April 22nd to 29th is World Primary Immunodeficiency Week! This week was designed to raise awareness for those living with Primary Immunodeficiency (PI), provide support to those with PI and share resources to keep your immune system healthy.
What is the Purpose of Your Immune System?
Your immune system is made of cells, proteins, tissues, and organs that protect the body from disease, infection, and foreign substances. This complex system is dispersed throughout the body and includes organs and tissues of the lymphatic system and white blood cells called leukocytes. The major purpose of your immune system is to fight o foreign substances so that you don’t get sick, however, your immune system also protects your cells by keeping a record of every germ that tries to attack them, so that it can recognize and destroy foreign cells quickly.
What is Primary Immunodeficiency?
Primary Immunodeficiency (PI) includes a range of disorders that lead to a weakened immune system. This means that germs can get through undetected and wreak havoc on the body, causing those with PI to feel sick and fatigued more often. While many forms of PI are inherited through family genetics, some types of PI can be developed at any time. Unfortunately, this disease is hard to diagnose since most symptoms resemble common infections. Be sure to watch for signs such as repeated infections and talk to your doctor if you’re concerned.
Living with Primary Immunodeficiency
Since those living with PI feel sick frequently, many have said the disorder has had an e ect on their physical, social, and emotional well-being. Exercise, social outings, and self-care are some of the most important ways to maintain well-being while living with PI. A support system can greatly improve the lives of those with PI, so if you or someone you know has PI, don’t be afraid to reach out. If you’re looking for a support system to help with exercise and healthy eating in the management of PI, check out the Healthy Cravings and Get Your Heart Rate Up communities on our Wellness Platform!

Roko Golubic - Kelowna #34
Here I go again with another rave about an employee at Lordco auto parts. This time I am raving about a guy named Roko!!!!! Yesterday I went to buy some coolant for my car just in case I needed some over the next few days. Roko was on his way out the door since he was done his shift . He offered to help me look at my car….thank God that he did as I was just going to put the coolant in my back seat of my car and go shopping. When he opened up my hood, the radiator cap had blown off since I likely did not tighten it enough when I added coolant in the morning ! It was a coolant explosion inside of my engine , and there was actually pools of coolant running from my car and streams. crazy!!!!!! All I can say is Roko is a super nice guy who went above and beyond even when he was done his day at work to help me. He is an incredible human being. We need more people like him on our planet.

Eric Rowlett - West Kelowna #39
Eric helped me with my wipers that had clips that didn’t fit. Absolutely phenomenal service! He spent a good 30 minutes hunting down the right size clips and wipers for me. He even went out and installed them for me to make sure they work correctly! Would definitely recommend his service to anyone! Very kind and professional.

Harald Jahn - Port Alberni #91
Very friendly staff, easy to access location. Harald was very helpful and helped me pick out the right part for my car and made sure I got the best price! Would 100% recommend to anyone needing parts to swing by, thanks again Harald!

APRIL RECOGNITION
Part of OHS’s commitment to workplace safety is the continuous efforts to reduce risks and raise awareness. Today, we are excited to recognize Joe for his remarkable contributions to the MSI (Musculoskeletal Injury) reduction campaign. Since the campaign's launch earlier this year, Joe has not only embraced the initiative but has gone above and beyond to lead by example. Recognizing the potential hazards caused by lifting heavy loads especially the blue bins which are an essential part at Lordco’s daily operations, Joe took immediate action to ensure his team understood the importance of proper lifting techniques and safe practices.
Understanding the risks associated with lifting heavy loads, Joe simulated a load of blue bins that are built to approximately 35-40 lbs so that his colleagues could learn the feel and ideal way a tote should be packed. During the morning safety huddle, Joe demonstrated this example to L1 pickers, offering practical insights into how to handle these bins safely. This allowed his colleagues to experience the feel of these bins, giving them a clear understanding of how best to pack items and reduce strain on their bodies.
His initiative not only raised awareness of potential risks but have also created a culture of care and responsibility within his team. Thanks to his enthusiasm, Joe has played an important role in helping everyone work smarter, safer, and more efficiently.
Let's continue to follow his example by prioritizing safety in everything we do!
Together, we are stronger and safer!
