Kudos

Nicholas Wadden - Merritt #54

Nick went above and beyond to help us with parts, tools and even came out to give my husband a hand with the truck. I can not express how grateful we are to this absolutely amazing guy ! We would still be stranded on the Coq with our kids if it wasn't for him. Absolutely recommend dealing with Nick and everyone else who was so helpful in the store today. Thank you so much . Five stars doesn't even touch the help we received today. Exceeded every single expectation. Thanks again for going above and beyond.

-The Courchesne family

Shahil Narayan / Ashton Simpson - Chilliwack #4

Sid and Ashton are amazing! My car battery died after 12 years of service and I had no idea what to do. Person from roadside assistance helped me with a jump start and advised me to replace battery. Sid came outside to help me remove the old battery and even lended me his own tools. They not only helped me with their knowledge, but also calmed me down mentally. I appreciate the existence of these good people, they deserve a raise.

You are fortunate to have employees like him because their attitude bring customers back over and over again . I'm one of them from now on ! TRUTH AND RECONCILATION DAY SEPTEMBER 30TH

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

On Orange Shirt Day, Lordco stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities across Canada. We believe in the power of unity and understanding. Together, we can create positive change. As a small gesture towards a more inclusive future, we are proud to announce that we have distributed orange shirts to our employees to proudly wear today. This small act carries a powerful message of remembrance and hope. Let’s continue to learn, listen, and support one another on this important journey.

OVARIAN AND PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

September is Ovarian and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month! This month aims to increase awareness and improve support for those affected by ovarian and prostate cancer. There have been great improvements in the treatment, detection, and prevention of these types of cancer, so this month, we will be looking at a few ways to keep you and your loved ones healthy.

What is Cancer?

The body is made up of cells that grow and divide naturally. Normally, when cells become old or damaged, new cells are generated to replace them. This process happens without issue almost every day. However, cancer can interrupt this natural process if the genetic material (DNA) of some cells are damaged or changed. When cells are altered, they can grow and replicate uncontrollably. Ovarian and prostate cancer are characterized by a group of these altered cells in the ovaries or prostate.

Ovarian and Prostate Cancer

Although these diseases affect men and women disproportionately, they are both hormone-related cancers which affect organs in the reproductive system. Ovarian cancer affects the ovaries, which are small glands on each side of the uterus. Prostate cancer affects the prostate, which is a small gland located in the lower abdomen. Ovarian cancer generally affects women, while prostate cancer affects men, but in both cases, routine checkups can reduce the risk of developing cancer. Early detection allows for more treatment options and preventative measures.

Knowing the Signs

Both types of cancers are united by a lack of symptoms in their early stages. Knowing the signs and symptoms is extremely important to early detection and treatment. The early symptoms of ovarian cancer include pelvic pain, bloating, and difficulty eating. The early symptoms of prostate cancer include frequent urination and pain in the spine, ribs, or hips. Recognizing these symptoms could save you from further developing cancer, so be sure to check in with a doctor if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. Additionally, if you recognize these symptoms in a friend, co-worker, or loved one, be sure to refer them to their doctor.

Screening

Ovarian cancer is notoriously difficult to detect. Regular checkups and screening can help notice irregularities in ovarian health, but it is best to contact your OBGYN if you notice any new or persistent changes. Asking for a screening during your yearly checkup could also help you identify ovarian cancer in its early stages. Prostate cancer can be mitigated by getting a prostate exam every 3 to 5 years. The doctor will check for any irregularities or lumps and send you to further screening if needed. But again, if you notice any changes in your health, it is best to ask for a full screening.

What Can You Do?

This month, spread awareness about ovarian and prostate cancer. While these topics can be scary and difficult to talk about, bringing them to light could save a life! Feel free to visit ovariancanada.org or cancer.ca/en/about-us/prostate-cancer if you would like to learn more!

SEPTEMBER RECOGNITION

SAFETY Starts with YOU

Recognizing Excellence: Going above and beyond in Safety

When it comes to workplace safety, readiness and alertness are essential, particularly during emergencies and when first aid is needed. Marissa Brideau, a First Aid attendant, and Safety Committee member at L27-Newton, exemplifies proactive excellence in safety through her innovative approach to documenting first aid kit items. Typically, first aid kits contain various items along with a list that can be hard to interpret without prior knowledge and familiarity. Recognizing this gap, Marissa took the initiative to exceed the standard practice of simply attaching a list to the first aid kit box. She creatively enhanced everyone’s safety readiness by photographing each item in the first aid kit and organizing these images in an easily accessible format. By providing clear visual guides, Marissa has significantly improved the accessibility and usability of first aid resources, contributing to a safer workplace environment.

Marissa’s approach fosters a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement, significantly enhancing workplace safety standards. Her innovative strategies inspire others to prioritize safety in their daily operations.

This is a testament that SAFETY starts with YOU!

Fantastic Engagement in the Safety activity

The latest safety activity has achieved a remarkable level of participation and engagement from all employees at LORDCO. The new approach was introduced at the beginning of August, using QR codes to give each employee instant access to safety activities and TDG quizzes. This contemporary method not only made participation easier but also simplified the integration of safety practices into daily work activities. The positive feedback and active participation serve as a reminder that when everyone is involved, nothing is impossible. Congratulations to everyone for making this campaign a great success! Special thanks and kudos to several stores for reaching 100% completion during the first week!

» Next, you will have the option to add your dependents, if applicable.

• To learn more about each benefit package, click on the (i) icon. Please note that once a benefit package is selected, coverage is in place for 2 years or until a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) occurs.

• If coverage is not required for one or more of your dependents, please select “Change Dependent Coverage”, de-select the check mark which will be beside the dependents’ name, and click save. You will then be prompted to provide the duplicate coverage information for each benefit – click on “Provide Alternate Coverage Details”.

3. Assign your beneficiaries

Once your plan and dependent information have been submitted, you will be prompted to assign beneficiaries to your plan. Please note that beneficiary information is for both Life and AD&D coverage.

If you have added dependents to your plan, their information will be pre-populated. To add a different beneficiary, select “Choose Beneficiaries”, then click “Add New Beneficiary”.

• Once you have inputted your beneficiary information, click on the beneficiary button. This will allow you to designate a percentage to each beneficiary listed (must add up to 100%).

• The Dependent Life does not require a selection and will be provided based on adding your dependents to your plan.

4. Review your enrollment

• Once you have picked your plan and declared your beneficiaries, you will be taken to your Enrollment Summary page.

» If you would like to make changes, please select the “red pencil” icon.

The next page will allow you to review information for each of the following tabs: Personal, Beneficiaries, and Dependents.

• Select the “Submit Electronic Beneficiary Designation” button to review and agree to the terms of the application. Finally, check the box to agree, and click save.

• Once you are satisfied that everything is correct, check the box beside the confirmation wording and click submit.
