FRIENDS BRAVE COLD IN KILTS FOR CHARITY YOU might see two men in kilts going about their daily business in Stocksbridge, despite the weather turning cooler in recent weeks. Philip Brailsford and Jay McGregor Haigh have decided to wear kilts throughout the month of November in an attempt to raise funds for causes close to their hearts. Philip lost his wife Christine to cancer five years ago and is raising money for CLIC Sargent – a cancer charity that helps young people suffering from the condition in a number of ways. Jay is doing his fundraising for Ray of Hope - a parent led support group based in the north of Sheffield, supporting families of children with additional needs.

A father of three, Jay’s children have autism and ADHD and so he wants to help the charity as much as he can. Philip told Look Local: “If we did it in the summer it wouldn’t be the same! We decided to wear them in November because it’s cold. “We’ve had a great response so far, I’ve raised over ÂŁ200 so far, Jay about ÂŁ250 and we both hope to raise more. “Christine passed away five years ago, aged 42. It was a very difficult time for me. But then a friend’s son, Charlie Leeks, was diagnosed with a tumour and I just thought how awful it was for a child to have to go through this battle.

“To watch my wife go through it all was awful – to experience losing her. And then I thought about Charlie too and decided to do something. “We decided on kilts because we thought it would be cold in November so it’s more of a challenge. Jay has Scottish roots and we’re both members of the Clan Derby group so we went with the kilts! If you see either of the men out in their kilts, you can make a donation to the charities. Jay has a sponsor form and Philip has a number of ways you can contribute. You can visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/philipbrailsford2 or text hlhr65 and an amount to 70070.

MOUNTAIN RESCUE CALLED OUT TO BIKERS ON SATURDAY November 10, Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 3.09pm, along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, to assist Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with a seriously ill casualty in the Todwick Wood area. The person’s exact location at the time was unknown but as mountain rescue members

were on route, we was informed by YAS that the casualty had been located and their assistance was no longer required. However, before the phone call had ended, the team were informed of an injured mountain biker in Grenoside Woods and all team members were redirected to the new location.

ed chest, back and internal injuries from a high impact crash and after an examination by Edale team leader and doctor, he was given strong pain relief and packaged in a vacuum mattress and casualty bag, transferred onto a stretcher ready for a brisk carry back to the waiting ambulance at the road head.

The mountain biker had sustained suspect-

Anti-slavery group formed in Stocksbridge A GROUP of over 20 people met in Stocksbridge recently to think about the issue of modern slavery. Their interest had been created by the production of the musical ‘Cargo’ a couple of months ago at Christ Church Stocksbridge. They shared their thoughts about the issue after the production, and then went on to consider how slavery impacts on our community today. The group was drawn from all parts of the local community and their ideas

and interests about the issue ranged from seeking better information, learning how to respond, finding out how to shop where slave labour had not produced the goods and a range of other responses. The group agreed to meet a second time to look in detail at four responses to modern slavery. These are: * The concept of declaring some buildings in the area as ‘places of safety’.

* The new phone app which allows drivers to send in to the authorities anonymous data about car-washes where slavery can be a real issue. * The initiative in Penistone to support asylum seekers. * The Clewer initiative set up by the Church of England to combat modern slavery. At that meeting they intend to decide if any of these responses are worth looking at to work on in the area.

Ian Lucraft, the minister at Christ Church said: “It’s very hard for people concerned about modern slavery to know what to do about it. The musical Cargo showed how many years ago it was a few determined individuals who took the trouble to learn what was happening, spoke to their friends and families, enlisted politicians, who eventually managed to change society for ever by making slavery illegal. “Sadly that has not stopped slavery still continuing, but if a few people keep the issue alive, and find ways for us to

respond, then perhaps we can make changes in our own community that will mean that slavery does not happen here.” The next meeting of the group is on Sunday February 17 at 6pm at Christ Church Stocksbridge. More information about the event will be put on the church’s website, www. christchurchonline, org, when it is available.

