letter WHY THE AMAZON MATTERS? It is really disappointing to see the carelessness and the jokes I’ve heard and read about the Amazon rainforest fires. A lot of Egyptians think that it is totally out of context to follow the news of the amazon fires and take it seriously because in Egypt we have much bigger problems to consider that deserve the headlines. Actually, the whole issue is not quite far from last issue’s article about the misbalance we caused to the environment, which resulted in the appearance of fatal species of snakes in New Cairo. God created the universe with precious and very accurate calculations that everything and every creature is connected. Without getting into a lot of scientific and environmental facts; to put it in the simplest form, the Amazon rainforest is a home to three million species of plants and animals, the vast rain forest is the most bio-diverse region on the planet. Some 400 billion trees absorb millions of tons of carbon dioxide every year, crucial to slowing climate change, and emit about 6 percent of Earth’s

oxygen. These trees also respire moisture, pulling fresh water from the ground and cycling it into the air, creating one of the atmospheric “rivers” of moisture that regulate rainfall across the planet. Rainfall in the American Midwest; for example, heavily depends on water coming from the Amazon. Over the past half century, one-fifth of the rain forest, 300,000 square miles, an area larger than Texas, has been deforested. Scientists say if another 10 percent is lost, the ecosystem will reach a tipping point at which it will dry up irreversibly, converting the entire remaining rain forest into a savannah. The consequences for the planet could be devastating. So, all these effects will have an impact on Egypt and its weather. If only we could perceive the fact that we are part of this universe, the way we look to the environment and to those global issues will be of much interest to us than celebrity breakups and gossips.

The longtime couple, who started dating in 1995 and married in 1997, sat down for a candid talk on a 2018 episode of her Red Table Talk Facebook Watch show. Almost a year later, Pinkett Smith reflected on the impact of that episode while appearing on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “What was really important about Will and I doing that show together two things: First of all was really to kind of get rid of the idea that people in the public eye have perfect relationships,” Pinkett Smith, 47, explained. “We were kind of sick of living up to that. We were real sick of it. And then second of all, really having myself and Will come and talk about our relationship sometimes you see just women do it alone or you just see a guy do it.”

‘Instinct’ Canceled After 2 Seasons by CBS

Reese Witherspoon heads to Netflix for bonkers-sounding sci-fi film Pyros

A new sci-fi film is heading to Netflix and it comes with Big Little Lies star Reese Witherspoon and one wild story courtesy of The New Yorker writer Thomas Pierce. Pyros, which Witherspoon will also produce, is based on Pierce’s short story “Tardy Man,” published in The New Yorker in 2018. It follows a group of people augmented with indestructible suits that are fitted to their spines. They are then paid by a corporation to recover objects for wealthy people when their houses catch fire. This team has strict orders not to stray from their mission, but things take a turn when one of these fire trekkers breaks the rule. Pierce returns to write the screenplay. According to Deadline, Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg will produce Pyros based on a screenplay by Pierce.

Series creator Michael Rauch broke the news on his Twitter account that CBS has canceled “Instinct” after two seasons. “I’m very sad to relay the news that @instinctcbs won’t be renewed for a 3rd season. Endless thanks to @Alancumming & @bojnovak for making Dylan & Lizzie more everything than I could have ever hoped & thanks to our incredible crew, cast, writers, producers & all who helped make our show, with respect, talent & kindness. And a giant thank you to our diehard fans for your love, loyalty & excellent taste (is it too soon to ask for a reboot?) @TVdub @SirWilliamHowe,” Novakovic responded to the news herself, writing: “Love to all our fans and the most incredible cast and crew. Tell us more about you… I graduated from MSA University, Journalism and Mass Communication major, I am 30 years old and my sign is Aries. How did your passion for fashion come about? I have always had passion for fashion, but it all started when I started working out regularly during university when I discovered that there’s a shortage in sportswear brands in Egypt. We have grown up having the same few brands, and so, you get to see how everyone have similar looks, and only a few have different sportswear because they shop from abroad. Why did you choose sportswear in particular? I started with few sketches and the passion grew more with the support of my family. Were you influenced by your father KungFu champion Youssef Mansour’s passion for sports? I was surely influenced by my father’s love for sports. He has always been pushing my sister and I to follow a healthy life style. My mother had always worked out too and taught me a lot about fashion and colours. Did you ever consider acting? I was offered few roles before, but I’m not thinking about acting at least for the time being. I believe so much in what I’m currently doing and I am working on expanding my business and that’s my main concern for now. Apart from hitting the gym, is there a certain sport you master? I work out almost 5 times a week at the gym, but I also love practicing yoga and pole fitness. How do you manage to compete with famous sportswear brands? I am not really competing with other brands in the market, my designs are different from what’s available, but I still like to check new materials that they use.

