H
ello, I am Dee Bagnall your Lots for Tots Editor in North Birmingham & Walsall. I am so excited to be launching this magazine and as a mother of three children I know how difficult it can be juggling work and home life as well as spending quality time with the children. I cannot believe the great response we have received from parents as well as advertisers. Lots for Tots is a definitive guide to playgroups, places to visit, exciting clubs and child friendly events which are taking place across the area. If you would like free copies of the magazine for your Business, Nursery, Playgroup, Health Centre, Children Centre or Pre School then please do get in touch with us.

Why Sutton Dolphins?
S
utton Dolphins holistic approach to baby swimming, recognises that every child is an individual and learns at a different pace. Just as in life. Why start so young? Fact: Drowning is the second largest killer of children in western countries. We spend all year looking forward to our holidays where we can sit back relax and have fun. Most holidays are by the
15
sea or with the use of a swimming pool. By joining in our swimming stages you can learn a life saving skill whilst teaching your child how to be safe in and around the water. The most important element in the learning process for young children is to get enjoyment and fun out of the each activity they part take in. Michelle & Sue - Sutton Dolphins

Jo Jingles Sutton Coldfield Under New Management
E
mily Earley has attended Jo Jingles classes herself over the past 3 years with her own daughters so she is thrilled to now be taking over the Sutton Coldfield franchise (formally known as Jo Jingles Walsall) on 11th April 2014. Jo Jingles is the UK’s largest pre-school singing, music and movement group. Emily is expanding the existing classes and will be running Saturday classes and Summer workshops. Emily and ‘Jo’ will be teaching together with trained class teachers Becky, Naomi and Claire. Brand new class programmes are being launched which include music theory for the 3-5 age group. Exciting new instruments, props and visuals will also be introduced into all classes. Introducing music at an early age helps the development of language, numeracy, physical co-ordination and communication skills in young children.
16
Jo Jingles gives a fun introduction to music through the use of songs, nursery rhymes, percussion instruments, movement and dance, not forgetting the character who children adore ‘Jo Jingles’. Classes are suitable for babies and children from 3 months to 5 years and last 45 minutes. They are structured according to age, and introduce different educational themes every week. Jo Jingles also run sessions in nursery and playgroup settings and parties also are available.
For class timetables or to book your Free Taster session, contact Emily on 07792 065001 or email; jojingles suttoncoldfield@yahoo.co.uk find us on Facebook.

The benefits of Pre-School As the name implies, a pre-school is an educational setting for 3 and 4 year old children, before they start Reception. Many parents select this option because it is a structured environment with lessons that will ready their children for attending school. Pre-school will provide the type of activities and lessons that enhance and develop a child’s ability to become successful at the next level. This means preparing the children for academic readiness by teaching letters, numbers, and shapes, and designing age-appropriate social activities that stimulate self-esteem and encourage social and emotional maturity. Cognitive development Care is taken to help children improve their cognitive and motor abilities through various fun activities, while at the same time make them appreciate basic concepts in Maths, language and nature. Structured learning Pre-schools provide a structured learning environment with exact timings and an organised curriculum. However, this does not mean that it’s not fun - knowledge and skills are developed through play and creative activities. Poetry and singing provide the building blocks needed to grasp phonics and reading skills later.
Creative play with a purpose Playing with water, sand and containers forms the foundation for understanding some basic Maths concepts. Matching, sequencing and one-to-one correspondence are all activities that are carried out over and over again in pre-school settings and help children get ready to learn more complex subjects. Developing social skills Interacting with other children means learning how to wait, how to take turns, and how to listen. Watching other children pursue a challenging task is also helpful. Most importantly, children in education from age 3 learn how to socialise with their peers, manage stress and solve problems. Pre-School at Lichfield Cathedral School The Pre-School children attending Lichfield Cathedral School benefit from dedicated facilities at the Longdon site, surrounded by beautiful Staffordshire countryside. Children are taught in small groups with a high adult to pupil ratio. The strong academic programme is supported by exceptional pastoral care in a nurturing environment, founded on Christian values. As Headmaster, David Corran, confirms: “The PreSchool is incredibly important is it underpins the foundation of each child’s learning journey through our unique and magnificent school.”
