las buitreras fishin g lodge

After this season I think it’s clearer than ever before. If possible, use single-hand rods and keep wading to a minimum. The fish are there, but splashing a long twohand line on the surface nearly guarantees they will not bite. This is as technical as it gets, but at the same time quite easy! The cast does not need to be so long, only quiet and controlled. Keep contact with the fly and move the fly, wade as little as possible and it will happen! We have been very spoiled using only certain sections of our available water. Tomas Ögren and I spent a week fishing new areas from both sides of the river with great success. There’s still a lot of water to be discovered under varying conditions. How many world class stretches of fishing can say that? The season was exciting with all the big fish and as always the lodge functioned perfectly under the supervision of camp manager Claudio Martin.

in length and has its origin in the Southern Andes with two pristine and very beautiful streams, the Penitente and the Ruebens. Winding its way through the wild Patagonian landscape it emerges into the surprisingly mountainous area that encompasses the unique Las Buitreras beats, some 40kms from the river mouth. The flood plain that lies between these outcrops teems with birdlife, alongside large numbers of rheas, silver foxes, horses, hares, flamingos and guanacos. A trip to Rio Gallegos River offers the adventurous angler the opportunity to pit his skills against the explosive sea running trouts of Patagonia. These fish can reach sizes of 25lbs and over and will reward the angler with arm wrenching takes and blistering runs, interspersed with regular acrobatic displays. Loop’s Las Buitreras lodge is home to the most prolific beats on the Rio Gallegos, consisting of over 40kms of both sides private water comprising over 50 named pools. The fishing is exciting and varied with pools ranging from deep stony runs to cut banks and streamy shingle flats. Relatively shallow, the river makes for easy wading, obviating the need for fast sinking lines and creating an exciting and challenging fishing environment. It is this variety in combination with the visually inspiring mountainous outcrops that makes this part of the Rio Gallegos quite simply one of the most spectacular stretches of fly fishing water in Patagonia. Sometimes explosive, always challenging, fishing for sea trout requires a level of skill, stealth and understanding that can frustrate

The lake is nothing else than a biological sensation and contains millions upon millions of fresh water shrimp (krill, scuds). The fish grow to huge sizes eating only the protein-enriched shrimps all year around. This is simply the most Omega-3 fat fish you have ever seen. Yes, it’s possible to eat and taste during the stay. We have also seen that the rainbows are making their way into the small stream (the only stream in the lake) to spawn nearly all months of the year, as long as the river has water. All we can gather is that the vast numbers of rainbows has created its own ecological system and its unending food source has pushed these fish to year-around-spawners , depending on water level in the small stream that feeds the lake by the Loop River camp. Arriving at Jurassic Lake you will quickly realize just how far removed you are from the real world, as the shear vastness of this secluded country is beyond belief. The large lake is roughly 20 km by 15km, situated approx. 1000m over sea level, and looks more like a saltwater body of water with its crystal clear blue water and channels, corals and shelves. Our first exploratory trip had us casting into this huge body of water with little to no expectations. After being broke off a half dozen times we quickly realized there was something strange going on here. These huge fish are much, much more then just abnormally large, as they are pound for pound one of the strongest fish we have ever seen. The blood curdling runs are only interrupted by jumps that often involve leaps far above your head. Do not put your hands anywhere near your reel handle, as you will surely risk loosing some skin or even break a finger.

from Las Buitreras and the flight back to Buenos Aires will be from Calafate which takes approximately 7 hrs from the camp. The drive is through the wildest stretches of Patagonia and offers many chances to see and take photos of all wild animals and beautiful nature, and with a bit of luck you might even see a wild puma. But be

You will require to book the internal flight from Buenos Aires domestic airport to Rio Gallegos city flying with Aerolineas Argentinas. (Please note that it takes approx 50min to transfer between the international and domestic airports in Buenos Aires.) The outbound flight departs on Saturday at 1520 hrs and depart Rio Gallegos airport at 1125 hrs. The flight time is normally 3 hours however occasionally the flight diverts over Ushuaia, the worlds most southern city, which takes an additional 2 hours. It is therefore strongly advised that your international flight is booked on Sunday, thereby allowing for any complications which might arise. Please check your flight schedule with Pia Mosso. We recommend you arrive in Buenos Aires at Friday and if the international home flight is later than 20.30 Saturday evening it is possible to make the international home flight same day. On arrival at Rio Gallegos you will be met by Las Buitreras staff and transported by 4x4 or mini bus to the lodge. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes.