Describe Monni-K’s ideal customer… My customers vary in shape, age, and style. Each customer is unique and has different needs. I try to meet their needs by developing my designs. A lot of celebrities were spotted wearing Monni-K, would you share with us some of the names? Salma Abu Deif, Emy Salem, Hend Reda, Menna Arfa, Noha El Sherbiny, Tanya, Sara Taha, Aya el Kolaly, Israa Galal and Sarah Abd El Moneim. And who are the celebrities you dream of dressing from Egypt or abroad? I wish to dress all the Egyptian celebrities first, it’s always an honour to be known in my country. Which fabrics do you use? I use fabrics that are breathable, dry fit, durable, and soft on the skin. Fabrics that make you feel comfortable and still look good in an intense workout. What is the biggest challenge you encounter when putting your designs into life? My biggest challenge is the sampling part. Mostly, a design needs more than two or three samples to get it right. Are there plans for expanding regionally? I am working on introducing men’s sportswear, which will be launched soon. After that, I will be working on kids’ sportswear. Where can people find Monni-K designs? We mostly sell online Instagram: @monnikofficial Facebook: @monnikofficial Website : www. Monni-k.com We also sell in few yoga and pole fitness studios like @themalaeg

OMNEYA ABDEL MONEIM

THE BEAUTY EXPERT mira Thar wat talks to A certified KEC Teacher, Omneya Abdel Moneim about the latest trends in eyebrows Microblading, the BB glow and permanent makeup..

Tell us more about you… To start off, I’m a scorpio. Don’t be fooled by the rumors, Scorpios are highly loyal and generally feel things on a much deeper level than the other signs until someone disappoints us or betrays our trust. I went to Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen Alexandria (DSBA). If you’re from Alexandria, you’d know that the DSBA girls are known for their independence and hard work, the school had a great impact on building my strong personality. After graduating from high-school, I studied Business Marketing. How did your passion for beauty come about? Since I was a little girl, I used to play with my mother’s makeup imagining I’m a professional makeup artist. Everyone is passionate about something, and I am passionate about makeup; I love everything about it. Makeup is something I put my time and effort into doing and perfecting, it is my form of art. I’ve always had the eyebrow game strong. Filling eyebrows was my favourite part in doing someone’s makeup, and this was the beginning in starting my Microblading career. What distinguishes eyebrows Microblading from permanent tattoo? Microblading creates a more natural end result compared to eyebrow tattooing, which results in brows that appear “drawn on” and flat. This

LOUNGE 24

is because the Microblading technique creates individual hair-like strokes that are identical to hair growth pattern of the surrounding eyebrow hair. Tattoo ink is used for eyebrow tattooing while Microblading uses a specialized pigment. Ink differs greatly from pigment in the way it fades over time. As tattoo ink fades, it often develops a blue-green coloured tint, especially around the edges of the tattoo. This can leave people with some oddly coloured eyebrows. In contrast, Microblading pigment is specifically designed to fade into a lighter version of the colour used so, the patient retains a natural appearance. Are there certain cases that Microblading is not applicable to? Microblading isn’t applicable to the ones with permanent tattoo specially the dark ones that fade into blue & grey. Microblading would be impossible for them unless they do tattooremoval sessions. If someone has a permanent tattoo and would like to do Microbloading, what would you advise them to do? And do you have tattoo laser removal sessions? I would advise them to have tattoo-removal sessions first. There are two ways to remove the tattoo. Either with the laser removal method or Rejuvi tattoo removal system; it is a unique

