Kiwi stars’ Valentine

When I was younger I used to like the idea of an extravagant date, but now it’s the simple things that I appreciate the most. As long as I’m with the one I love, my husband Mike, and have his undivided attention, then I’m happy. Fish and chips on the beach with a bottle of wine and a gorgeous sunset really is my idea of perfection. Valentine’s Day is so close to our wedding anniversary that we’ll probably celebrate both together and have lunch at the same place where we exchanged our vows on Waiheke Island. Valentine’s car ame a focus at our school, so I made one and gave it to a boy I liked. I think it was because he was a really fast runner. He had a predictable young boy reaction – ew yuck! With three kids and busy lives, I’m just grateful for any date night. This year my husband Scotty and I will probably do what we did at Christmas, making a rule that we wouldn’t buy presents but write something to each other. V l ’ b STACEY MORRISON The Hits

Be my Valent i

My partner Ryan and my anniversary falls a couple of days before Valentine’s Day, so we tend to just combine the two. But the week of our first anniversary I happened to be travelling around the country for Breakfast , so Ryan and I couldn’t be together. Unbeknownst to me, Ryan had been liaising with my producer, flew to the South Island, hired a rental car and drove to Hanmer Springs to be with me. He turned up to our hotel with flowers and took me out for dinner, and it was honestly the most overwhelming gesture anyone had ever made for me. He is an absolute keeper! My first Valentine s card was to a boy on the Eastbourne bus to town when I was 13. He had shaggy hair and made me very nervous. I slipped him a note saying “I lyke u.” I think he asked for my number and then never texted me. My perfect date is a mattress on the floor in the lounge with movies and wine in my own house. This year I’ll be away at a hen’s do –it’s just another day! M fi t V l ti ’ d OULL Have You Been Paying Attention? H AY L E Y S P R O Have You Be

Someone once left a dozen red roses in the shared lockers at school. I still don’t know if they were meant for me, but I took them graciously. The most romantic thing I’ve done is wear a T-shirt I made declaring my love for my husband Tony, who was then my boyfriend – and then I thrashed him on a tennis date. This Valentine’s Day we’ll have wine and good kai and celebrate that we love each other, even when it’s not perfect. Perfectly imperfect … and hopefully some Lonely lingerie! I was about 10 or 11 when I was sent a mystery box of chocolates in the mail from a secret admirer … to this day I’m still not 100% sure who it was. It was a buzz getting them, I know that! This Valentine’s Day my husband and I have no plans yet, but maybe a movie and dinner –something lowkey as we have three little kids! TONI STREET The Hits

I’ve never given a Valentine’s Day card, but once I filled my wife Melissa’s apartment with red roses. Then when she went to the balcony to see if anyone was out there, I was standing in a convertible with my boom box and I sang her a song. It was pretty tiring –I don’t think I’ll do it again. This year it’s a surprise, even to me! JAMIE IRVINE Shortland Street

Back when I was into Valentine’s Day I was still hiding my sexuality, so it was a low-key day as it felt like a very heterosexual celebration. Nowadays it’s completely different because nobody cares, but I’m at that stage in life where we moan about the money! My partner Anton once flew home early from France to watch the debut ofThe Bachelor , which was amazing. However, I had to host an opening night with Art Green so my poor partner sat at home and watched it by himself! h I i V l MIKE PURU The Hits