The price of your hotel room is not included in the travel service package however we will book you into our preferred hotel, Hotel NH Florida on San Martin Av, unless you inform us otherwise. Be careful of personal possessions particularly expensive watches and cameras and remain alert to your surroundings. Good restaurant – Las Lilas, book table at reception!

Please ensure your baggage carries the contact details of our Argentinean Operations officer: Gabriel Tournour San Martin 923 Rio Gallegos, Argentina Ph: +54-2966 420 368 E-mail: gabriel@looptackle.se This will ensure that lost baggage can be redirected to us.

Pack light, warm and windproof clothing. Most of the fishing occurs in the Argentine summer, but at parallel 53 south, the days can be chilly, particularly when the wind blows! Those visiting us in the late season can count on cold mornings and evenings. Windbloc and Windstopper fleece products are very good and when combined with breathable waders and jacket, offer superior protection that will keep you warm and comfortable all day. Prepare to dress in layers. The sun is intense because the ozone layer is thin in this part of the world and you may encounter very warm weather as well. Tropical flats clothing in neutral colors can be worn to advantage under warmer outer layers. Remember your sunscreen and polarized sunglasses!

Argentina is a wonderful country and we are often asked for additional programmes to enhance our guests’experience. Aside of the Jurassic Lake add on to Buitreras program, we have also the following recommendations: Everyone that has visited Las Buitreras knows that our former Lodge Manager Martina McNamara is one of the people that has made Buitreras the magic place it is. Martina is also a teacher in the University for Wild Life Management and we know that nobody will take care of you better than Martina. Programs can be customized to guests, why not non fishing guests in Buitreras, specifications and for example could include: Monte Leon National Park, Los Glacieres National Park, Stag River and more. For more information and booking, contact Gabriel Tournour. E-mail: gabriel@looptackle.se

around 10 lb, with the biggest landed so far at 120cm long. We have seen, and lost, even bigger ones. Is there any other place like Loop Jurassic River Camp in the world? We don´ t think so! We don’t count fish at Jurassic Lake, as it is not important, but let us at least say there is enough fish to keep you busy the whole day. For those who love a real challenge there is some great shallow water sight fishing to be had along the shorelines. It is not uncommon to see pods of giant fish cruising the edges in search of food that tries to escape. It is also fun to take a smaller rod up the creek, for some dry fly fishing, mainly in Nov-mid Jan.

to be the most effective thus far, with Photo: Tim Pask / black, purple, red, white and yellow all working fine. The real secret is to have several different patterns and a lot of each. Use strong hooks only. Bring along some scud patterns for sight fishing and an assortment of dry flies and nymphs as well. We have also, when weather permits, used 9’ # 5 rods with floating lines, dries and nymphs with big success. Real fun, not easy to land them though. Whatever fly or line used – the key is to fish the fly slow, real slow, since these fish are not used to chase the food. Their eating behavior is more like swimming with mouth open zipping in the food. For the lake a are the tools of choice. Loop Opti Coast rod with hi-dense core (handles the wind better) Loop Multi lines is a safe setup. A high quality reel with a good drag system is highly recommended and your reels should have at least 100 yards of backing on them. We recommend, of course, Evotec G4, Multi or Opti Runner reels. If you like the sound of screaming reels Loop Classic is a good choice. All these reels will handle the tough sand winds and water since they are properly sealed and have hi-quality bearings and shafts. Floating, intermediate and sinking

of chefs, camp managers and guides. They will show and give advices on the fishing but fishing will mainly be done without a guide on your side all the time. Fishing is so obvious so it is not needed. They will cook, clean the camp and help out with anything needed. It is hard work in the middle of nowhere so we hope all can accept this.

