizes to benefit from wearing this iconic brand. Don’t be mistaken by thinking a regular fit JL product will be oversized like a lot of golf polos in pro shops can be. The brand has paid lots of attention to the cut lines and fits of their products. No longer do you need to be 6ft tall and the build of a model to wear J.Lindeberg. Adding to the diameter of mid-layers means they now fit like a layer and not a skin style product while still giving slimming silhouettes and of course that traditional J.Lindeberg look which oozes style and class and inspires confidence. The addition to this season’s collection of selected products - with a lower entry price - further brings the exclusive look, feel, design and quality londongolf.co.uk

TUITION: PUTTING WITH HEAD PROFESSIONAL PAUL STUART
TRY THE CLAW GRIP TO IMPROVE YOUR PUTTING STATS 50
londongolf.co.uk
T
here are many types of putting grips on display around the Worlds various Golf Tours, one of the more popular is “The Claw” grip.
Initially seen as a last resort for players struggling with the flat stick, it is now used by many household names such as Justin Rose who has accredited this style of grip to their improved putting stats. So, how does The Claw Grip work? Should you think of considering switching to it? Two main advantages of using The Claw Grip: 1. Your power hand plays a more passive role within the stroke. 2. The stroke becomes less hands-orientated, more arms and shoulders down-the-line-stroke.
THE SETUP: Adopt your normal setup, remove your right hand, open your right palm (for right-handed golfers). Rotate your hand so that your fingers are on top of the handle, then wedge the grip into the crevice created by your thumb and fore finger – see above.
I FEEL LIKE MY SETUP NOW AND THE WAY I GRIP THE CLUB BY USING THE CLAW, MY STROKE MECHANICS ARE SO MUCH MORE SIMPLE JUSTIN ROSE
This neutralises the right hand as it is almost completely off the club effectively leaving you putting one handed.
THE STROKE: You can then focus on using your arms and shoulders to drive the stroke, using the bigger muscles rather than your hands. It will feel uncomfortable at first but with some practice it will feel more natural and more stable through the strike as you can see in the picture left. You can see how stable the clubface is and how there is no breakdown in the stroke. If you are suffering from a flippy putting stroke, give The Claw Grip a go.
