SELF-PORTRAIT EXHIBITION 14.9.12.-13.1.13. Louisiana's grand-scale exhibition of the season has extraordinary appeal, allowing us to meet many of the greatest names and truly special profiles of modern art face to face. From Picasso, Kahlo and Dalí to Basquiat and Koons. Opposite page: Egon Schiele, Self-portrait, 1911. (Ernst Ploil, Vienna). Below from left self-portraits by: Jean-Michel Basquiat, 1983 (Collection Ropac). Frida Kahlo, 1945 (Robert Brady Museum, Mexico). Salvador Dalí, 1926-27 (Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí).

At once straightforward and enigmatic, the self-portrait forms the most direct and intimate bond between the artist and ourselves as well as raising a number of intriguing questions. Louisiana’s fascinating presentation assembles more than 60 artists and 150 works. From Picasso, Matisse and Munch to present masters such as Baselitz, Hockney and Richter as well as many important contemporary artists. Self-Portrait is shown in the South Wing and divided into nine themes, e.g. Pioneers, The Artist in the Studio, Mirrors and The Course of Life. Overall, the exhibition takes us on a special and exciting journey through the development of more than a century of modern art. As reflected through the insight and perspective of the very artists who shaped it.

Presenting the new wave in Nordic architecture with models, films, site-specific installations and personal testimonies.

ED KIENHOLZ

Five Car Stud Until 21.10.12. Too controversial to be shown in the US when completed in 1972, Ed Kienholz’ Five Car Stud has just recently resurfaced. This tableau of a racist assault has retained all its provocative and physically insistent power. A masterpiece.

The Exhibitions The international orientation remains an important premise for Louisiana’s exhibitions, contributing to the museum’s status as one of the world’s most respected exhibition venues. The exhibition programme focuses on international, modern and contemporary art as well as international photo, design and architecture shows. The Collection The museum’s collection is among the largest in Scandinavia and concentrates on the period after 1945. Includes major works by Picasso, Giacometti, Klein, Warhol, Rauschenberg, Bourgeois, Guston, Jorn, Baselitz, Kiefer and Kirkeby. The Architecture The architectural design of Louisiana is considered a unique achievement, rooted in the low-key modernism of the 1950s. The appearance of the museum is that of a subdued, horizontal building complex discreetly nestling into the landscape. The Sculpture Park Louisiana is surrounded by a sculpture park with a panoramic view of the Øresund. The sculptures in the park are an important part of the museum’s collection,

and each is carefully placed to do it full justice. Feature works by Moore, Miro, Calder, Ernst, Arp, Sekine and Dubuffet. The Louisiana Children’s Wing Three storeys, covering 500 square metres and offering a place of refuge where children are given exceptional opportunities to work creatively, utilizing their senses and imagination. With a large, wellassorted book department carrying catalogues and posters as well as books on art, design and architecture. The Louisiana CafE Boasts a panoramic view of the Øresund and an outdoor terrace used during the summer months.