Loop Tackle will have some fishing gear suitable for fishing the lake and stream available at the camps and can be used by our guests if they like. There will not be a tackle shop available, but we will have some extra waders, jackets, leaders, flies and some tippet material available.

This is the spawning season and normally the river has sufficient water and is virtually full of fish with a mix of colored fish and fresh silver from the lake. There is huge traffic in the bay outside the camp; here also is a mix of colored fish and fresh torpedoes. This period it is possible to catch more wild and bigger rainbows than anywhere else on the planet. 50 fish in a day is normal with records well above 50 fish per day. If you think it is too many you just walk 100 meters to next bay where you can sight fish for the odd big bright specimens, this goes for the whole lake, and maybe catch 5-10 fish in a good day. This period is colder with the bay full of fish yet again. During this period they are fatter and most are chrome trains that will empty your reel – fast! This period can be a bit cold but fantastic! This is high summer and after 4 seasons we can now see the pattern with fish mainly cruising around out in the lake. If the wind presses colder water to the bay there can be some fantastic evening and mornings. This period is definitely slower compared to Jurassic River normal standards, but if compared with other wild rainbow fisheries it is still hard Full Full week Full week to beat. week

and furnished it with traditional campo style antiques. The living is comfortable and clean. There are 5 double rooms, 2 single rooms and a new annex with indoor barbeque and an extra room with 3 beds. In addition to the structural renovation, the entire heating, water, electrical and gas systems have been replaced. There is a wine cellar with a fantastic selection from the Mendoza and San Juan regions. It is also stocked with Cerveza Isenbeck, an outstanding local beer. Outside, there is a huge veranda, a spacious courtyard that is protected from the wind, and a large, fixed stone grill and terrace for barbeques. House wine and beer is included in the lodge rate but we do keep a wide selection of local wines not often available elsewhere and guests are welcome to purchase these at a very reasonable rate. No smoking inside the lodge.

A diesel generator supplies the electricity in Buitreras and the power is 220 volt. The receptacles will accept common European plugs. The generator normally runs between 06.30 and 23.30. We have auxiliary battery power and there are 12-volt outlets in your rooms with lights that will function in the absence of generator power. Additionally, there are gas lamps here in the living/dining area and also upstairs in the hallway. These lamps can be used to advantage during late-night festivities! Water is supplied from a windmill at the top of the hill and though there are no limits for guests, we ask that they use it conscientiously. There are three very large thermo tanks supplying hot water and it is normally always available. There is a new telephone with Internet access in the lodge. During our season, continental Europe and Scandinavia are +4 hours and Great Britain is +3 hours. The USA is anywhere between -2 and -5 hours. NB: Telephone works when generator is on only. Hours for this and new number will be available before season.

Small nymphs are also used regularly when the trout become very selective. Doubles are fine, but please leave the trebles at home. Most of the fishing requires you to strip the fly. When the water is stirred up by the wind or colored from rain, tubes and larger flies work very well. In turbid water conditions, we like bulky flies that push the water. Tubes tied in the Temple Dog style on plastic and/or brass in all colors and sizes are good to have along. There are a few pools where seatrout can be taken by simply swinging the fly as one would for Atlantic Salmon, but generally speaking, these fish don’t favor the same type of lies as salmon do. The lodge I can only describe as fabulous along with the food they ser ved there. The accommodation was first class bearing in mind we were in the middle of nowhere. Then there was the fishing. What can one say after being lucky enough to catch not one fish of a lifetime but two. I nev er thought for a moment that I wou ld actually catch a 19 and 21 lb sea trou t. There was so much to love about the fishing not just the fish themselves but the scenery and wildlife amongst which you fished for these magnificent creatures . Then lastly there were the Guides .These men were absolutely fantastic and ably led by Claudio. Their enthusiasm and genuine love of fishing was infectious, and would do everything within their power to help make this a truly unique experience. I believe that more people should experience this adventure to a truly wild and windswept part of Argentina. Mike Humphries

