2014 Summer Performance Series We have a very big birthday to celebrate on June 24 when our Open Air Theatre turns 100 years old. Over the past century, thousands of musical, dance, and theater performances have graced the Open Air Theatre stage. Our founder Pierre S. du Pont visited a theatre garden in Siena, Italy, in 1913 and decided to build a larger version. Our Open Air Theatre debuted at the 1914 Garden Party—and thus began our 100-year Performing Arts tradition. Join us as we celebrate our history and showcase the performing arts under the sun. . . and stars.

Guests may reserve a space in the viewing area after 3 pm. For the best viewing experience, guests are encouraged to bring a lightweight folding chair, but blankets are not permitted. Gardens Information Gardens Hours Now–May 24 9 am–6 pm May 25–September 1 Sunday–Thursday, 9 am–6 pm Friday & Saturday, 9 am–10 pm Please note: On June 7 the Gardens close at 2 pm to everyone except Wine & Jazz ticketholders. On May 24, July 4 & 19, August 16 & 30, and September 13 the Gardens close at 6 pm to everyone except Fireworks & Fountains ticketholders. Weather In the event of inclement weather, every effort will be made to start the performance. In the event of postponement or cancellation, ticketbuyers will be notified.