MUD MADNESS SHEFFIELD 2019 LAUNCHED

Local News

Taking action on gun and knife crime COUNCILLORS at Sheffield City Council heard about the city’s plans to tackle gun and knife crime at their last full Council meeting. John Mothersole, Chief Executive at the council and Detective Superintendent Una Jennings at South Yorkshire Police presented the plans on Wednesday November 7, and members had the opportunity to ask questions. The presentation discussed ‘Fortify hope not harm’ Sheffield’s multi-agency approach to tackling organised crime. Its message is that of all threats in the UK, serious and organised crime affects more people more often than any other type of crime. It highlighted too the facts and figures for all violent crime in the city: • Nationally, the rate of possession of weapons offences has been increasing since 2013 and Sheffield’s rate in the twelve months to 30 June 2018 is similar to the Core Cities average

SHEFFIELD Chamber President, John Hayward, and Sharks’ head coach Atiba Lyons and Mike Tuck were amongst those celebrating the countdown to Mud-Madness Sheffield to be held March 30 2019 at Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre in Chapeltown. Event organisers MLS and the event’s charity partner Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, along with Hesley Wood staff and pupils from Winter Hill School in

Rotherham, waded through the muddy test route and loved it! Every penny raised at Mud Madness will help children and young adults across the region supported by Bluebell Wood, South Yorkshire’s only children’s hospice. The event next March will include a three-kilometre Family Mud Madness for anyone over 11, and a five-kilometre Mud Madness for participants aged 17 and over.

Early bird tickets are available until December 31 at £16.50 for 11 to 16 year olds and £25 for 17 years plus. From January 1 2019, entry fees will be £17.50 for 11 to 16 year olds and £30 for over 17s. To book a place on Mud Madness please visit www.myraceentries.co.uk/mudmadness/EntryForm.aspx

THORNCLIFFE COMMUNITY SPORTS GET LEASE FOR PLAYING FIELDS AFTER four years of negotiation, Sheffield City Council have finally signed over a lease to Thorncliffe Community Sports for the tennis, bowls and multi-use games area of Thorncliffe Playing Fields. Graham Elliott of Thorncliffe Community Sports told Look Local: “This will be the only part of the site that remains in the hands of the local community in that Thorncliffe Community Sports is a charity aiming to promote and preserve good health through community participation in healthy recreation. “It’s been hard work to get this far but now the real work begins. Thorncliffe Community Sports needs to maintain the existing site and set about achieving plans which include new tennis courts and a

pavilion as well as seeking ideas for improving the area between the existing tennis courts and the multi-use games area. “This will require a real community effort and we are looking for volunteers to help with a number of tasks. “For example, we need someone with experience to project manage the development of new tennis courts, a publicity and public relations person who can help us engage with the local community and develop our media links and someone to assist in fund raising.” Anyone interested should contact Graham Elliott on elliott127@icloud.com

and above that of England and Wales. • The rate for ‘hospital admissions assault with a sharp object’ in Sheffield has fluctuated over the past five years, but was lower in 2017/18 than the previous year (data for 2018 is currently only available up to 31 March 2018) • Sheffield’s ‘violence with injury’ rate remains the lowest of the English Core Cities. Overall the figures show that Sheffield is still one of the safest cities to live in across the UK. That said, it still means that there is a lot of work to do to ensure safety in all areas of our city. Working together, the Statutory Community Safety Partnership, led by the police and the council, will be implementing plans, along with other agencies, to reduce and prevent gun and knife crime. This work is informed by research and the successful approaches used in other cities and will bring together the

expertise, knowledge and consistency of action needed for work of this nature. Councillor Jim Steinke, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety and Joint Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, together with the District Commander for Sheffield said: “We’re aware of the issues, we take them very seriously and we will keep working hard to make sure that we keep on track to reduce these types of crimes. “Partners from various agencies including the council, police, youth services and social care will continue to work together to share information and plan joint actions to address the causes of organised crime. “Positive activities and support for young people are to be provided to help them avoid becoming involved in issues relating to organised crime. We recognise the important role that youth and community groups are playing to educate, inform and shape the lives of our young people.”

Hade Edge Brass Band to play Carlecotes church Christmas concert ‘TIS the season to be jolly and the countdown to Christmas has now officially started, as Coca-Cola announces the return of the iconic Christmas truck tour to Fox Valley.

The tour will stop at Fox Valley on Saturday November 17 and Sunday November 18 where there will also be a market, lots of street food stalls, live entertainment and festive fairground rides!

Now in its eighth year, the tour will kick off in Glasgow on November 9 – visiting 14 towns and cities nationwide during the festive season - before making its final stop in London on December 16.

Centre Manager for Fox Valley Laura Robinson said: “We loved having the Coca Cola truck here at Fox Valley last year and to be one of the few locations to have the truck for two days is fantastic!