Overlooking the scenic Chimehuin River, Chime Lodge (pronounced Chee-may) is ideally located with excellent access to the greatest diversity of trout water in Northern Patagonia. Right from our doorstep we access the trophy trout Chimehuin River, and we are not more than 45 minutes away from miles and miles of trout rich waters including the Malleo, Collon Cura and Alumine Rivers plus the large trout- producing Tromen, Epulafquen, Huechulafquen, Curruhe and Verde Lakes. These are the waters that put Patagonia on the fly fishing map of the world. Each river or lake has its own character, and it is right here where you can catch the trout of a lifetime. Brown, rainbow, brook trout and landlocked salmon thrive in our waters and readily take flies. To top off your day you will be welcomed home by the family-style atmosphere of the lodge and treated to excellent cooking, washed down with Argentina's renowned wines.

The fabled Chimehuin River is the most famous of all Patagonian rivers and home of endless stories of the monster trout that live in its productive waters. The Chimehuin is born on Lake Huechulafquen and flows for 40 trout rich kilometers until it meets Collon Cura River. The Chimehuin, also referred as begun.

the Cathedral of Patagonia Fly fishing

Made famous by Joe Brooks and other fly fishing gods during the fishing maps of the world.

60

is the place where fly fishing in Patagonia s, the Chimehuin put Patagonia on the fly

The mythical mouth or Boca gather fishermen from all around the world to catch the gigantic trout that every year migrates from the lake to the river to spawn. The Chimehuin is very productive with all fly fishing techniques be it dry, nymph or streamer and every corner may give you the fish of a lifetime. We can float right from the Lodge or drive and wade the many productive pools the Chimehuin has to offer.

About 20 km from Chime Lodge you ll reach the mid reaches of the Malleo River. Regarded as one of the top 5 rivers in Patagonia, the Malleo is born on the very productive Lake Tromen on the northern foothills of Lanin Volcano. The upper parts of this river are not easy o fish due to heavily dense vegetation and steep gradient. Although difficult to fish and moody, this upper part is home of some large resident fish and migratory rainbow and brown trout.

We will concentrate on the lower reaches until its confluence with the Alumine River; on the Mapuche Indian Reservation; where it is easily waded, has abundant hatches throughout the season and holds large numbers of rainbow and brown trout. It is a dry fly paradise! You can fish all day long different pools and runs sight fishing for the largest trout of the pod. It is also a river that will reward the streamer fishermen with large brown trout, especially during low light conditions.

The super productive Collon Cura River is born from the union of the Chimehuin and Catan Lil Rivers and flows for about 70 km until it reaches the Piedra del Aguila Reservoir.

Besides the undisputed quality of the fishing, this is the place where its possible to see the unique wildlife from Patagonia. Just look up and you ll see condors, eagles, ducks, falcons and raptors. Look to the banks and you may spot red deer, red and grey foxes, guanacos, rheas, otters and more. Due to the proximity to the reservoir, it s a great river to Spey cast large streamers in search of large migratory brown trout (landlocked version of Rio Grande s sea run browns), especially early and late in the season. For the angler who s done it all and wants to catch that extra fish there are Percas and Pejerrey Patagonico in abundance, especially during warm summer days.

The Alumine river is born in the homonymous lake and flows for 160 trout infested waters until it meets the Catan Lil River and forms the Collon Cura. The most productive stretch is downstream from Pilo Lil all the way to Catan Lil. This is the place most guides call the fish factory were large concentration of trout feed on well marked lanes or below the ever present willows that cover its banks. It is not uncommon to hook 50 + fish on a day s float, with impressive average size fish that will attack a well placed dry fly. Even though you may fish dries and nymphs all day long for 18 fish, swinging a streamer deep into some pools may give you some trout measured in lbs not inches. Hook in and hang on! This is also the place where you will hook and land our native fish called Perca. The stretch from Pilo Lil to its confluence with the Malleo is the place we choose for our multi day float trip.

When the Meliquina and Filo Hua Hum rivers merge they create the Caleufu River which flows for 40 miles before draining on the Collon Cura River (now Alicura Reservoir). It is floatable from opening day until early January depending on snowmelt and rains. It is an excellent river for streamers (early season) to dry flies and nymphs. Ask your guide when the "minnow hatch" occurs for some epic fishing in the lower reaches.

