NORTH SHEFFIELD REMEMBERS THERE were lots of events of Remembrance in the north of the city over the last week - too many to mention here.
This banner has 51 poppies to represent the 51 men who lost their lives in World War 1 from the village.
However, Look Local would like to share with our readers some photographs that have been sent in from just some of the events.
* WOODHEAD Mountain Rescue Team members paid our respects on Armistice Day at the B-29 Superfortress crash site on Bleaklow.
* THE pupils of Grenoside Community Primary School have been marking the centenary of the ending of World War 1 in a special way. From the beginning of the new school year every pupil has been improving their sewing skills by making a poppy to remember the people who played their part in World War 1 and World War 2 and subsequent wars. All the pupils’ poppies have been put together to make two commemorative banners as a tribute to the fallen of Grenoside. Alongside this the pupils have been learning about the men whose names are on the Grenoside War memorial which each class has visited. On Friday November 9, an assembly was held in which the Y6 pupils recited war poetry and read out every name of those that lost their lives from Grenoside after two minutes silence was held. Following this one of the commemorative banners was presented by head teacher Mrs P Smith to Mr Alan Hooper of the Grenoside Reading Room where it will be displayed.
It was a fantastic turn out with their very own John Halstead controlling proceedings up there. * THERE was a fantastic turnout in Stocksbridge with proceedings centred around the Clock Tower as usual. In church, Mayor of Stocksbridge, Cllr Julie Grocutt, presented Tim Curson of the British Legion with a new standard provided by the Town Council. * HOLY Trinity Thorpe Hesley held a service and there was then a procession up to Flanders Court.