Bringing festive magic to people across the UK ahead of the big day, the famous truck tour truly signifies the start of Christmas. In a glittering winter wonderland setting, visitors will be able to enjoy a 150ml can of Coca-Cola zero sugar, Diet Coke or Coca-Cola original taste at each stop.

“We really can’t wait, this is such a popular event for our shoppers and we have lots of other festive entertainment planned to kick off the festive season in style!”

Over the last eight years, the ever-popular truck tour has seen thousands of Christmas fans visit the famous vehicle. It has travelled over 737,000 miles – the equivalent of 29 times around the world – twinkling its 8,772 fairy lights and playing the iconic ‘Holidays are Coming’ jingle. This year, as well as celebrating the magic that the Coca-Cola truck brings to Christmas - each truck tour stop will also encourage consumers to recycle their bottles and cans, in line with Coca-Cola’s World Without Waste goal - a global pledge to collect and recycle a bottle or can for each one sold by the year 2030.

Please visit www.foxvalleysheffield.co.uk/ events for details of park and rides and how to get here to enjoy the truck during its time. To find out more about the Coca-Cola Christmas truck tour and see the full schedule, visit coca-cola.co.uk/trucktour2018. Christmas fans can also get involved @CocaCola_GB (Twitter) and @CocaColaEU (Instagram) and join the conversation using #HolidaysAreComing. The team at Fox Valley in north Sheffield are preparing for the centre’s BIG Christmas Lights Switch on this Friday which launches a fantastic weekend of festive fun and entertainment. From 4pm there will be a packed lineup of entertainment on the bandstand as

well as a festive themed market, with the big Christmas lights switch on at 5.30pm, followed by a special fireworks display. The Sheffield Rock Choir will perform at 6pm, followed by the Deepcar Brass Band who will close the annual event which is sponsored by Burrows Mazda Sheffield. There will also be candy cane stilt walkers handing out sweet treats and the stores will be open until 7pm for some late night Christmas shopping! Santa will also be making an appearance thanks to the team from the Wortley Rotary Club. The beautiful Christmas display will be switched on with the help of the centres’ Christmas competition winner. The event sponsors Burrows Mazda Sheffield are supporting Sheffield Children’s Hospital this Christmas. They’ve teamed up with the charity and will be providing children on the wards with Christmas presents and Fox Valley will be a drop off point during Friday’s event.

ST ANNE’S Church in Carlecotes near Penistone will be hosting its hugely popular annual Christmas concert with musical entertainment provided by Hade Edge Brass Band on Saturday December 15, starting at 6.30pm.

Centre Manager at Fox Valley, Laura Robinson, said: “This is definitely our favourite time of year here at Fox Valley, our Christmas display is going to look fantastic and we’re looking forward to launching what will be a fantastic weekend on Friday evening. We have lots of entertainment and a great Christmas Market planned as well as a visit from Santa.”

The award-winning local brass band will play a selection of carols and favourite Christmas tunes. There will be minced pies and mulled wine available and Christmas cake, tea and coffee for refreshment in the interval. Tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £3 for under 16s. As the concert

is usually a sell-out, the organisers are recommending that anyone interested reserves their tickets before the event. All proceeds will go towards the church organ fund at St Anne’s Church. To order tickets, please visit the St Anne’s Church facebook page at www.facebook.com/carlecoteschurch or tickets are available from St Anne’s Church on Sunday mornings from now until December 8 or from Goldthorpe’s Cornmill in Millhouse. For more information visit the website www.carlecoteshall. co.uk.

Your Letters Street signs In the middle of October I noticed that two street signs and been removed from the ground and were badly damaged. These signs were for Coal Pit Lane and Broomfield Lane by the Youth Centre. I reported this to fixmystreet.com where you can report any street issues and these are passed onto the relevant council. I passed these signs a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised to see that new signs were in place and the signs were back in the ground. Why anyone would want to damage street signs in this way is beyond most people’s comprehension. However, it is easy just to pass such incidents and unless someone tells the Council nothing will be done as they are not aware that repairs are needed. I just wanted to bring to everyone’s attention how easy it is to report street problems to fixmystreet. com and I, for one, am very impressed at the Council’s and Amey’s response. Kind regards, Elaine Smith, Deepcar.

