And where do I start! It’s another bumper issue packed with so much fab information for families! Hopefully the warmer weather is on its way and we can start to come out of our winter hibernation and get out and about to all the amazing events and attractions in the local area, especially with all those Bank Holidays! There is a special section on parties and given that I have been through the process of planning a certain little man’s birthday, recently I know just how stressful it can be finding ideas for stress-free celebrations. I’ve also had some amazing news! I’ve been shortlisted for national awards in the ‘Franchisee of the Year 2016’ category! Now it’s done to the public vote so if you could spare a minute to do so I would be incredibly grateful. Full details are on page 28. The next issue is out in July - see you then!

Notts County Show Returns for 133rd Year! Lots of treasures to be discovered at the 2016 Nottinghamshire County Show! Treasure trails, interactive workshops, farmyard friends and lots more will be on offer for families this May at the Nottinghamshire County Show. Organisers of the show are inviting families to pre-book tickets to the popular annual event and prepare for a fun-filled weekend of extreme sports, live music, urban free runners, cookery demonstrations and even a field gun display. The much-loved show returns to Newark Showground on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May and as always will offer entertainment and attractions for all ages come rain or shine with a mix of indoor and outdoor events. Jayne Olney, show manager of the Nottinghamshire County Show, said: “2016 will mark the county show’s 133rd year and every year it grows in both size and diversity. We look forward to welcoming visitors in May and providing two full days of jam-packed fun.” There will be more than 1,000 animals around the showground over the course of the weekend with pony, sheep, pig, goat and cow classes. But when the animals are not showing, families will be able to see them up close and personal in their holding areas. In the Main Ring the Portsmouth Action Field Gun Display will demonstrate athleticism with its competitive Field Gun runs to amaze the crowds across both days of the show. All ages will enjoy Inspire Shows, showing agility, body power and strength as they co-ordinate a free running routine in the George Stevenson Exhibition Hall with runners flipping 4

and leaping through the air - across any obstacle in their path! BMX Flatland bike breakdancing will perform fast floor spins and an array of tricks in the Lincs FM performance Ring. Young visitors can also try out a BMX workshop and other interactive opportunities in between the shows. Along with bike breakdancing, dance groups, gymnastic clubs, circus skills and Taekwondo displays will take place in the George Stevenson building. The sound of music will fill the showground as the music marquee returns with jazz quintets, ukulele bands and more. Tickets cost £15 on the gates or £10 for advance tickets online. Under 17’s go free and parking is free. Advance tickets are available to book by telephone 01636 705796 or online via the website.

Skegness Seasiders returning this spring! These colourful characters will be travelling up and down the seafront, from 19th March... Just one big happy family! Find out more about fostering with Nottinghamshire County Council.... Lillian and Tony Britton were first approved as foster carers in 1979 – and over the past 37 years they have cared for children and young people of various ages at their Stapleford home. Lillian, 69, and Tony, 71, have recommended fostering to many of their friends and family. “Fostering is hard work but it’s so rewarding on many different levels and we both agree the joys far outweigh the tears,” Lillian said. “It’s absolutely lovely to see the young people we have helped over the years invite us to their weddings and christenings; Tony was even asked to walk one of our earliest

placements down the aisle.” Tony adds: “Lillian and I feel our job is to boost the young people, build up their confidence and teach them some life skills that will hold them in good stead later in life.” The couple feel their long service is testament to many happy years as foster carers to “some absolutely delightful children”.

Making Tennis Fun with ‘Tots Tennis’! A great way to introduce little ones to tennis in a fun and encouraging way...

Tennis 4 All based at Caunton Tennis Club near Newark prove that age should be no barrier to learning the game. They offer much more than just tennis; by encouraging children to grow in confidence and build their selfesteem through fun sports. Their ‘Tots Tennis’ programme is for children ages 2-4 years and incorporates child development and learning with games and skills. The coaches lable tennis Bouncy aim to improveCastles children’s tennis whilst developing key skills including counting, & Sweet Carts colour recognition, agility, balance, coordination and body awareness. All

sessions are run by a fully licensed coach with (DBS) clearance. Regular weekly sessions are held at Caunton, Balderton and Coddington. Tennis 4 All also run holidays camps at Easter and during the summer for youngsters, both as full and half day sessions, which are a great way to keep them active over the school break .

I found very little in the local area so travelled to Nottingham to take part in the wonderful Baby Sensory classes run there. It was the highlight of our week and no two weeks were the same! Splashy Beginnings to Swimming Superstar! It’s never too early to start swimming with your baby in Water Babies’ extra warm pools... Water Babies classes are a great way to give your little one confidence in the water. And the good news is that there’s no minimum age to start your baby swimming. They don’t need to have had any immunisations before they go. “Just half an hour’s swimming will provide your baby or toddler with a complete work out,” says Marie Smith who runs Water Babies classes across the Nottinghamshire area. “They’ll be exercising muscles they’d never even find on land! Swimming is great for enhancing their confidence and

awareness, as well as helping to improve eating and sleeping patterns - a definite bonus!” “Swimming with your baby is a great way to play and is fantastic for strengthening the bond between the two of you.
