We speak to PANDAS Nottingham about postnatal depression and the help available locally... “With more than 1 in every 10 women suffering from some sort of postnatal depression within a year of giving birth, it’s a much more common than most people would think. And the expectation for new mums to be joyful at the arrival of their little one can often make it difficult to come to terms that things aren’t ok and to ask for help. Many new mums feel a bit down, tearful or anxious in the first week after giving birth, especially given the shock to the system of hormones getting back on track and the sudden lack of sleep! This is often called the “baby blues” and is so common that it’s considered normal. However these shouldn’t last for more than two weeks after giving birth so if your symptoms last longer or start later, you could have postnatal depression.