Two fantastic local Christmas tree fesitvals

Hillsborough Christmas Fair to benefit charity

ON Sunday November 18, the Burton Street Christmas Market returns to Hillsborough for its ninth bell jingling, bauble dangling year! A wide range of traders will be offering a broad and unique selection of artisan gifts and local crafts. Whether it’s clothing or homewares, artworks or photography, cards or decorations, there will be something on offer for everyone. Festive foodies can tuck into a turkey and stuffing sandwich lathered with cranberry, grab a hearty fes-

tive pie, or simply sit back and relax with a warm and spicy mulled wine. There will be family friendly performances by brass bands, choirs, and other great local festive performers. Kids can get their faces painted, get stuck into loads of Christmas craft workshops and, of course, visit Santa in his grotto. The event is run by volunteers, and all funds raised on the day will be used by Burton Street to improve its facilities.

CHRISTMAS Sat 1st December

“Throughout 2018 we’ve been raising funds to build a specialist hydrotherapy pool for our clients with physical and learning disabilities,” says managing director, Clare Mappin. “So far we’ve raised almost £7,000. The Christmas market is one of the biggest events on the Burton Street calendar. Last year we raised an amazing £2,500, and we’re all hoping for a repeat of that success. “We’ve been working hard to make sure everything is in place for a great day of festive family fun.”

Commemorating centenary of the end of the First World War

Local News Remembrance service in Chapeltown

ECCLESFIELD Parish Council held a Remembrance Day Service at their Memorial Garden on Sussex Road in Chapeltown on Saturday November 10.

AS a commemoration Bradfield Parish Council marked the centenary with the planting of English Oak trees and installation of benches. The trees were placed in Coronation Park, Oughtibridge on November 12 and one in the

Park at Dungworth Green, Dungworth on November 14. A memorial bench has also been placed near each tree and at the picnic area by Smithy Bridge in Low Bradfield. The Parish Council, Members of the Royal British Legion, representatives from local Councils,

City Council, the Peak District National Park and South Yorkshire Police attended the ceremonies in remembrance and respect. Children from local primary schools read out the names of our fallen watched by members of the public.

The event was organised by the Parish Council with the Chapeltown Royal British Legion and Ecclesfield School. Around 100 people attended the service including Parish Councillors, local City Councillors and veterans.

The Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Tony Downing, and Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Garry Weatherall, jointly laid the first wreath. They were followed by wreaths and crosses laid on behalf of the Royal British Legion, Ecclesfield School and others. Revd Rick Stordy read out all the names on the Chapeltown War Memorial as students from Ecclesfield School assisted members of the Royal British Legion in planting remembrance crosses.

This was arranged as a mark of respect for the centenary of the Armistice. It was agreed by all that this was a fitting tribute. Ecclesfield Parish Council have installed a Tommy silhouette in their memorial garden. The silhouettes have been produced by the charity Remembered as part of their ‘There but not There’ project. The Parish Council have a second silhouette and have also had a Perspex figure donated to them. Both are at present in the Council Offices. They

were used as part of the Remembrance and Commemoration exhibition which ran in the Council offices over November 9 and 10. The exhibition was put together by the Archive Project Coordinator assisted by local history volunteers. After the service at the Memorial Garden, people were invited back to the Council Offices for refreshments and to view the exhibition. Over 50 people came to the exhibition.

BRADFIELD PARISH COUNCIL CORONATION PARK, STATION LANE, OUGHTIBRIDGE INVITATION FOR PROPOSALS FOR A COMMERCIAL VENTURE TO PROVIDE REFRESHMENT PROVISION IN THE PARK.

Bradfield Parish Council as owners of Coronation Park Oughtibridge have carried out a public consultation exercise to ascertain the views of residents and visitors as to what facilities they would like to see in the park. One of the main outcomes of the consultation was a requirement for a refreshment provision. Following the consultation the Parish Council sought pre-planning application advice from Sheffield City Council with regard to the possibility of a mobile unit being on site permanently in the park. The response by Sheffield City Council was favourable. However, the Parish Council are open to all ideas for refreshment provision as a commercial venture to be undertaken by a third party. It must be noted that all options will be considered but may be subject to planning constraints and also operating requirements of the Parish Council. Whilst all proposals will be considered no guarantee is given that a proposal will be accepted. Proposals to be submitted in writing either by post or email, details below.

