Cash boost for Penistone?
PARAMOUNT COULD BOAST THREE SCREENS AND NEW BAR
PENISTONE Paramount is the focus of a regeneration project that could see the historic cinema receive substantial investment.
In plans that Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council are to consider, major investment in the cinema would result in a second screen being installed, along with an outdoor auditorium area, which could be used as a third screen or as a space to host events.
Elsewhere in Penistone, the market barn could also benefit with improved stalls and a course of weather-proofing, making the market more suitable for use in the winter months.
Storage for bicycles are also earmarked and Penistone has been recognised as having tourism potential following the successful hosting of the Tour de Yorkshire events in recent times.
Costs have yet to be finalised but it is thought that the injection would be significantly more than the £500,000 figure previously mentioned.
Built as the Assembly Hall for Penistone in 1914, the Penistone Paramount celebrated its centenary year in November 2014.
It is currently a single screen 350-seat cinema, although it also boasts a large stage with plenty of live events being offered.
The new plans would keep Penistone Town Council’s chamber intact but a new bar and screen would be installed in the building.
