Another successful carnival day in Stannington

THE weather stayed dry and warm, people turned up in droves and Stannington celebrated another happy, colourful, musicfilled carnival day.

After a parade led by Sheffield Sea Cadets Band, Stannington Players in pantomime costumes declared the day open, and typified the carnival’s theme, ‘Once upon a time’.

What followed was a programme filled with performance, spectacle and fun. School choirs from Bradfield Dungworth and Stannington Infants and performances by local dance schools put the spotlight on young performers.

Stannington’s award winning brass band set the musical tone, again providing a stage for young people through its training band.

A highlight of the day was Adora Bubble. In her fairy costume, she created clouds of soap bubbles floating in the air which children, and plenty of grown-ups too, chased and burst. It was all great fun.

The only people let down on the day were Sheffield Kite Fliers. They brought their power kites, intending to put on a display of flying, but the wind refused to blow.

Chair of the organisers, Jenny van Tinteren, said: “I think we can congratulate ourselves on another successful carnival. The final count is still in progress, but we are confident we will soon be announcing that another excellent amount of money has been raised this year to donate to all the local organisations and good causes that Stannington Carnival supports.”
