Steels enjoy home win Steels with their league safety guaranteed after a recent upturn in form recorded an excellent 3-0 victory over Lincoln United on Saturday in sweltering conditions at the look local stadium.
After being asked to bat, signs were ominous as Oughtibridge lost their first two wickets for just two runs. But a good recovery from newcomers Ashkay Gupta and Ben Ladd Gibbon took the score to 73 before Darfield again made further inroads, taking a further three quick wickets. Oughtibridge could easily have wilted under the Darfield pressure, but instead they dug in and as the innings drew to a close began to flourish. This was largely down to a superb 67 from Hedar Rasool and a wonderful cameo from Connor Snelgrove, who cracked 47 off 40 balls to give Oughtibridge a competitive, though not insurmountable score of 229 from their 50 overs.

In response Oughtibridge managed to maintain pressure on the Darfield batting line up from the very first over. Resistance was provided from Luke Aitken who smacked six fours and four sixes in a brutal 62, the game could easily have gone away from the home team. It took a stunning one handed catch from Hamza Ilyas to finally end Aitken’s assault and Oughtibridge closed out the game, finally bowling Darfield out for 176, with Matt Scholey ending with figures of 6-63.

The Stocksbridge openers got them off to an excellent start, before the dangerous Jack Newton was removed for 27. Matt Price (36) continued to go about his work with the help of Dave Smith (25) as the top order laid the foundations for what would hopefully be a respectable total. Price and Smith both fell at similar times leaving Stocksbridge at 95-4. This brought Liam Grayson and Joe Hibbert to the crease who put together a excellent partnership of 80 to help see Stocksbridge set an above par total. Grayson fell for 34 looking to increase the run rate and the lower order came and went in an attempt to score quick runs. Joe Hibbert top scored however was bowled last ball of the innings for a well made 40 leaving Stocksbridge 189-8 off 40 overs meaning De La Salle required 190 to win. In reply the De La Salle innings never really got going, Joe Hibbert bowled with pace and aggression and picked up two quick wickets, including the dangerous Cull who inflicted pain on the Stocksbridge bowlers last season.
