SURVEY RESULTS RELEASED BY ROAD SAFETY GROUP A CAMPAIGN group set up to fight for greater road safety in Oughtibridge has released the results of a survey of local residents which found villagers were not happy with the plans outlined by Sheffield City Council. The Oughtibridge Road Safety Action Group (ORSAG) delivered a leaflet across the village asking for comments from residents on the council’s plans to make the accident-plagued junction at Orchard Street, Station Lane and Bridge Hill safer. The group has now revealed that leaflets returned show 75% of those that responded came down against the council’s plans, part of which is to close Bridge Hill to through traffic. The leaflet that went out to villagers not only wanted views on the council’s proposals but also outlined ORSAG’s ideas on what should be done, which include imposing reduced speed limits and new road signage.

THE PROBLEM JUNCTION IN OUGHTIBRIDGE

Residents were encouraged to let the action group know what they wanted to see changed to make the village much safer from passing traffic. Group chair Gary Chamberlain said: “At a council consultation regarding its proposal to change the road system in Oughtibridge it was clear that many local residents were in disagreement with the council proposal and ORSAG was formed to come up with a solution that would deal with safety concerns and be considerate to residents and businesses. “We are now looking at what local residents have told us to see if any new ideas can be implemented to ensure our proposal can help eliminate accidents happening at the junction. We would like to thank all that have taken their time in registering a vote and given feedback.” ORSAG recognises that it is not only Oughtibridge residents who use the roads and is still happy to receive comments through oughtibridgeroads@gmail.com.
