Lots of News... £900 raised by Lots for Tots Show
Over 1800 parents (plus children!) & parents-to-be visited the Bump to Five Show on Saturday 8th May 2010 & although the weather was wet & cold, inside the atmosphere was warm & welcoming! The show, sponsored by Westfield Derby was a fantastic success for visitors & stall holders alike & children l o v e d t h e m a n y a c t iv it ie s & entertainment on offer from craft workshops, messy play, baby signing, planting, chocolate fountain, ice cream, face painting, dance & theatre demos & much more. Many lucky winners received some fantastic prizes from our raffle in aid of The Lewis Mighty Fund & in total we raised £900 for the fund on the day which is fantastic. Lewis even received a special Spiderman toy box from Amanda Skerritt Designs with "The Mighty Lewis" on it. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated & enjoyed the show. Your feedback has been appreciated & we will be working hard to bring you an even bigger & better show next year. We can't wait to welcome you again!
Mummys making the most of morning fun
A brand new toddler club has been launched at Westfield Derby, giving mums (and dads) the chance to meet, chat and be spoilt rotten with their children twice a month. Mummy Mornings are designed for parents to enjoy some special „me-time‟ with other mums, dads and carers over a free cup of coffee, and kids are always welcome! The event is hosted at Spur Steak & Grill in Eat Central on the first and third Wednesday of every month and the venue has a lovely soft play area, free craft activities and a goody bag to take away every week. Each morning is themed, from style and beauty sessions, to advice on relaxation and well being, with free samples, taster sessions and exclusive offers from retailers. Liz Hollingshead from Design 4 Education, who runs the Mummy Mornings said: “When you‟re a mum it‟s so rare that you get chance to sit and have a natter, and the beauty of the event is that it gives Mums time to relax in a safe and welcoming environment for the kids." For more information visit westfield.com/derby or turn up on the day at 9.30am on the first and third Wednesday of every month.

The 2010 National Forest Maize Maze
Loose yourself this summer in an unforgettable family day out at one of the largest mazes in Europe. The National Forest Maize Maze at Burton on Trent offers hours of fun in acres of space! The maze has opened every summer since 2004 and has quickly become one of the largest seasonal summer attractions in the Midlands. Each year the maze opens with a new theme and a brand new design, which ensures that no two mazes are the same. So even if you have visited before, the challenge will be totally different. The maze is sculpted from a crop of forage maize which grows taller than 8ft! The challenge is to navigate your way around the maze along the pathways, crossing bridges and climbing towers along the way. There is also a fun quiz trail hidden along the maze pathways and everyone who completes it is entered into the prize draw. Once you have conquered the maze there is still plenty to keep you entertained. The Fun Field play area is included in the entry price and includes tractor and trailer rides, go-cart grand prix, giant inflatables, Wild West water shoot out, barrel train and lots more. See page 12 to win a family ticket! Visit www.nationalforestmaze.co.uk for details. www.lotsfortots.co.uk
A big splash of cash for charity
Tommy’s is calling for babies, toddlers and young children across the country to make a big splash for cash this summer, by getting involved in Tommy‟s Splashathon 2010. Young „splashers‟ are encouraged to ask friends and family to sponsor them to have a splash in aid of Tommy‟s, which funds research into pregnancy complications. With approximately 300 pools across the country taking part from June to August, little ones can be sponsored to „splash‟ the length or width of their local pool during the free event, or can incorporate their own „splashathon‟ into a normal lesson or swimming fun day. Tommy‟s is offering a range of fantastic prizes for all those taking part. Every little „splasher‟ to raise over £50 and return their sponsorship form by 31 August 2010 will receive a special Tommy‟s prize. As a special thank you, the top fundraising „splasher‟ will receive a prize pack from Splash About, full of goodies worth £200 including a float jacket, UV goggles and swimwear. Getting involved couldn‟t be simpler: call the sponsorship hotline on 020 7398 3482 or visit www.splashathon.org to find out if your local pool is participating. Or simply get your little one splashing in your own pool / bath – every splash counts! info@lotsfortots.co.uk