method of tattoo ink extraction to completely remove your tattoo ink pigments from your body. I usually use the Rejuvi in tatto-removal sessions because the laser removal keeps scars in the body and it causes eyebrow hair-loss. The Rejuvi, on the other hand, does not cause any kind of damage to the skin. Rejuvi is designed to completely remove tattoo ink from the body. The tattoo extraction cream blends and captures the tattoo ink. It then transforms into a thicker consistency, which the skin naturally pushes out. How do the shape of the eyebrows look so natural? The shape of the eyebrows looks very natural because the Microblading takes the shape of very fine thin strokes. The shape differs from a person to another because I follow each one’s face dimensions to keep both eyebrows looking similar. Some clients want to do Microblading but are afraid of the hygiene of the products used, how do you respond to that? The products are disposable, the blade itself is disposable and thrown after the session. The tools I use on a client are thrown directly after the session, I open them in-front of the client before the session starts, and everything is sterilized. Between clients my assistant sterilizes the tools that aren’t disposable keeping our clients satisfied with the cleanness.

You also do permanent makeup, what distinguish your style from any other beauty expert’s style? I always like to be different and up to the trend. I like the idea of introducing the permanent makeup industry to Egypt in a different way than others. I also brought bb glow and lip tinting to Egypt. I like to hear my client’s wishes and create them with a touch of my taste. When I see my client’s eyebrows I automatically know what will suit them in the best way. This of course came by my experience in working in this career for years. You applied makeup to many celebrities, would you share with us some of the names? I applied makeup and permanent makeup on many celebrities; Menna Fahmy, Arwa Gouda, Dina El Sherbeiny, Nessreine Emam, Mayan El Sayed, Diana El Zein, Bassma Boussel, Emma Abdelaziz, Zayneb Azzam, Sandy Aly Inas Aly, Suzan Salah Idris, Angham and Yasmine Sabry. Who are the celebrities you wish to apply makeup or do Microblading for? I’ve worked with so many celebrities before, but I’d love to work with more celebrities for instance Mona Zakki, Maya Diab, Cerine Abd El Nour, Nicolle Saba, Haifa Wahbe, Myriam Fares and many more of course. You are one of the few certified KEC teachers in the capital; tell us more about that… Actually, I am the only certified KEC teacher in

Egypt. I am in charge for the KEC Academy in Egypt. The KEC Academy searches for the best Microblading artist in each country so that the one chosen could hold a major role in the academy in his/her country. The person chosen takes the responsibility of teaching people the Microblading techniques in a professional way. The KEC academy chose me, they contacted me to set a meeting, where we discussed everything related to my role in the academy and they taught me specific and special techniques in teaching Microblading. It was an honour to be chosen by the KEC Academy as they are the second best academy in the world. What are your tips to clients who want to do Microblading? What should they look for in the right beauty center? I have several tips for my clients. The most important tip of all is “don’t be fooled by social media.” Marketing and advertising lately have had a great impact on taking decisions these days and sometimes they are a scam. For example, I’ve worked with many celebrities whom I didn’t post pictures of. On the other hand, others get paid to make a certain service just for the sake of posting a picture even though they might not like the work that has been done. Many influencers and celebrities have went to make certain services, which they posted and they gave a shout out to the place or the person they’ve dealt with. And after a week or two they weren’t satisfied with the end result yet,

they’ve had already posted about them and their followers might have already went to that place! They’ve been all scammed. My tip is that you have to make sure that the person you’re trusting should be trustworthy, certified and professional enough so that you could be 100% satisfied with the end result. A lot might fool you by saying that they’re certified while they’ve only been watching YouTube videos about the work they do so, you have to make sure by yourself, and take a look on the certificates and search for the academy that they’re certified from. What are your tips for startups, who want to be professional Microblading experts? Practice! This is something I always tell my students, you have to practice; keep on practicing. There are several things you can practice on like fake skin, plastic models even paper. Practice with a pencil, with a blade, and how to cut on the fake skin. You have to practice a lot before you start doing on real human beings because one mistake can ruin your career. Permanent makeup is not makeup, it won’t be removed with makeup wipes! You have to be good enough in order to start doing on real human beings. Practice, take courses, take more courses and start building your certificate wall. Don’t ever stop taking courses, and keep on learning even if you become one of the most successful in your career.

providing you a convenient atmosphere and a feeling of self-worth.

