THE GRAPEVINE

AND WHAT A YEAR IT'S BEEN!

FROM TRADESHOW TO COMMUNITY EVENTS, IT'S BEEN BUSY

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we can't help but reflect on a fantastic year filled with community spirit and unforgettable moments. We kicked things off with a fun Flaunt Your Flannel game night with the Abbotsford Canucks, where fans came together to enjoy the on-ice action and show off their best flannel. Our 34th annual tradeshow was a huge success, bringing together industry leaders in a lively atmosphere that sparked great conversations and partnerships. Summer was buzzing with excitement as we hosted a variety of car shows and thrilling race events at Mission Raceway, attracting automotive enthusiasts from all over North America. In efforts to get photos for the calendar this year we spent more time in Alberta meeting great staff and customers local to the region. In September, we had a blast at the annual Meadow Gardens Staff Invitational, where local golf fans enjoyed a day of friendly competition. November was a standout month as we proudly sponsored the 2024 Grey Cup Block Party, featuring a visit from WWE superstar Chelsea Green and a show-stopping performance by Canadian rock icon Bif Naked. It was the perfect way to cap off our milestone year!

With excitement for the holiday’s parties still in the air, We thank you for being such an important part of our 50th anniversary. We can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Shared platforms, like the MLB Evo used in the VW Touareg, Lamborghini Urus, and Bentley Bentayga, allow manufacturers to reduce costs while offering distinct models. Despite sharing components, each vehicle differs in performance and luxury, catering to different markets. This modular approach helps maintain brand identity and efficiency. 1

Kudos

Mark, Joey, Nik, And Linda - Port Coquitlam #6

Really appreciate the great service and large help by some staff here lately - multiple needs for two vehicles. Easy to work with, friendly, courteous, and getting the right parts and tools.

Thank you Mark, Joey, Nik, and Linda!

-Kyle Wright

Andrew Kuo - White Rock #14

I just wanted to take a few minutes to mention one of your employees, Andrew Kuo, at your White Rock #14 location on King George Boulevard in Surrey. I visited this store yesterday (November 14th) after having spent over 1/2 hour in vain at Canadian Tire in an attempt to find specific light bulbs, even with the aid of an employee.

Within less than 1 minute after my arrival, Andrew, noticing that I struggling with my search, offered his help. He was quickly able to identify the bulbs I needed, but unfortunately, the store didn’t have them in stock. He assured me though, that he could get them for me the following morning, which is exactly what happened. Even though all I needed were a few puny light bulbs, I felt important.

I was impressed, not only with his efficiency, but also with his inconspicuous eagerness to fulfill my needs, and his politeness.

I would hope that this email finds its way down to Andrew, my pick for “Employee Of The Month”. Regards,

-Phil Caza, Owner @ South Rock Handyman Phil.

Ryley Phan - Calgary #102

Ryley was incredibly helpful, honest and sincere in assisting me today in buying that right parts and tools. I would sincerely recommend anyone I know to come to this location after my excellent experience!

-Shefa Khairullah

Matthew Lodge - Kelowna #34

I was blown away by the service at this location. Matt went above and beyond to help me. I am the first to admit, I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to vehicles. My headlight was burnt out, and I had already bought the wrong bulbs before. He took the time to come out to my vehicle, make sure he knew which one I needed (I was no help), and then after I purchased the bulbs he even swapped both my headlights for me right there in the parking lot! I did not expect to get such amazing assistance. Can only say good things, will absolutely be back. Plus, I wasn't the only one who thought he was awesome! Give Matt a raise!

-Stephanie Ponzini

Taylor Holland - Merritt #54

Hi, I just wanted to write and say what exceptional service we received from Taylor Holland at your Merritt store on Friday. Our vehicle had been towed from the Coquihalla summit due to a radiator hose issue. And without Taylor’s help and expertise we would not have been back on the road that evening. He was knowledgeable, patient and friendly and went above and beyond. Please pass on our thanks

-Helen and Lee

Chris Saunders - Lake Country #42

I was in Lordco this past Saturday for my business and had several questions. Chris, was able to answer ALL of them, which is extremely hard it seems nowadays. Typically, I’ll have one of the advisors have to ask or get their manager come out to answer, as my mechanical background assistance can appear to be unusual or more intricate. Chris, didn’t hesitate and was knowledgeable throughout the entire process, all while maintaining a friendly atmosphere. Will be the only store I’m stopping at from now on. Thanks Chris!

