Pete Zielenski - Hope #7
I stopped in at the Hope Lordco on my way from Surrey to Penticton. My wiper blades were smearing and I didn't want to continue the trip that way. I walked in with the old wiper blade in my hand and Pete was such a help. He looked up the correct blade I needed, talked me through the options, sold me the correct replacements, and then kindly talked me through how to attach the new ones. It may seem like a relatively simple thing, but to me, his kindness and competence made a big difference. So well done, Lordco, having such a great employee, and thank you, Pete!

Nik Gimpel - Oxford #6
I don't see a place where I can give a "thank you" to your staff so I am sending it to you and hope you will relay the message. I had a problem with my windshield wipers. I dropped into your Oxford Connector location and was greeted by Nik Gimpel. He was friendly, attentive, helpful, and focused on my issue in a way I rarely see any more. It was so NICE to be treated like I really mattered. He did a great job. I did NOT get my problem fixed but Nik worked hard to help me find a solution. I will go straight back to that store the next time I need a part for anything I own.
Please let him know his attitude and commitment to customer service really does make a difference.
Brad Martin.

National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
November is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month! Domestic Violence can affect anyone, and it can be hard to spot. This month is all about learning the signs, creating change, and supporting victims of domestic violence.
What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic Violence is characterized by any sort of abuse within a person’s domestic circle, usually meaning abuse by a partner or family member. However, domestic abuse can happen to anyone and can occur within a range of different relationships. Domestic violence is a pattern of behaviour that is used to gain control over the victim. This can take the form of physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological abuse. Domestic abuse is often meant to frighten, intimidate, manipulate, blame, or injure someone. However, abuse is not always obvious at first.
Knowing the Signs
If you have experienced any of these behaviours, you may be a victim of domestic abuse. It is important that you talk to someone about your experience and remove yourself from the situation as soon as possible.
The behaviours include, but are not limited to:
• Embarrassing you or making fun of you in front of people you care about.
• Putting down your accomplishments.
• Making you feel like you can’t make your own decisions.
• Using intimidation or threats to gain compliance.
• Treating you roughly – such as grabbing, pushing, pinching, or shoving your body.
• Blaming you for how they feel or act.
• Pressuring you in a way you are clearly not comfortable with.
• Making you feel like you are nothing without them.
• Preventing you from spending time with others.
• Exerting any type of control you are not comfortable with.
What To Do If You Are Experiencing Domestic Violence
If you feel that you are in danger, call 911 or use the National Domestic Violence Hotline. If you need additional support, contact a confidential counselor using Lordco’s EFAP program. Remember that you are not alone and that no one deserves abuse. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, seek help as soon as possible!
You can find more information and domestic violence support services at https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/health-promotion/stop-family-violence/services.html This November, spread the word and create change by talking about Domestic Violence.

Upcoming First Aid Regulatory Changes in BC: What We Need to Know
The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation's Part 3 - which deals with the provision of occupational first aid has been amended by the Board of Directors of WorkSafeBC and will take effect on November 1, 2024.
The changes aim to align the OHS Regulation with the first aid training and first aid kit framework of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
Our company has an obligation to establish our workplace first aid requirements, under the amended OHS Regulation. Lordco is obliged to:
• Provide the minimum number of first-aid attendants, facilities, and supplies specified in the Regulation.
• In consultation with workers, perform a written first aid assessment for each workplace to determine any additional equipment, supplies, facilities, attendants, and services necessary to ensure injured workers receive prompt, easily accessible, and appropriate first aid treatment.
Companywide Preparation
Our company has proactively taken measures to ensure complete compliance across all our stores in preparation for these changes. OHS planning, effective communication, and coordination have been key. All Lordco stores, warehouses, and offices have been informed of the new regulations, and updated documentation has been disseminated to keep everyone aligned and compliant, making every store ready by the 1st of November. in the future!
Kudos Courtenay Team!
Prompt Implementation
Many stores have already completed the first aid assessments and begun updating the first aid kits, training needs, and even performing drills.
Understanding the importance of practical training, L37 Victoria and L60 Kamloops took the initiative to conduct a drill to evaluate the new first aid procedures, especially rescuing or moving the injured person from the paint room and an opportunity to practice the newly appointed first aid attendant. After the drill, they shared areas for improvement and insights to ensure everyone was aligned and had a solid plan.
The team made the drill engaging and fun, involving other staff members and reinforcing their readiness. This drill was a collaborative effort led by the managers and the first aid team. Together, they have set a great example of how we can all prepare successfully for the coming changes. These initiatives show the importance of effective first-aid readiness in our workplaces.
Our commitment to workplace safety remains strong, and we are positive that our diligent preparations will ensure compliance and enhance workplace first aid services for employees’ well-being.