To celebrate the newly opened £3m Himalaya attraction, Twycross Zoo are offering one lucky Lots for Tots reader a free family ticket. Himalaya is a visitor attraction in itself that will put Twycross Zoo up in the top tier of British Zoos. The building has been designed to be an attractive central feature within the zoo, it is a single storey, grassroofed building which blends in sympathetically with the natural local surroundings. The new entrance will speed up access to the zoo for visitors and the Tourist Information Centre within the building is a gateway to the National Forest. Incorporated within the building is a spacious 300 seat all-day restaurant with v iews overlooking onto a Himalayan landscape themed Snow Leopard enclosure. Bluebells prepare for a Busy Summer
Bluebells at Brunswood Farm in Spondon, Derbyshire, are preparing for a busy Summer period. Bluebells have a variety of activities planned for children, adults and their regular café customers throughout the Summer season. The star attraction will be a Maize Megamaze that the Brown family have been planting and preparing over the past months to entertain families visiting the farm. The Maize Megamaze has been developed with a circus theme and incorporates the Bluebells logo within the design. Children and adults have been invited to work their way through the Maize Megamaze and try to find the crafty clowns who were mistakenly (or perhaps not!) left behind by the circus. The Brown family have asked for help to rescue the farm from the clowns and send them back to the circus! Quiz sheets are given to every person entering the Maize Megamaze. Bluebells have created this green tourist attraction to extend their café and farm shop area; ensuring that the café area is large enough to comfortably accommodate regular customers and families during the busy Summer holiday period. The Maize Megamaze has been grown on a 5 acre field and the maize will be harvested for use as cattle fodder when the Summer season ends leaving no trace of the Summer activity. Cube launches Treats and Tots Programme
Cube café/bar in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter is launching a weekly pamper programme for mums of young children and pregnant women. Treats and Tots sessions will be held every Tuesday morning from 11am onwards at Cube which is part of Déda (formerly known as Derby Dance) in Chapel Street. Customers can sit back and enjoy the new summer lunch menu as well as free manicures and massages courtesy of students from East Midlands School of Beauty while their children play in the café‟s child-friendly area.. Déda Catering Manager Catherine Ward explained: “We are extremely popular with young families who appreciate the child-friendly space available and the easy access for prams and buggies. “The Treats and Tots programme is therefore to thank existing customers for their loyalty to us and also to encourage other mums and mums to be to join in the fun, meet new people and enjoy a spot of well deserved pampering.” For more information, contact Cube on 370911 or visit the website www.deda.uk.com/cube

Derby's spectacular FREE festivalDerby Festé returns on 24th-26th September. Already recognised as one of the most spectacular weekend festivals of its kind, this year‟s Derby Festé promises to bring some of the very best outdoors acts in the world to the streets of Derby. The three-day festival will bring a variety of international and local artists together for a feast of eyepopping live performances which will both “stimulate the senses, and take your breath away”. Since Derby Festé first appeared, we‟ve seen fire-breathing dragons roaming the streets, daring aerial acrobatics, and the entire city centre brought to life by street parties and live bands. The theme for this year is “Colour & Light” and will get under way on Friday 24 th with a magnificent Luminarium on the recently landscaped Cathedral Green and an outdoor disco in the city‟s market place. The undoubted highlight will be the internationally acclaimed percussion and pyrotechnics act, Les Commandos Percu, who will help to make the city rock with a choreographed performance in front of thousands in the Bass Recreation Ground on Saturday 25th. Join them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter for the latest news, offers and announcements. www.derbyfeste.com info@lotsfortots.co.uk

entertainment… right on your doorstep!
Parks are a budgeting mums number one summer activity option... Local parks are an absolute lifeline for all parents for the following 2 reasons: they are free and open all year round …hurray. Usually empty of big kids on a weekday, they are generally well maintained by the council, safe, they help your little one expend loads and loads of energy and they usually have a bench for you to rest your weary feet. They are also lots of fun. Don‟t ever let the weather put you off. Get wellies and an all in one rain thingy (for baby not for you, you would look really stupid no matter how practical!) and brave it anyway. Children are so much better behaved when they have run off their excess energy and got some fresh air and it will perk you up too if you are having a down day. Parks are also a good place for them and you to make new friends, pick leaves for pictures, jump in puddles, have races, practice on bikes etc. Magical. Even if your baby isn‟t yet walking a little swing and a play in the sandpit as well as seeing other children play is great stimulation. As they get bigger a flask and a book (for you of course!) aren‟t a bad idea.

If your park isn‟t the business get campaigning to your MP or anyone who will listen. If you want to comment on your local park go check out www.greenstat.org.uk. GreenSTAT is a system that gives people the opportunity to comment on the quality of their open spaces and how well they feel they are being managed and maintained . Writing and complaining to a local paper can often help too. Do take action as your local park is going to be a vital part of your life for the next few years!

Designer Kidz - Less Cost
Please mention Lots for Tots when contacting an advertiser Lots for Tots talks to the founder of kidzcatwalk.com. A 33 year old working Mum, Emma Hill has a 4 year old son & lives in Derbyshire with her family.
As a working mother, I have understand the importance of value labels as I find they the most attention to detail and wear for money and when my little one was a baby we spent a small fortune on designer baby wear which, more often than not was left in the wardrobe for that “special occasion”. By the time Alex had grown out of the item it had only been worn a handful of times, I recognised I was not alone in this situation and that 1000‟s of hardworking families where in the same situation. The price of children‟s designer clothes keeps rising and even though i still love them i cannot bring myself to pay all that money which is why I came up with this idea. Most of the items I buy/sell are French
really well. The items I purchase are ones that have only been worn a couple of times or new last season items. They are then professionally cleaned, checked and approved for re-sell, retagged and wrapped in tissue/or fully gift wrapped. I only sell clothes that are of the finest condition and would be happy to see my children in. I only sell the best quality and most desirable brands. My long term goal is to roll this principle out to Maternity wear, Children‟s nursery furniture and designer travel items, bugaboo etc.
EACH ITEM HAS ITS WEAR STATUS & FINATE CONDITION, ALL OF THE BEST QUALITY & MOST DESIRABLE BRANDS INC: CATIMINI, PAMPOLINA, DKNY, QUICKSILVER, BENCH, ABERCROMBIE & FITCH, GUESS PLUS LOTS MORE ALL AT HIGH STREET PRICES!!