During certain times of the season we may choose to fish other streams. There are many tributaries (Quilquihue, Curruhue, and Quemquemtreu just to name a few) to the previously mentioned rivers that fish really well at one point or another. These smaller streams are an excellent choice for the wading angler who wants to fish light line rods (1 to 4 wt) for lots of hungry small to medium sized trout or landlocked salmon. Bamboo rod aficionados will find in these streams their wildest dreams. If small water is what you want these are the streams of your dreams.

BIENVENIDOS You will soon be on your way to Argentina, changing seasons in a single day of travel from winter in the United States to summer in South America. There is far more than warm weather awaiting you in Patagonia. You will fish some of the world s best trout streams: the Chimehuin, Malleo, Collon Cura, Alumine and others. And you will be in the very capable hands of our experienced lodge staff and fishing guides. The lodge is located on the banks of the Chimehuin River , near the famous Boca or mouth of the river where it drains from Lake Huechulafquen. Chimehuin means land of the Chime (pronounced Chee-may ), who according to legend are spirits or creatures who protect the river and the region. Chime Lodge has embraced this spirit in its vision for conservation in Patagonia. We also sponsor education for our neighbors through our Mapuche guide school.

Once your arrive, the ever-present and spectacular natural beauty, including the rivers, the lagoons, the sky, the forests, the wild flowers and the prairies will overwhelm your senses. There s abundant wildlife too, and you may see Condors, Guanacos, Rheas, ducks, storks, chajas, parrots and wild geese - just to name a few of the species. You will be wined and dined in the Argentine style, enjoying the famous homegrown beef, flavorful fruits and vegetables and the very fine wines.

You may find, however, that the best part of the trip is the new friends you will make in Argentina. The Argentine people live their lives at a slower pace than North Americans do, which takes some getting used to, but once you make the adjustment you will like it. The day starts a little later and ends later. You generally won t begin fishing until 9.30 or 10 am. There s no need to rush to the rivers as you should have them pretty much to yourself, and the action frequently accelerates as the sun warms our coldwater fisheries. You will fish until the early evening most days, some 8 or more hours on the water.

In the pages that follow we provide useful information about Buenos Aires, Junin de los Andes, Patagonia, the Lodge and other activities such as riding, hiking, sightseeing and shopping. The Patagonia region of Argentina provides an abundance of marvelous opportunities for the traveler and you will experience many of them. You are likely to react as we have and be planning your next trip before this first one comes to an end.

Arrival in Buenos Aires from the United States Your international flight typically will arrive in Buenos Aires between 6 and 10 am. All international flights arrive in Buenos Aires at Ezeiza International Airport (the airport's official name is "Ministro Pistarini", code EZE), which is about 40 minutes driving time from downtown. (Note that there is another airport in Buenos Aires for domestic travel: Aeroparque Airport (code: AEP). Flights to Patagonia and back to Buenos Aires orginate at Aeroparque as described further below.)

Upon landing at Ezeiza on your initial arrival into Argentina you will go through immigration. The process is easy - just have your passport and immigration document (which you will fill out on the airplane before you land) ready for the official as you approach the counter. Because several flights from the United States can arrive at the same time, there may be some delay going through immigration.

The next step is to retrieve your luggage from the carousels. There will be rental carts nearby and the machines accept dollar bills and credit cards. Once you have your bags you will go through customs. We've never been stopped or had our bags searched but it's possible that this could happen to you. Chances are that they will just wave you through. Just outside customs you will enter a small area where you can make arrangements for transportation to the downtown and hotels if you have not done so already. To ease your transfers, we suggest making a reservation in advance through:

Aerolineas Argentinas (www.aerolineas.com.ar) runs regular commercial flights from Aeroparque Airport in Buenos Aires to Chapelco Airport and back. They fly every Sunday and Wednesday and this flight is usually sold out way in advance so we suggest you book this flight as soon as you have decided to fish at Chime Lodge.