3 Keeping a personal space ….

It’s healthy that both of you have common interests and activities to do together yet, you still need to have your personal space as well as respect his own personal space. Learn that you both need to enjoy your own activities away from each other at times because you shouldn’t be around one another all the time. This way you will value one another more and miss each other, which will certainly have a greater positive impact on your relationship.

4 Encouragement is a magical wand…

Being proud of your partner and giving him/her a positive push is very important as you help him/her to love himself/herself. Saying I love you without any conditions and without waiting for something in return is a guaranteed way to win his/her heart and keep your relationship shining

and stunning. Nothing is better than accepting the other person without any demands or modifications, which is called unconditional acceptance. That kind of relationship is like a pearl, never let it go.

5 More attention, more love

The more you pay attention to your partner, the more you gain love. Attention is not only caring or buying presents, but it is listening and sharing too. Listen to your partner, be all ears and open heart, and give him/her all the love and support you can. Don’t forget you are his/her comfort zone.

6 Never hide anything …

Your partner is your friend, whom you trust blindly. Don’t hide anything from each other or keep secrets from one another. It’s a wonderful feeling when you feel comfortable telling your partner anything without having second thoughts. Trust is a significant factor for your relation’s success. Being unable or afraid to talk is a silent tumor that can kill your relationship.

ASMA SOLIMAN

A STAR IS BORN fter we saw her on screen presenting Amar 14 T V A programme, and acting in Tarek Lotfy’s T V serial ‘Bein Alameen,’ which was aired a couple of years ago. Amira

Thar wat talks to Egyptian starlet and T V Presenter Asma Soliman, who is back with vengeance this season through a T V programme and a T V serial. We went up-close and personal with the upcoming star to tell us all about her coming projects.

Tell us more about you… I am 32 years old. I studied Mass communication. I am a Libra and single. Are you a typical Libra? Yes, a typical Libra. Although I seem to walk around like I am not easy to approach, I’m a very sociable person on the contrary. I can be too rational and too emotional at the same time, and I don’t know how I do that. I think my major flaw would be that I give it all once I welcome someone into my circle. I take care of those I love and always tend to put their interest above mine. Regardless how dominate my personality could be, I always end up being the victim. But I don’t settle for less than a proper revenge so, watch out. I get too nervous over little details because I’m quite a sensitive soul. I could be sometimes indecisive, but I know my black and white areas very well. How did your participation in Amar 14 TV program come about? At this period of my life, I was kick staring my career. Through some referrals, I went to audition for the tryouts. I remember how amazed the team was by my performance. They didn’t believe it was my very first time, I signed on spot. Why the program stopped? A year later, the whole show felt like it was a loop. The team behind the show wasn’t providing proper content to present to the audience, and my colleagues weren’t cooperative. I felt I will be standing still if I don’t make a move out of the show, it wasn’t going anywhere. I already built a decent base among

