There are details of many lovely outdoor activities to keep your little ones busy. The Pottery Beach at Denby is back and this summer at The National Forest Adventure Farm the Maize Maze theme is dinosaurs. But if the good old British weather gets the better of us then there are also plenty of indoor options too. There is a voucher for 2 for 1 entry to Tubby Bear’s and Chucklebutties have a new summer deal as well as beach parties at Planet Happy and Freddy’s! The local museums have lots planned and many of these activities are free. I have included details in the ‘Lots on Local’ section of any of our advertisers who are running summer classes. It can be hard when you have pre-school age children when many weekly activities stop over the summer. Big Friendly Read Summer Reading Challenge 2016

Derby City Libraries This year’s challenge celebrates 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl and features some of the author’s best-loved characters. The challenge is for children aged from four to 11 years and is produced by The Reading Agency delivered by libraries. To take part, children need to read or share with a parent or other family member six library books of their own choice. There are limited edition Roald Dahl character cards to collect and a certificate and award for those who complete. This year, children under four can take part and will have a collector card and stickers; and an age appropriate award. Children can join for free at any Derby library. All city libraries will be running free bookable events for those taking part in the Challenge throughout the summer holidays including puppet shows, poetry and performance storytelling of some of the author’s most famous books. We are celebrating the 10th birthday of Twistin Tots and to mark the occasion there is a chance to win a free annual pass Pre-School music group, Twistin Tots, has just celebrated 10 years of running classes. It is amazing how it has grown from one class to thirteen classes in eight locations.

Plus there are now classes to suit different ages. Twistin Tinies classes are from birth to 18 months. These fun classes use a mix of unusual instruments, music, balls, light shows and puppets to entertain and stimulate your children, while providing a great environment for parents to mix with other like-minded families and share experiences over tea and cake.

Twistin Tots is for toddlers but is perfect for parents with different age pre-school children as it is suitable for 0-5 years. Jacqui has recently introduced Twistin Tikes for pre-schoolers and this has been designed around the Early Years Foundation Framework.