You can book directly on-line with Aerolineas Argentinas www.aerolineas.com.ar Or call their Miami office (305) 648-4120 and ask for Mabel Rodriguez or Ivan Marin It is also possible to fly from Buenos Aires in or out of the city of Bariloche (Code BRC) in Patagonia, but this is further south and requires a longer drive to and from Chime Lodge and you will incur in transfer costs. Please make sure that you notify us well in advance of your arrival time and flight so that we can arrange to meet you at Chapelco Airport or wherever you plan to land in Patagonia.

Speaking the language Argentina is a Spanish speaking country, but you need not worry if you don t speak the language. Most of the people you come into contact with will speak some to very good English, starting with the transfer guide who will meet you upon arrival at Ezeiza Airport.

Currency and Paying for Things The currency in Argentina is the peso and the exchange rate with the U.S. dollar is currently about 4.2 to 1. We recommend you take as much U.S. currency with you as you are comfortable carrying. You will find that smaller denomination bills are easier to spend; take $5, $10, and $20 bills as well as $50 and $100 bills. You will have access to ATMs in Argentina that dispense pesos and you'll be able to charge things to your credit card when shopping or eating at a restaurant. You might also consider taking along your checkbook. Traveler's checks are not recommended since they generally must be taken to a bank to be cashed and the fee is quite high.

Water Although water is treated in the hotels and restaurants, it is probably better not to drink the tap water. It is customary in restaurants to order bottled mineral water. Most Argentines drink it con gas or sparkling water, but you can order it without carbonation: sin gas is the phrase to use. You can buy bottled water in kiosks on the street or from grocery stores to take with you while sightseeing. We have filtered water at Chime Lodge you can drink without worries. Shots You do not need to get any shots prior to traveling in Argentina. Electricity Argentina uses 220 volts instead of 110 volts as in the U.S. If you plan to use a small appliance like an electric razor, you will need to purchase a converter before leaving home to convert the electricity from 220 to 110 voltages. Otherwise, you will quickly overheat the appliance. You will also need some adapter plugs as the outlets are not the same as ours. There are plugs available at Chime Lodge, but you may need one if staying in Buenos Aires.

Weather Weather conditions should be similar to what they are in Montana in mid July, which means mostly warm and dry in both Buenos Aires and Northern Argentina. In the middle of our summer, be sure to have t-shirts and shorts. Come prepared for the possibility of the opposite conditions as well. Bring a high-quality rain shell and some warm clothes - turtlenecks, long-sleeved shirts and fleeces work well. Layering is the best approach. A pair of hiking boots is a good idea, too. It may be colder later, especially later in the afternoon and early evening.

Food and Drink Food and wine in Argentina are excellent. Meat is served at lunch and dinner with potatoes ( are very good. Try ensalada mixta for a green salad with tomatoes and onions. When ordering a steak look for

bife de chorizo

papas fritas

on the menu if you want a New York cut and

are French fries) and salads which

bife de lomo

if you want a filet.

Wine is vino de mesa (table wine) or vino fino (served by the bottle). The waiter will ask which you prefer and then the kind: vino tinto (red) or vino blanco, (white). Argentine wine is from vineyards near Mendoza and is quite inexpensive and good. The best known type of Argentine wine is the Malbec, which is a medium-bodied red. Cerveza is beer. Coffee is also very good in Argentina and is served espresso style in demitasse cups or with milk, cafĂŠ con leche. coffee in a big cup. Tea is also available. Coffee is often served with medialunas, which means croissants.

means

Chime Lodge offers a mix of Argentine and Italian cuisine, all poured with great Argentine wines. There is a different menu offered each day and if you have special food needs, please let us know well in advance.

