How to choose a baby swim school? Swimming is one of the few things your baby can do from birth, and as well as being fantastic for them, it’s also one of the healthiest activities for you too. Teaching babies to swim from birth is a skilled profession, requiring considerable in-depth knowledge and the right environment for babies. Here are some key things to consider: Water Temperature: Babies and young toddlers should not swim in pools less than 30 degrees C and young babies under 12 weeks should not be in a pool under 32 degrees C, even with a wetsuit on. At Water Babies all of our pools in Notts and Derbys are carefully chosen to be above these levels. Training: Teachers should be specifically trained in the delivery of baby and toddler lessons to be both properly insured and technically correct in what they teach. Water Babies teachers are experts taking 6

months to train on all aspects of baby and toddler swimming. Structure: Some classes will simply get your child used to the pool with some songs and rhymes while others are more structured with more planned lessons. In Water Babies classes you will always learn something new each week that builds on what you have learned before. Fun: Baby swimming is a relaxing and enjoyable activity, perfectly designed to enhance the parent/child bond. In classes, the emphasis should always be on evolving at your child’s own pace, and on both of you having fun with skills adapted to suit you and your child’s ability and confidence.

Mini Movers Dance Classes with Melody Bear Melody Movement Early learning is a unique dance curriculum for pre-school children. It is tailored to discovering and fulfilling the potential of each child, nurturing their creative development with fun classes in music and movement, ballet and tap dancing.

Derby & Nottingham Sling Library Sling hire and support at all stages of your babywearing journey If, like many new parents, you are considering using a Sling or baby carrier for you little one, it can be a bit of a minefield deciding on which one is best for you. You may have done your research already and read up about all the benefits of babywearing and may even have a shortlist of possible options but how do you choose?

That’s where Derby & Nottingham Sling Library come in, we are a not for profit, volunteer run organisation that specialises in supporting people to find a carrier that works for them. When you come along to one of our meets, out team of trained babywearing consultants and peer supporters are on hand to help you. We hold 10-12 Sling meets per month across Derby and Nottinghamshire so there’s bound to be one not too far away.

What happens at a Sling Meet?

All our sessions are run on a drop in basis so you don’t have to be there for the whole meet or even be there for the start. We operate a sign in sheet and generally see people on a first come, first served basis. You can get advice on what carriers are suitable for what ages and stages, try out our carriers to see what suits you, get advise on how to use your own Sling if you have one already and hire ours to take away and road test in real life to make sure it’s right for you. Sling hire costs just £10 a month with a £30 refundable deposit so it a really affordable way to try before you buy! Our meets in Derbyshire are:
