ABOUT CARTHAGE ...

The Lady Reds open the 2015 season after an interesting offseason. Moves among the administration finally landed Carthage’s star player from a year ago, Lauren (Chatham) Hein, at the helm. On the field, Hein led the Lady Reds in goals (78), assists (38), points (116), and draw controls (45). In addition to the loss of Hein, Carthage is faced with finding replacements for Sydney Whitaker (57 goals, 25 assists, 82 points, and 25 ground balls) and goalkeeper Ali Gorman (12.15 goals against average, 133 saves, and .426 save percentage). Whitaker was a dual threat next to Hein, while Gorman was a force in the net. Filling the void will be senior Hannah Bellenbuan. Starting all 18 games, Bellenbaum tallied 17 goals while boasting a team-best .810 shooting percentage with every shot on frame. In goal, junior Taylor Sopron will take over goal tending duties. Facing 43 shots last season, Sopron boasted a .441 save percentage and a 5.37 goals against average.

LORAS vs AUGSBURG

GAME 2 ABOUT AUGSBURG ...

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22 • MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. • 12:00 PM

Augsburg heads into their second season as a program after finishing 6-7 in their inaugural season. The Auggies season was highlighted by a program-opening threegame winning streak before closing play with a 10-9 win over Bethel University Club Team. Returning for the Auggies are sophomore captains Shelby Brion and Lexi Halverson. Brion paced the attack, tallying a team-high 26 points. With a team-best 21 goals, Brion was one of six players to net at least 15 goals on the season. On the defensive side, Augsburg will rely heavily on the play of Halverson. After leading the team in ground balls (41) and draw controls (45), Halverson will be a staple on the Auggies backline. The most notable loss comes in goal where Ashley Eliason held the post a season ago. In seven starts Eliason compiled a 5-4 record while stopping 77 of 231 shots faced. Stepping into the void left by Eliason will be freshmen Sarah Hochman and Marissa Guillou. The duo will be adjusting to the speed of the collegiate game on the fly.
