A B O U T LOTTA LOV E S M AG A Z I N E Welcome to Whole LOTTA LOVES Magazine! I´m Lotta and I’ve been making this magazine about things that is close to my heart and that I love. Thereof the name LOTTA LOVES. But it’s also a play with the title to the Led Zeppelin song Whole Lotta Love (originally Willie Dixons You Need Love). In this magazine you can read about interior design, clothing style, food, art, travel and much more. I’m a visual being and that is why there are more pictures than text in LOTTA LOVES, hope you f ind some eye candy!

I’m not sponsored by any of the companys that I link to. And all photographs are taken by me. I describe myself as an incurable romantic with a punk heart. And how does that f it together? Isn’t that a contradiction? Maybe. But for me life is both black and white, with a touch of pink! Do you want to know more about me? I’m a photographer and f ilmmaker and at mayalee.se you can read about me and see my work.

ABOUT THIS ISSUE 01 |

I LOVE the spring! I don’t think I ever longed for Spring as much as I do this year! When I’m writing this it is a couple of degrees minus and we are in the middle of March. They say that in Sweden Spring is delayed by 3 weeks! What I really long for is to sit outside on the porch with a cup of coffee and let the spring sun warm my face. I’m longing to be able to use my studio again, it’s not winter isolated so it’s still freezing in there. I’m longing to take a ride on my motorcycle, nothing makes me feel so free. And put on my sneakers! Oh what I longing for that. I realize now when I’m writing that Spring is a lot about longing, for the cherry blossoms to bloom, that nature and myself to be awaken again. It is a lot about new beginnings. Have you ever fell down a rabbit hole? I have! At the Hidden Places workshop I fell… And how sweet it was! Read all about it at page 56. Happy Easter & Spring! xoxo Lotta

Why did you buy a summer cottage?

What’s your favorite spot in the house?

My life consisted of being available 24 hours for my work place. My boss said I had to get myself a hobbie and then I went to spontaneously buy myself a cottage that demanded some passion, a pretty expensive spontaneous purchase though!

It varies from time to time but at the moment I am very fond of the long bed upstairs. We usually sleep there sometimes instead of in the double bed, because it is so cozy to lie with the cold feet’s to each other.

What do you think your cottage (and/or) interior design says about you? It probably represents me more in the process than the style itself, although I admire the furniture and wallpaper in chinoiserie. I love to see the potential that others overlook, just f ind a spark of inspiration and then execute. That’s how my whole life looks like.

Do you have any tips on what to do/see in your neighbourhood? There is a fantastic restaurant, Katrinelund, besides Hjälmaren shore which is always surprising with amazing food from local producers. We also live next door to an organic vegetable farmer so every Wednesday and Saturday it is a pleasure to trade the vegetables of the week.

Play around with contrast colors. Don’t be afraid to test new combinations.

Your best 3 top interior design tips/ideas?

Whats your favorite thing to do at your cottage.

1. Look at a few pictures that appeal to you emotionally and let them be the thread that combines the style all the way. 2. Get some humoristic details, a home should be relaxed and joyful. 3. Feel that you can be relaxed in your needs, is it rest keep it light and scaled, is it inspiration paint with colors.

Cook food, eat it outdoors and renovate smaller projects so you can see the results before you go home.

Can you tell me a bit more about the cottage? How old is it? Do you know anything about the history etc? All we know is that the cottage was registered in 1890 when the goverment registering all the properties in Sweden. But probably it’s older than that.

Tell me a bit about the renovation you have done so far. When I bought the cottage, all rooms looked like a sauna with wood panels on both the wall and the ceiling. So we spent a lot of time painting indoors, building a bed and painting the west side of the house. Then, of course, bought on f lea markets until my eyes bleed, have barely visited a f lea market the last year . Whats the next thing to renovate/or do at the cottage? We will build a patio with the spirit of an orangerie cause we have over 30 windows waiting for us. Then it will be painted outdoors and renovate the indoor f ire place, cozy!

YUMMY RHUBARB CAKE

We kids took some directly from the garden and ate, but it was often very sour. If we were lucky we sometimes got a cup of sugar to dip the rhubarbs in… That would never happened to day, right? ;-) This rhubarb recipe comes from one of my favourite photographer and stylist Linda Lomelino. The recipe can be found in her book Sweet food & photography. It is an amazing book with recipes and styling and photography tips. I LOVE her photography! My sister now live in our grandparents house and that is where these rhubarbs are from. Now our daughters can enjoy all yummy rhubarb and maybe some day our grandchildren if we have some, get similar childhood memories that we have. ENJOY!

RHUBARB CAKE (8-10 SERVINGS)

INGREDIENTS 1 1/4 cups (180 g) all purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp cardamom seeds, freshly ground pinch of salt 100 g (1 scant stick) softened butter 1 scant cup (200 g / 225 ml) granulated sugar 1 large egg, at room temperature 1/4 tsp vanilla powder or 1 tsp vanilla sugar 1/2 cup milk, at room temperature 150 g rhubarb, washed, trimmed and cut in 5 cm (2 inch) pieces 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar To serve Powdered sugar Whipped cream if desired DIRECTIONS 1. Heat oven to 175° (350°F). Grease a pie pan or springform pan (22-25 cm / 8-10 inches). 2. Mix flour, baking powder, cardamom and salt in a bowl. Set aside. 3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and creamy, about 4 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. 4. Fold in the flour mixture and the milk in additions, and stir with a spatula until combined. Pour the batter in the prepared pan. 5. Place the pieces of rhubarb in a pattern on the cake. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top. 6. Bake the cake for 10 minutes, then lower the heat to 150°C (300°F) and bake for an additional 40-50 minutes or until cake is golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean.

My grandparents had a lot of rhubarbs in their garden. Grandma made cream, soup, pie, cake and lemonade out of rhubarb.

WHEN I FELL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

When I was a child I build hidden worlds. I was building them out in the garden, tiny tiny places, in the hedge, the grass was like forests and the Lily of the valleys was like big trees.I built different worlds in my imagination, I’ve always been a kind of “heads in the clouds” person. I draw my hidden places on paper and I photographed them out in the woods, yep, I was a very creative child. And I use to say that it was that who saved me and got me through some diff icult times during my childhood and when I was growing up. I loved fantasy literature, I devoured The Lord Of The Rings trilogy and when I was reading Alice in Wonderland again with my daughter we laughed so hard and it was so wonderful to be joined together in this fantastic and magic hidden place.

And one day, the 22th of March 2018 to be precise, I fell down the rabbit hole… And how sweet it was! I was hired to do a f ilm about the workshop Hidden Places that Babes in Boyland and Sof ia from Mokkasin was hosting. Can you imagine an entire day with women that are as excited as you? The creativity was f lowing and the hours just past by, but no one was aware about time or the outside world, we were in Wonderland and it was magical! Links to all the amazing women who attended and sponsors at page 60-61.