Closing date : Monday 14th January 2019 with proposals being considered at the Council meeting on 30th January 2019. Bradfield Parish Council | Council Offices | Mill Lee Road Low Bradfield | Sheffield | S6 6LB Email: admin@bradfield-yorks-pc.gov.uk Telephone 0114 2851375

NORTH SHEFFIELD REMEMBERS THERE were lots of events of Remembrance in the north of the city over the last week - too many to mention here.

This banner has 51 poppies to represent the 51 men who lost their lives in World War 1 from the village.

However, Look Local would like to share with our readers some photographs that have been sent in from just some of the events.

* WOODHEAD Mountain Rescue Team members paid our respects on Armistice Day at the B-29 Superfortress crash site on Bleaklow.

* THE pupils of Grenoside Community Primary School have been marking the centenary of the ending of World War 1 in a special way. From the beginning of the new school year every pupil has been improving their sewing skills by making a poppy to remember the people who played their part in World War 1 and World War 2 and subsequent wars. All the pupils’ poppies have been put together to make two commemorative banners as a tribute to the fallen of Grenoside. Alongside this the pupils have been learning about the men whose names are on the Grenoside War memorial which each class has visited. On Friday November 9, an assembly was held in which the Y6 pupils recited war poetry and read out every name of those that lost their lives from Grenoside after two minutes silence was held. Following this one of the commemorative banners was presented by head teacher Mrs P Smith to Mr Alan Hooper of the Grenoside Reading Room where it will be displayed.

It was a fantastic turn out with their very own John Halstead controlling proceedings up there. * THERE was a fantastic turnout in Stocksbridge with proceedings centred around the Clock Tower as usual. In church, Mayor of Stocksbridge, Cllr Julie Grocutt, presented Tim Curson of the British Legion with a new standard provided by the Town Council. * HOLY Trinity Thorpe Hesley held a service and there was then a procession up to Flanders Court. Top right: Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team at Bleaklow Middle right: Stocksbridge Town Councillors outside the Town Hall Bottom right: Proceedings unfold in Penistone Below: The Holy Trinity Church in Thorpe Hesley service with poppy cascade Bottom left: One of the poppy decorations created by Grenoside Primary School pupils

MOT’s £35.00 NO BOOKING REQUIRED

Oughtibridge WM Ladies 1 Mansfield Town Ladies 0 THE Remembrance Day women’s fixture down at the War Memorial turned out to be very similar to the Sheffield derby with Oughtibridge completely dominating the 90 minutes but finding away keeper Amy Hood in fine form. The difference in this game was that the WM Ladies did find the back of the net, Lauren Turner

darting through on 41 minutes and smashing home to settle the nerves. Anyone who thought the floodgates would open was mistaken as the second half continued in the same manner with Hood making numerous saves to frustrate the home team.

This gave Mansfield hope of snatching something but the Oughtibridge back line held firm with Katie Denton producing a player of the match performance. Both teams were happy with their performances and represented their clubs impeccably for the commemoration.

Scott smashes Frightful Furty Furlong to win by two minutes PENISTONE Footpath Runner Scott Hinchcliffe produced another fine performance to win the undulating 3.5 mile Frightful Furty Furlong race in Mapplewell. The race is put on by Kingstone Runners and is still a relatively new addition to the running calendar. Results for Penistone runners were: 1, Scott Hinchcliffe 21-46; 5, Hugh Mackie 24-55; 12, Richard Mackie 26-37; 15, Robin Clough 26-52; 31, Tom Fryers 30-34; 32, Shaun Walker 3042; 39, Alan Knox 31-11 (first over-60 man); 47, James Fryers 33-03; 49, Ian Sutcliffe 33-33; 54, Keith Gordon 34-10; 59, Stu Smith 34-54. The latest round of Penistone’s club championship took them to the Lathkil Hotel near Bakewell in the peak district to take on the Leg It Round Lathkil Fell Race.

The race is 7.1 miles long and includes 950 ft of climbing. First man back for Penistone was Gareth Cooke in sixth place, first woman back was Julie Darigala. Results for the Penistone runners were: 6, Gareth Cooke 47-35; 30, Richard Mackie 5233; 31, Lee Storey 53-32; 41, Dan Limb 55-16; 58, Steve Sanders 57-13; 69, Ian Charlesworth 5832; 79, Steve Storey 5946; 89, Richard Docker 60-34; 99, Paul Fryers 61-39; 104, Julie Darigala 62-03; 143, Ashleigh Bowskill 67-17; 144, Kelvin Bowskill 67-18; 150, Pete Stanley 68-06; 168, Nick Whittingham 7051; 173, Luke McGuinness 71-48; 175, Keith Gordon 71-56; 186, Jude Matthews 73-46; 190, Sarah Walch 74-18; 197, Heather Lindley 75-33; 199, Stephen Dommett 75-12; 212, Dawn Godley 76-56; 241, Barbara Haigh 82-05 (first over70 woman).

