rod tempo and action curve – a brief explanation To describe our rods we use two variables, rod tempo and action curve.
The rod tempo describes how fast and stiff a rod is: •

M=Medium. A rod with a medium tempo is perceived as softer and more relaxed in tempo when compared to MF and F. MF=Medium Fast. A rod with a medium fast tempo is a bit more moderate in stiffness and tempo. F=Fast. A rod with a fast tempo is perceived as fast and stiff in relation to M and MF
The action curve describes how the rod bends when loaded: • • •
FC=Full Curve. Rods with this curve have a long and deep action curve. ”Full Action Curve”. MC=Mid Curve. Rods with a medium action curve. ”Medium Action Curve”. TC=Tip Curve. Rods with hthis curve have a high action angle in the tip. ”Tip Action Curve”.

If we have three rods with the same stiffness value but with three different action curves, the rod with a TC curve will be perceived as faster than the other two. When we put together these two values (rod tempo and action curve) to describe a rod we also sometimes add either a minus- or a plus-sign. This is due to variations in stiffness between rods within the same rod tempo interval.
Let’s say you are looking for a 5-weight 9 foot rod: Yellow Line 590-3 / M/ FC The M means that the rod have a moderate or medium tempo, nearly in the middle of the range. FC indicates that the rod have a long and deep action curve – Full Action Curve. A smooth and comfortable rod that loads easily. Multi 590- 4 / M+/ MC M+ inidcates that the rod have a moderate or medium tempo that i closer to the next step in tempo, which is MF. The action curve is MC, meaning it has a Medium Action Curve. This rod will be perceived as fairly soft but since the actioncurve is steeper than the previous Yellow Line rod it sums up to be faster. Evotec 590-3 / MF/ MC MF means that the rod have a medium fast tempo roughly in the middle of the range. The action curve is MC meaning it have a medium action curve. A rod that many will preceive as very moderate with medium values straight through but in relation to the previous rod, Multi 590-4, it is somewhat faster in tempo with nearly the same curve. Multi PWR 590-3 MF+/ MC MF+ indicates a medium tempo just below the next step in tempo, which is F. The action curve is MC i.e. a medium action curve. The rod will be perceived as relatively fast, for some it can feel a bit stiff and in comparison with the previous rod, Evotec 590-3, this is one notch faster while bending roughly the same way. A rod with power but not as stiff as the stiffest ones. Evotec 590-3 / F/ TC F means that the rod have a fast tempo roughly in the middle of the range. With a TC action curve it has a ”tippish” action curve – Tip Action Curve. This is a rod that, by many, feels relatively stiff and fast. If we compare it to the other four it is the stiffest and fastest rod and if you use the same line and casting tempo as when you cast with the Yellow Line not much will happen with a rod like this. For this rod to bend you need speed when casting. Rods with these values are not particularly suited for ”gentle fishing”. This is a rod for those who can and like to cast longer than their buddys.

These rods work equally well with short heads (typical for Underhand and Skagit casting) or longer spey lines. The tip recovery is extremely precise and the butt power never gives up. The models feature our new patended Balanced reel seat, which is 50 % longer than traditional reel seats and allows the angler to choose position of the reel, balancing the rod against the weight of the line and the casting technique.

The idea behind the Adapted line is to simplify the fishing, make it more efficient and thus more fun. The extensive line system covers nearly all depths of fishing. By using an ordinary running line for underhand casting or the new, tapered Spey running line for speycasting, the Adapted system also comes forward as the only system designed for different casting styles, or rather different fishing situations. A new low-stretch core gives you better casting and hooking capabilities. To make the worlds most variable double-hand line system even more variable we have added longer tip sections – Spey fronts. This will make it possible to make the head + front approximately 1,5 meters longer. With the different fronts – short or long – heads can be mixed through different AFTM scales to be suited exactly for the fishing needs. All lines come looped and ready to fish.