my audience, and I couldn’t afford to lose that. It’s hard to work within a certain scoop when you know by heart that you deserve better. There was no potential and I needed to move forward so I did. How were you nominated for your role in ‘Bein Alameen?’ I was offered this role through Tarek Lotfy who is a close friend and a great actor. I truly respect him and appreciate his work. It’s hard to honestly praise someone in our field, but he deserves every word. I was offered a different role at the very beginning but then, due to unfortunate events, we had to switch to another. The one eventually came out to the audience. Are you going to focus more on acting as a career? I actually could say I will only focus on acting for the next period of my life. It has always been a passion for me, and I will never let go of this dream. I’m working on myself everyday to pave my way towards the silver screen. What does your tattoo stand for? Which one? I got several ones. Each one of them has its own background story. My favourites will be the one behind my neck ‘Fezo,’ and at the bottom of both legs ‘07 10,’ which is Fezo’s birth dates. Fezo is my un-biological son if I am allowed to say that, he is my sister’s son and my everything. There’s nothing in this world that I care for and love as much as I do for this kid. He is the apple of my eyes and the gem to my soul. I do whatever it takes to draw a smile on his face. My day doesn’t go through without hearing his voice or seeing his little chubby cheeks. I don’t remember

LOUNGE 29

LOUNGE 30

a single time, where I traveled without buying him gifts he didn’t ask for. You can’t imagine the kind of effort I make trying to convince my sister to leave him for me to raise, but of course, she won’t. And I don’t blame her, I wouldn’t let go of him ever. You wrote in a status I am single because I am overqualified, what causes breakups? Breakup happens when we lose interest in each other, and if one of us stops putting effort into the relationship as much as we used to do when we first met. Also, nowadays, it’s kind of hard to tell who is being true and honest about his feelings and promises as everyone lie to get what they want. A man is not a man without his word. Once he loses this trait, he is no longer a man to me and I cannot help but treat him less. It’s very offensive to all my ex’s to mention publicly, but I haven’t meet someone yet whom I can call a man of his words. I may not be the perfect woman either but at least I’m honest, loyal, and genuine towards my partner. Staying fit is a life motto for you, tell us your routine... There’s no magic tricks here. I’m only committed and consistent towards a healthy approach. I take that into consideration through my life decisions. I don’t smoke or do shisha. I get enough sleep, and hit the gym three times a week. I have my own personal trainer and nutritionist. I mainly focus on over all body composition. I do high interval training sessions focused on core and toning. Regardless of my job that demands certain looks, I’m obsessed over my health and shape especially my face. Who are the actors you hope to act with? With no doubt, Mohammed Ramadan is on the top of the list. He’s taking the field by storm and making waves. I admire his journey and I can’t wait till we collaborate on a project soon. Not rather to mention, Tamer Hosni is another success story and pure example to hard work. It would be a dream coming true to take part in one of his upcoming projects as well. What is the role you dream of playing? I’m searching for opportunities that will put my potentials and capabilities to the max. I’m

trying to avoid provocative roles that are based on physical appearance and looks. I want to present people of the society because I’m one of them. Who is your favourite designer? My favourite designer will be Chanel house. I’m obsessed over their designs and pieces. I make sure my wardrobe is up to date with their latest collections. Favourite perfume? Perfumes are a very delicate matter to me. I have a very exquisite taste to certain brands. On the top of my mind, I would say Casamorati Lira by Xerjoff and Victor & Rolf Flower Bomb. Favourite hotspot? I know this may sound hard to believe but unless it’s urgent I don’t go out that much. I’m very dedicated towards my work. I’d rather travel abroad and explore new spots over going to clubs and café outings. I’m more of a fine dining woman. I’m very picky with who I go out with and where. Describe your prince charming? I don’t have a type. I can mention several preferences of course, but unless we vibe together, it doesn’t matter. If it’s a tick-list, I can only pin point one single trait that really matters. I am a very peculiar and particular to details. Consequently, I get turned off very easily by the little mistakes. I can’t afford having a cheapskate or a man without ambitious and a career. I’m like a free spirit. I don’t fit in a cage. My partner needs to appreciate and embrace my wildness and not try to tame it. Jealousy matters, and what’s mine is mine, it shows how much we care for each other. Last but not least, trust is the key reason behind every successful relationship. Only a man with confidence will trust his woman. What are you working on? I’m going through several scripts, and I recently signed a new TV series for the off season. It’s still confidential, but very soon I will be able to go into details. I am also working on a new TV program with an innovative idea that would shock the audience.

