Encourage your child to love reading this summer at your local library! We all know that children’s reading can ‘dip’ during the long school holidays. But the annual Summer Reading Challenge, created by national charity The Reading Agency, gets a whopping three quarters of a million children into libraries each summer, keeping up their reading skills and confidence. If your child’s aged between 4 and 11, there’s a summer adventure waiting for them as soon as school finishes. The theme for the 2016 Summer Reading Challenge is The Big Friendly Read, linking up with the global, yearlong Roald Dahl 100 celebrations to honour the world’s No.1 storyteller. It will feature some of Roald Dahl’s best-loved characters – giants, cats, ghosts and many more – together with the amazing artwork of his principal illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake. Invention, mischief and friendship are all topics explored in both Roald Dahl’s books and The Big Friendly Read, which will encourage children to expand their reading by exploring similar themes across the best contemporary writing for kids. But they can read whatever they like to complete the Summer Reading Challenge – including fact books, joke
books, picture books, audio books – just as long as they are borrowed from the library. Every time your child finishes a book they’ll get stickers and rewards and there’s a certificate for everyone who completes the Summer Reading Challenge. It is open to children of all reading abilities - sign up at your local library as the school summer term ends and the holidays begin. There’s no charge to participate so why not pop down to your library? Because everything changes when you read Derbyshire Libraries are planning a busy summer full of fun activities inspired by The Big Friendly Read. Check the Summer Reading website at www.derbyshire.gov. uk/summerreadingchallenge for details of all the fun events in store. The fun kicks off on Saturday 16th July at Chesterfield Library with the launch of the challenge and a Family Fun Day! There are events planned at libraries across the county, so why not pop along and get inspired!

Celebrating 10 Years of Twistin Tots Music, Movement and Fun for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers When Jacqui launched her first class in June 2006, little did she imagine that 10 years on she would be running 13 classes per week across 6 locations! To celebrate its 10th Birthday, Twistin Tots is holding a FREE Fun Day on 16th July. With face painting, LOTS of arts and crafts, music and musical activities, tombola, lots of toys to play with, free drinks, a cake stall, raffle & children’s entertainer it’s sure to be a fantastic
day & all are welcome! And the next 10 years are set to be as exciting as the first as yet more locations will be welcoming Jacqui and her team, with new classes planned from September sharing the Twistin Tots fun with a whole new audience! NEW Classes in Alfreton & Wingerworth from September. Contact info@twistintots.co.uk or Ad5.pdf 1 16/06/2016 07977TwistinTots-LfT60x90 578359 for details.