ANOTHER CUP AND LEAGUE DOUBLE WIN FOR CHURCH IT was two wins in a week again for Penistone Church, progressing past Grimethorpe Sports in a thrilling 4-3 win in the third round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup on Wednesday before a 1-0 defeat of Knaresborough Town on Saturday. Church were losing 1-0 at half time in the Cup, thanks to a Lee Bennett goal on 30 minutes for Grimesthorpe. However, the second half exploded into life with Conor Glavin and Andy Ring putting Church 2-1 up by the 67th minute. A frantic end to the game saw Tony Bennett draw Grimethorpe level but goals from Glavin and Sam Scrivens took the win for Church, despite a late Stephen Bennett penalty for the visitors. Saturday was a big away game as Church took on Knaresborough Town in the league. A Greg Anderson own goal settled the fixture. Manager Ian Richards described the result as “the result of the season so far.”

STEELS DEFEAT TO TOP SIDE

Morpeth Town 2-1 Stocksbridge PS By Dave Rhodes STOCKSBRIDGE Park Steels were looking to build on the three points gained at the last outing against Wisbech Town as they traveled up the A1 to take on the top of the league outfit Morpeth Town. A Morpeth side that is unbeaten this season and only two years ago won the FA Vase at Wembley. Morpeth took the kick off and were straight onto the attack, knocking a long diagonal ball into the Stocksbridge final third. Long diagonal balls became an effective feature of the game accurate and defence splitting. Only four minutes had passed when the home side went ahead, a real blow for Steels so early in the game. This Morpeth side had took the eye with clever, sharp passing and quick tempo movement going forward. A right sided corner was cleared to the edge of the area by Steels but drilled back into the crowded box by Morpeth’s David Carson, the ball speeding through crowded legs for the unsighted Amissah to react too late. One-nil down and the writing was on the wall but Steels rallied well and should take the positives from a good 15 minute spell of possession football against a quality side.

But another lapse at the second ball from a partially cleared Morpeth corner saw Jeff Henderson scuff the ball home on 20 minutes, the ball bouncing hard off the surface and into the roof of the net past a stranded Amissah from 12 yards. It was on 31 minutes when Litchfield missed a great opportunity to score. A long punt upfield from Amissah wasn’t dealt with down the middle, 22 yards out he tried to chip the home goalkeeper who was in no mans land into the open net, only to see his shot go just over. Steels were under the cosh but not out of it as they strived to counter effectively with players piling forward. Certainly the intent was there from a hard working Steels side who were not going to be rolled over but Morpeth were good, bright and inventive and gave Amissah plenty to think about as the half came to a close There was a sending off for Morpeth just before half time when Sam Hodgson lunged two footed into Charlesworth, a straight red with no complaints from the assailant. This had given the Steels men hope that a ten-man Morpeth would struggle to keep up the same levels of intensity and quality. Alas, this wasn’t to be as the home side continued to dominate possession with great interchanging play across the pitch. A pleasure to watch as the

confident league leaders were here, there and everywhere, created chance after chance with Steels last gasp defending a key aspect. To a man the Steels boys should be proud of the effort, the work rate, the team spirit and attitude against a side that to one of the best sides to play at this level. They were tenacious, intelligent, comfortable all around the pitch and pacy where it mattered. Steels just couldn’t find a way of unlocking an organised and resilient Morpeth team. Steels created half chances though and Coleman’s free kick nearly surprised Pickering the home keeper. It was the Steels substitutes that made an immediate impact on 85 minutes when Williams had fed Mangham 18 yards out, Mangham expertly took the ball into his stride and going past a defender placed the ball coolly past the on rushing Pickering into the corner of the net. Steels were back in it and deservedly so but just a little too late in the day as Morpeth took the heat out of the game and managed, slow timed the last five minutes well giving Steels no opportunities at all to gain any momentum. Next up its Pickering Town at Look Local Stadium on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