AHMAD AL MORSY THE MAN BEHIND THE SCENES

prominent Director of photography A in Egypt’s modern cinema. The mira Tharwat talks to the most

winner of Excellence Award from the Australian Photographers Association Ahmad Al Morsy reveals all about the second sequel of the box office hit ‘The Blue elephant,’ and shares with us his international contributions and coming cinematic projects.

LOUNGE 32

From The Blue Elephant 1 to The Blue Elephant 2, what’s the most prominent changes that Ahmed Al Morsy occupationally achieved during these years? The Blue Elephant Part 1 was released in 2014, and now we are in 2019, of course there has been a lot of technological developments especially in terms of cameras, lighting and equipment used post filming such as, visual tricks and many more. Parallel to this and with more experience, it was necessary to have professional development, which has an impact in dealing with the script as well as the movie. As the axis of the films or the common element between them is the puzzles solved by the blue elephant pills through dreams, do you follow a different style in filming the new film? I dealt with the second part with a different philosophy, different view and method than that of the first part even in the type of cameras, lenses and lighting. Everything is different and is more suitable for the current period. Part two has a wider scale of graphics, does this make your job easier or harder for you? The existence of graphics is a difficult thing in my work because we create imagination that does not exist in reality, even during imaging, we actually don’t get to see the end result during filming, we just imagine it, and this needs a precise coordination between the output sections. Decoration, photography, the team of visual tricks, editing and others should all work together, and there must be harmony, understanding and

cooperation to achieve this fantasy satisfactorily for all parties and foremost the audience. What is challenging in this film? Was it an experience for you, even if we considered it difficult for some? The challenges in this film were too many including that mirror, which is one of the heroes of the film. It was visually important to see many mirrors in the film, but mirrors were often reflective of the camera as well as the world behind the camera and outside the cadre. This was a case that required special treatment all the time. One of the challenges of the film is that its events occur in just 4 days, so the element of time of the day was very important and we had to work hard to have the right visual sequence for four days. The audience sense of time should be considered of course. Also, filming the visual tricks required special treatment and that was certainly a difficult experience. Was there a new camera that was used in the movie? Or did it depend on modern technologies? The camera was completely different from the first part as well as the lenses and some lighting equipment. Also, moving the camera was different from the first part, and this is a result of the evolution of this equipment. Recently, you have won the Excellence Award from the Australian Photographers Association, which is not your first international award. What do these awards mean to you? Do you consider them an achievement?

The awards for me are an important recognition of the effort as well as a strong motivation that has continued and developed all the time. Of course, appreciation is important, but it shouldn’t be considered the main aim of work. Have you had opportunities to work on international projects? I worked on international projects, and have recently been collaborating with Discovery Channel on a film about the pyramids and discoveries of Pharaonic tombs, which is an important project, of course, in addition to the ads I shoot in different countries. You direct some of the ads you film, when are you going to direct your own movies? In fact, I do not have a plan for this step at the time being, but overall if there is a good opportunity I might change my mind. Who is the inspirational photography director for you? And why? The inspirational photography director for me is my friend and my teacher Tariq El Telmisany, and I consider every professional director, who is capable of handling his instruments is an inspiration and a challenge for me. After the Blue Elephant 2, what is your coming projects? I am currently filming Al Arif Younes, which is completely different from the Blue Elephant. I’m also involved in the early stages of preparation with more than one work, but the dates are not yet set.

ALL ABOUT KETOGENIC DIET he Ketogenic diet or the Keto diet has been very Thealthy popular recently, and the debate on whether it’s or not is never-ending. We can’t deny that there are numerous successful stories of how Keto diet helped people lose weight, but unfortunately, there are sad stories too that showed how the diet had negative consequences on others. So, if you want to know more about the Keto diet, the pros and the cons, and what to eat and what not to eat, read this article…

What is Keto Diet? The Ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. It depends on reducing your carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis, and when this happens, your body becomes extremely efficient at burning fat for energy, and thus, turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. Advantages of Keto Diet A Ketogenic diet is an effective way to lose weight and lower risk factors for diseases. Research shows that the Ketogenic diet is far superior to the often recommended low-fat diet. In fact, this diet is filling that you can lose weight without needing to count calories or having to track your food intake. 1.Diabetes and Pre-diabetes Diabetes is characterized by changes in metabolism, high blood sugar and impaired insulin function. The Ketogenic diet can help you lose excess fat, which is linked to type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Studies have proven that 95.2% of the Ketogenic group were able to stop or reduce diabetes medication, compared to 62% in the higher-carb group. 2.Epilepsy Research has shown that the ketogenic diet can cause massive reductions in seizures in epileptic children.