DECEMBER AWARENESS

Women’s Brain Health Day

December 2nd is Women’s Brain Health Day! This December, let’s come together to learn about brain function, brain health, and lifestyle changes that can help protect women from brain-aging disorders. This day is all about promoting education, research, and support for brain disorders that disproportionately affect women.

Why Focus on Women’s Brain Health?

Women’s brain health is historically underfunded and under-researched. In fact, brain disorder diagnostics, prevention, medication, and treatment in females are currently based on research in males. This has proved to be ineffective at preventing brain disorders and cognitive decline in women when compared to men, which is why it’s so important to raise awareness for women’s brain health. Brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia affect women at a much higher rate, with around 70% of Alzheimer’s cases being women. In the research that has been done on women’s brain health, it was found that up to 40% of cases of dementia may be preventable with the right lifestyle. These statistics cannot be ignored, so a quick guide filled with preventative measures is included below.

6 Pillars of Brain Health

These preventative lifestyle choices can reduce your risk of cognitive impairment and keep your brain functioning at its best!

1. Mental stimulation. Exercise your brain like it’s a muscle. Keep learning new things to create new neuropathways so that when one part of your pathway starts to age, the new pathways take over. Learning a new skill, instrument, or language is a great way to make new connections and keep your brain active. The more complex the activity, the better it is for your brain.

2. Exercise. Exercise expands the size of the hippocampus – the part of the brain involved in learning and memory. Exercise can reduce the risk of cognitive impairment by up to 36%. Doing just 10 minutes of aerobic activity per day improves problem-solving skills and focus.

3. Nutrition. Eating a low sodium diet full of omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins such as fish, fruits, vegetables, olive oil, and nuts helps to protect your brain from cognitive decline.

4. Social engagement. Spending time with friends and family can reduce stress and isolation, leading to a happier, healthier brain. It was found that women who have daily social engagement reduce their risk of dementia by 50%.

5. Sleep. Sleep is extremely important to women’s brain health. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night to reduce the risk of brain disorders and cognitive decline.

6. Stress reduction. Chronic or prolonged stress releases cortisol into your body, which can cause premature damage to your brain. Yoga or any type of mindful movement can help reduce and manage stress while keeping you active.

There is evidence that lifestyle choices can help women modify their risk and positively influence their brain health. However, many women don’t know about the affects that these choices can have on their brain, or how to change their lifestyle. To lean more, find support, donate to research, and access resources to share about women’s brain health, visit https://womensbrainhealth.org/. Spread knowledge and support this December 2nd by joining Women’s Brain Health Day!

STARS OF SAFETY

DECEMBER RECOGNITION

Safety RECOGNITION

L8 & L89 Stores Achieve Outstanding Performance in Annual Safety Inspection

We are very proud to recognize the exceptional efforts of L8-Abbotsford and L89-Maple Ridge stores for their near-perfect scores during the recent annual safety inspection. Both stores demonstrated remarkable compliance with safety regulations and showcased a strong commitment to adopting safety-culture.

L8 and L89 have set a high bar for operational safety. The store demonstrated excellent practices in several key areas, including:

• TDG Compliance: The team worked diligently to ensure full compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations. All gases were stored properly, securely chained, and wellseparated, meeting safety standards.

• Organized Industrial and Paint Rooms: The Industrial and Paint rooms were so organized, with no excess materials or trash. This ensured a safe workplace free from potential hazards.

• Clear Aisles and Proper Equipment Storage: Aisles were clear of obstructions, ladders were securely stored, and all safety signage was visible and in place, promoting a hazard-free workspace.

• Safety Knowledge: Employees displayed a good understanding and could discuss a variety of safety-related topics

• Training Completion: All committee members completed their safety training, reinforcing their role in upholding and promoting a culture of safety throughout the store.

While it would be unrealistic to claim "perfect" performance—since audits often uncover areas for continuous improvement—both locations stood out for their consistent attention to safety practices. Managers and staff work together to ensure everyone is engaged and responsible. Constant open communication, regular safety meetings, and a shared dedication to creating a safe work environment are key factors to their success.

Although there’s always room for improvement, L8 and L89’s performance in this audit reflects their dedication to safety and their determination to continuously enhance safety culture and compliance.

Congratulations to the team at L8-Abbotsford and L89-Maple Ridge and thank you for your continued commitment to safety excellence!
