UNIVERSITY Campus Barnsley Travel and Tourism and Acting for Touring Theatre students successfully launched a living history event to remember the end of World War One. The Home from the Front event at Elsecar Heritage Centre provided an authentic recreation of the demobilisation of troops by using a steam locomotive No.813, built in 1904 in Leeds, and Great North of Scotland No.34, a six-wheel railway carriage. Acting for Touring Theatre students played the role

of troops, nurses and others at the front line who made the journey back to their homes around the UK between 1918 and 1920. Oliver Edwards, a Travel and Tourism student and Co-Organiser of the event, said: “The event has helped strengthen relationships between students and the wider community. We are grateful to all our partners for their help in making this event a success. It has definitely provided me with experience I can use in the future.”

They really got into their roles and gave the public a realistic experience of life during World War One. Each student played their part in helping achieve the aims and objectives of the event, making it a huge success.” To find out more about University Campus Barnsley and our courses call 01226 216 165, visit universitycampus.barnsley. ac.uk or email info@barnsley. ac.uk.