LOUNGE 34

3.Heart disease The Ketogenic diet can improve risk factors like body fat, HDL cholesterol levels, blood pressure and blood sugar. 4.Cancer This diet is currently used to treat several types of cancer as well as slow tumor growth. 5.Alzheimer’s disease It may also reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and slow its progression. 6.Parkinson’s disease A study has found that the diet helped improve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. 7.Polycystic ovary syndrome It can help reduce insulin levels that may play a key role in polycystic ovary syndrome. Foods to Avoid • Any food that is high in carbs should be limited. • Sugary foods: Soda, fruit juice, smoothies, cake, ice cream, candy, etc. • Grains or starches: Wheat-based products, rice, pasta, cereal, etc. • Fruit: All fruits except small portions of berries like strawberries. • Beans or legumes: Peas, kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas, etc. • Root vegetables: Potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, etc.

• Low-fat or diet products: These are highly processed and often high in carbs. • Some condiments or sauces: These often contain sugar and unhealthy fat. • Unhealthy fats: Limit your intake of processed vegetable oils, mayonnaise, etc. • Alcohol: Due to their carb content, it’s preferably not to consume alcohol. • Sugar-free diet foods: These are often high in sugar alcohols, which can affect ketone levels in some cases. Foods to Eat • Meat: Red meat, steak, ham, sausage, bacon, chicken and turkey. • Fatty fish: Such as salmon, trout, tuna and mackerel. • Eggs: Look for pastured or omega-3 whole eggs. • Butter and cream: Look for grass-fed when possible. • Cheese: Unprocessed cheese (cheddar, goat, cream, blue or mozzarella). • Nuts and seeds: Almonds, walnuts, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, etc. • Healthy oils: Primarily extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil. • Avocados: Whole avocados or freshly made guacamole. • Low-carb veggies: Most green veggies, tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. • Condiments: You can use salt, pepper and several healthy herbs and spices.

Disadvantages of Keto Diet Even though doctors say that the Keto diet can be helpful in treating many diseases, and that animal studies have also suggested that the diet may have anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and cancer-fighting benefits, as a general weight-loss plan, Keto is more controversial. Some health experts warn against it because of its negative side effects and health risks. 1.The “Keto Flu” “Some people report that when they start ketosis, they just feel sick,” says Kristen Kizer, RD, a nutritionist at Houston Methodist Medical Center. “There can sometimes be vomit, gastrointestinal distress, a lot of fatigue, and lethargy.” This so-called Keto Flu usually passes after a few days, she adds. You may be able to minimize the effects of keto flu by drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of sleep. 2.Diarrhea People who are on Keto diet often experience diarrhea, which might be due to the gallbladder, the organ that produces bile to help break down fat in the diet, feeling overwhelmed. It can also be due to a lack of fiber in the diet, which can happen when you cut on carbs and don’t supplement with other fiber-rich foods like vegetables.

3.Reduced athletic performance In a recent study in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, participants performed worse on high-intensity cycling and running tasks after four days on a Keto diet, compared to those who spent 4 days on a high-carb diet. The study says that the body is in a more acidic state when it’s in ketosis, which may limit its ability to perform at peak levels. 4.Ketoacidosis If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, you shouldn’t follow the Keto diet unless you are under your doctor’s supervision. “Ketosis can actually be helpful for people who have hyperglycemia issues, but you have to be very mindful of your blood sugar and check your glucose levels several times a day,” says an expert. 5.Weight regain The problem with this diet is that most people will regain a lot of the weight they lost as soon as they go back on carbs. These types of back and forth weight fluctuations can contribute to eating disorders, and can worsen an unhealthy relationship with food.