Shopping Shopping hours in Argentina are usually 9 or 10 am. to noon or 1 pm when stores close for the siesta. Shops open again around 4 or 5 pm until 8 pm. Hours are not consistent and you may find that your favorite shop is closed when you want to buy something at the last minute. Argentina uses the 24-hour clock, e.g. 16:30 is 4:30 pm. Different items are sold in different kinds of stores: cosmetics in the perfumeria, drugs in the farmacia, bread and cookies in the panaderia and film or memory cards in numerous photo stores. There are supermercados which sell a variety of goods, but you often need to go to a specialty store to find certain items. It is sometimes difficult to buy over the counter drugs such as Advil, Tylenol or Sudafed; bring a supply with you and, of course, bring your own prescription drugs. Keeping in Touch with Home In Buenos Aires you can make long distance calls from your hotel or from phone booths on the street. To use the booths, you will need a phone card available at the kiosks or a supply of coins. In the smaller towns of Patagonia it is more common to see storefront telephone centers where there will be a number of phone booths and these are very inexpensive. An attendant assigns you a booth, which has a meter showing the time and cost of your call. You then pay the attendant. Look for Telefonica or Locutoria centers throughout Argentina. To make calls from Argentina to the United States you must dial 001 area code phone number. Your mobile phone and blackberry or other paging service may work in Buenos Aires and parts of Patagonia, but you should check with your service provider in advance. Chime Lodge will have regular phone availability for international calls at an extra cost. Internet Access You ll have free internet access at your hotel in Buenos Aires. There is also free satellite internet access on Chime Lodge but it may be slow compared to US standards. Rooms at Chime Lodge Each bedroom at the Lodge sleeps two anglers comfortably in single beds, with an individual bathroom and shower stocked with complimentary soap and shampoo.

Other Lodge Services Your fishing package includes guided fishing, lodging at Chime Lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, including wine or beer with dinner. Lunch typically will be simple but tasteful fare served streamside, with your choice of beverages. There is whisky, bourbon, vodka and other alcoholic beverages at the lodge at no extra cost and you are welcome to bring your favorite spirit too. The Lodge offers laundry service at an extra cost. Fishing Licenses Following your arrival at Chime Lodge we will assist you in obtaining a local fishing license, which costs $ 80 per week or $ 100 per season. Make sure you have your driver s license or passport ready (mandatory) to purchase the license. Tackle Shop and Fly-Tying Bench The Lodge maintains a limited tackle shop with a selection of fishing accessories, Chime Lodge apparel, sun block and miscellaneous items. In addition, we have a fly-tying bench for your use. Given the limitless abundance of fishing equipment available in North America, anglers generally should plan to bring their own tackle and flies. The town of Junin de los Andes also has a few small tackle shops. Please consult the Chime Lodge website or call us if you have questions about what to bring. For flies, we would recommend a typical trout fly selection of dry fly attractors (hoppers and Chernobyl ants in sizes 8 to 10; and stimulators, humpies and wulfs in sizes 10 to 12); bead-head nymphs in sizes 14 to 20, tan and olive caddis patterns in sizes 14 to 16; mayfly parachutes, emergers and cripples in sizes 14 to 20); and a selection of streamers (conehead woolly buggers, matukas, muddler minnows and bunny leeches). We will have some local favorites, including green inchworm and pancora crab patterns available for purchase.

Gratuities

To simplify your fishing day, we recommend that you consider leaving a single tip at the end of your stay. The amount of any tip is for you to decide, of course, in your sole discretion. As a guideline, we suggest that you consider a gratuity of approximately 10% of the contract price for your trip. You are welcome to reward extraordinary service with a higher tip.

Here

s a typical breakdown of the tip:

$ 30

50 per angler per day to your guide (given to your guide at the end of your stay)

$ 20

40 per angler per day to the Lodge staff (given to the lodge manager at the end of your stay to distribute to all the staff)

Departure for Home

After breakfast on your final day at the Lodge, you will settle your bill, if any with management (phone bill, any apparel or other incidental items purchased from the lodge and gratuities), and then you will be driven to San Martin de los Andes for your departure from Chapelco Airport. (Please note that the Lodge does [not] accept credit cards, so you will need to settle your bill by cash or personal check.) Most guests will fly from Chapelco Airport to Aeroparque Airport in Buenos Aires and transfer to Ezeiza Airport for their international departure flight later that afternoon or evening. Please arrange your transfer between arports in advance and allow approximately 45 minutes driving time between airports.

Please let Chime Lodge know if you would like to book again for next year. We will give you priority for the same week next season if you book with us again upon your departure or promptly thereafter.
