Lots for Tots North Derbyshire
Welcome to Issue 20...
Wow 2019...how did that happen?! It really is true what they say about the days being long and the years short. Hopefully with this edition we can shorten some of those days for you! There’s lots to keep you busy in this edition through the winter months and during half term with lots of events happening throughout our county. Buxton Opera House are showing Bing Live which is sure to be a big hit and an ideal introduction to the theatre. A number of weekly classes have also added extra sessions such as Little Learners in Chesterfield, whilst Helen at Tiny Talk continues to deliver a number of sessions right across the region. Don’t forget to take a look at what groups are happening in your area. Helen Rowan has provided our beautiful front cover, showcasing her style of photography, and has also provided an inspiring article for anyone considering taking the leap into self employment themselves. Don’t forget to mention Lots for Tots when using our advertisers, so that we can keep bringing our fab little magazine to you! Look out for our Insta/Facebook pages and our new newsletter with information in between magazines and a look at family life behind Lots for Tots. See you all in Spring!

Wingerworth Wonder Years Here at Wingerworth Wonder Years we put our Children First We work hard to give each child as many opportunities as possible to pursue their own interests, and to reach their full potential. Our children have a fun-packed day covering a wide range of activities, designed to encourage confidence, independence and to build on their natural curiosity. We believe that the education of a child should be a partnership between parents and a childcare provider. Nursery and family life should be complementary,
working to the same end and helping each child grow into a well-rounded person. At Wingerworth Wonder Years, we encourage children to develop into happy and confident individuals with a strong sense of social awareness, in readiness for more formal learning, while also giving them a thirst for the educational adventure that lie ahead. Call and see us anytime to experience the warm, homely environment we provide. www.chesterďŹ eldchildcare.co.uk/ new-road-nursery

Living The Dream My top tips for making the leap into self-employment by Helen Rowan creater of the beautiful front cover. I’m truly passionate about photography & running my own business. I hope the lessons I’ve learnt over the last few years could help any mum who wants to leave the rat-race & set up on their own. Until 2015, I worked in the fashion industry, designing prints for high-street womenswear brands. After having kids, I faced problems which will be familiar to many – the stress of going part time, the guilt of being the first to drop my kids off at nursery, & the huge nursery bills! My kids were over-tired, & I was stuck in a daily drudge. My constant thought was that there must be another way! Then I borrowed a camera & quickly became obsessed with taking photos of my kids. From there I had a life-changing idea… this could be my new life! So here are my top tips for anyone wanting to build their own creative business... 1. Perfect your Skills - From the first day that I bought my DSLR, I lived & breathed photography, investing in quality training & driving my friends & family nuts with requests for endless practice photoshoots & feedback. I felt like I’d found my true passion and nothing was going to hold me back. I took my camera everywhere and my energy was boundless. 2. Expect to work hard - I wasn’t sure if I was going to be brave enough to leave the nine-to-five. However, I worked hard for six months developing my photography dream alongside my day job. I edited into the night & saved the money that I’d earnt from photography. I eventually saved enough & handed in my notice. I reinvested
early profits & I found my beautiful studio at West Studios, & continued to do as much as I could around preschool hours. When my youngest started school, I felt like all the effort had been worthwhile. 3. Identify what’s unique about you - My customers come to me for my personal, high-quality service. It’s important for me to create something specific to the family that I’m working with, whether that’s a newborn session in a family home or a large, family outdoor portrait session. Over time, I’ve developed a unique and successful natural style that fits perfectly with my relaxed, friendly & calm personality. I’m so grateful to my loyal customers who really appreciate my work &, honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I’ve got a lot of ambitions for 2019. However, the most important thing will always be that I can continue to drop off & pick up my kids from school. That’s what I mean when I tell people I’m living the dream.
