They caused shockw aves when they announced they were “stepping down” from royal duties last month, before moving to C anada to start building a new life there with their “ Sussex R oyal” brand. But the controversy around their decision continued last week after it w as reported that the Queen and her advisers w ere planning to refuse permission for the couple to use the word “Royal” in their new venture.
ESCAPE The news was met with a mixed response from fans on social media. One wrote, “We’ll miss them – a loss to the royals”, while another wrote, “Should have given more thought before they registered the brand. Too busy trying to find an escape from their royal duties.” Another

posted, “N obody should be allowed to commercialise ‘R oyal’. They chose to leave royal life. They chose to defy the Queen.” They had previously been gearing up to launch a charitable entity named “Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” and had even trademarked their “Sussex Royal” brand last year to be used on a range of merchandise.
However, PR experts have predicted that, even if they do lose their royal association and rebrand their charity, the pair are set to make millions from their image and fame alone.
Last week, it was also revealed that Harry and Meghan’s official departure from royal life – or Megxit, as it’s been dubbed – will start on 31 March. The pair will no longer carry out royal duties from then on, with the arrangement to be reviewed in a year’s time.
Before they officially step back, Harry and M eghan will attend six events on behalf of the royals, including the C ommonwealth Day Ser vice –which Harry is an ambassador of.
HAPPIER The news comes after it emerged 15 of the couple’s former staff had been sacked, with confirmation following that they will no longer hold an office at Buckingham Palace from 1 April.
Harry, Meghan, and their nine-month-old son Archie relocated to Canada after their bombshell announcement in January, and are now reportedly living in a £11m mansion on Vancouver Island.
Reports last week also claimed the pair are currently eyeing up a £5.4m Malibu home to live in when they visit California.
They’ve been open about their struggle in the media spotlight since going public with their romance. In their documentary, An African Journey, last September, Meghan said,
“Not many people have asked if
I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing
to be going through behind the
scenes. It’s hard.” A month later,
Harry said in a statement that he

And insiders say Cheryl, 36 – who split from Bear’s dad Liam Payne, 26, in July 2018 – has told pals she won’t be bringing up her next baby alone, after revealing her BFF and former Girls Aloud

SUPPORT A source says, “Nicola and Cheryl used to live minutes apart in Surrey, and Nicola even moved in for a while. She speaks to Cheryl almost every day and told her she misses seeing her and Bear regularly. With Cheryl now thinking of having her next child, Nicola has told her she’ll be with her every step of the way. Cheryl has plenty of spare rooms at her home, so she’s welcomed the offer and feels comforted knowing she won’t face going it alone. She said she’d love it if they could spend more time together.”
The pair, along with fellow former bandmate Kimberley Walsh, have been a tight-knit trio ever since the band formed 18 years ago, with the pals even sharing a home in their Girls Aloud days. They’ve supported Liam is moving in with his new side” and was looking into

one another on their solo ventures since, with Nicola writing songs for Cheryl’s fourth solo album, Only Human , and Cher yl cheering on Nicola when she was unveiled as The Masked Singer ’s victorious Queen Bee recently . In January, Nicola said, “Kimberley and Cheryl are really like my roots –there ’s such a deep thread there. We ’ve gone through everything together. Everything.” Nicola has also been fiercely protective of the twicedivorced star over the years – jumping to her defence over abusive comments her pal received from trolls after her split from Liam. Insiders recently told Closer that The Greatest Dancer judge Cheryl was looking into LA-based sperm donor clinics after considering spending more time Stateside to escape the spotlight during her pregnancy and that she hoped ex Liam would be by her side. But after reports that girlfriend, model M aya H enry, 19, pals sa y this –together with Nicola’s offer –has prompted a change of hear t. The source sa ys, “ While she was initially tempted to move to L A for a bit, the thought of being so far a way from her family and friends has made her decide to sta y in the UK. N icola told Cher yl she ’ll help in ever y wa y she can during her next pregnancy –she loves babies and she adores Bear, too .” UNCONVENTIONAL Following her split from the Strip That Down singer, Cher yl revealed she’s k een to find love with someone outside of the entertainment industr y, adding, “I would 100 per cent date a shelf-stacker from Sainsbur y’s.” But last month, she confessed she didn ’t “ha ve time on her ❛ SHE SHOULD HAVE EVERY CHANCE OF HAVING ANOTHER T W O KIDS BEFORE SHE’S 40 ❜ alternative options, including using a sperm donor to conceive a sibling for Bear. Talking of trying for another baby, she recently admitted, “You don’t necessarily need to be in a relationship. I’ve got a friend who’s had two children using donors. Not everything has to be conventional.” And pals say with Nicola’s vow of support, she’s preparing to put the wheels in motion. A source says, “With Bear’s third birthday coming up next month, Cheryl’s worried that if she leaves it too much longer, the age gap will be too big, so she’s started to get the ball rolling. “And with experts now able to fertilise more than one egg at a time, Cheryl should have every chance of having another two children by the time she’s 40, which would be a dream for her, as she’s told friends she’s always wanted a big family.” By Daisy McLure
