EDITOR'S LETTER Welcome to a new issue of London Runway - just make sure you don’t drop your copy, as this month we’re looking at all things fragile! What can you expect in this issue? We’ve got some gorgeous editorials as usual, a bumper pack of new faces to meet in our models section, and some creative, unique, and intriguing designs from students as we continue our coverage of Graduate Fashion Week.
You’ll notice, of course, that this is the September Issue - and so we wouldn’t leave you without some galleries from the London Fashion Week catwalks. Make sure to check out the House of iKons runway that we teased for you last month, with all the designers whose profiles you can read if you pick up that issue! Some housekeeping and updates for you: if you’re a model based in the UK, you’ll want to check out our monthly Shoot Days. These are perfect for models to expand their portfolios without having to pay out of the nose,

As I write this editor’s letter, we’re embroiled in yet another flash heatwave - or at least, I hope it’s a flash, because I can’t take much more of these temperatures. As I chat with other Brits in various networking settings, the conversation always turns, quite inevitably, to the weather. One thing we always say is that we’re never happy - wishing for heat in the winter and praying for cooler times in the summer.
I don’t know if that’s quite true, though. We have a time-honoured tradition of jetting off to cheap but hot destinations whenever we want to be baked like lobsters by poolsides, and we’re pretty good at it, as a nation. As far as my opinion goes, that’s where the summer
weather should stay.
Global warming is a serious issue that affects us all, but it’s easy to get into eye-rolling or glib jokes when the subject comes up. We mustn’t forget that fashion is a highly polluting industry, and we who are part of it must do all we can to mitigate that. That means thrifting, making clothes last longer, buying a few well-made statement pieces that will last years rather than hundreds of fast fashion items that fall apart after the first wash, learning how to sew or use a sewing machine so we can make repairs, and shopping sustainable in the first place.
If the hot summer weather makes you wish for cooler times, then maybe try doing your bit when it comes to your wardrobe - we can all of us make a little bit of an impact, adding up to a much larger one. It’s a fragile globe, this planet of ours, and we need to treat it better - in everything we do, starting with the things we love.