6.Less muscle mass & decreased metabolism Unfortunately, Keto can also cause a loss of muscle mass especially if you’re eating more fat than protein. “You’ll lose weight, but it might actually be a lot of muscle,” an expert says, “and because muscle burns more calories than fat, that will affect your metabolism.” When a person goes off the Ketogenic diet and regains some of their original weight, it’s often not in the same proportions, she adds; instead of regaining lean muscle, you are likely to regain fat. 7.Increased risk of heart disease and diabetes The Ketogenic diet should include a lot of vegetables and lean sources of animal protein, which most people don’t do. Doctors say that high-fat diets like Keto diet can raise cholesterol levels, and some studies suggest that they increase the risk of diabetes.

A Banana A Day Supports Healthy Blood Pressure

Bananas are big business, but are they good business? Bananas are known to be full of healthy potassium, fiber, vitamin C, and B6. Most of us think primarily about sodium when we want to lower our blood pressure. In reality, it is a delicate balance of sodium and potassium that supports a healthy blood pressure. Unfortunately, not all of us pay attention to that. Eating a banana everyday can help you keep that balance and thus, enjoy a healthy blood pressure.

Weather Can Affect Your Heart

Extreme temperatures can put a strain on the heart, which can raise the risk of a heart attack or stroke in people who already have atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque, cholesterol, and/or fats on the artery walls. Cold temps cause blood vessels to constrict, making the heart work harder to circulate blood. On very cold or hot days, avoid over-exertion because that can cause too much pressure on your heart. Also, prevent overheating by avoiding direct sun during the hottest hours of the day (noon to 3 p.m.).

Pumpkin Seeds Can Curb Cravings

Nearly everything in our bodies requires protein, including our skin, blood, and bones. It’s key for cell tissue repair and regeneration. And since protein takes longer to digest than carbs, protein-rich meals can also keep you fuller, longer. Pumpkin seeds are a great high protein snack that are filled with potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron. These minerals are key to maintaining energy levels. The seeds pack a supersatisfying combo of about 6 grams fibre, 7 grams protein per 1.5-ounce snack pack, which makes them a satisfying, nutritionally dense addition to soups, stews, or stir frys.

Bloating Can be a Sign of Celiac Disease

Bloating is fairly common and can happen due to a person’s diet, medications, or genetics. But sometimes, bloating can signal something is wrong with your health. Bloating can be a symptom of cancer, Celiac disease, or thyroid disease. If your bloating is accompanied by other symptoms, like fatigue, joint pain, or loss of appetite, it could be a serious health problem. If you’re constantly tired or have brittle nails, your bloat could be a sign of Celiac disease. Sometimes bloating can reflect your body’s inability to absorb certain vitamins and minerals, which can lead to deficiencies.

LOUNGE 36

Having a GI Disorder could lead to Vitamin K Deficiency People who have certain gastrointestinal disorders or malabsorption syndromes may have problems properly absorbing vitamin K. These conditions include cystic fibrosis, ulcerative colitis, chronic pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, short bowel syndrome, and obstruction of the bowel duct. If you’ve had bariatric surgery, you also have a higher risk of vitamin K deficiency. Talk with your doctor about if you’re at risk for vitamin K deficiency and if you should take a vitamin K supplement.

In addition to moods, global and local music editors focus purely on specific and local genres, with pop, classical, folk, rock and heavy metal, rap, R&B, dance and gospel all having their own dedicated editor in countries all over the world. Whether it’s a relaxed classical dinner date or an electronic pumped up workout - there’s always a music editor working behind the scenes. This makes Deezer the user’s preferred music friend.

To what extent do you feel music applications like Deezer are limiting hack and guaranteeing to protect the artists copyrights? At Deezer, we aim to protect content owners’ copyrights in full and eradicate piracy; however, we also acknowledge that this is a long process and the region is still getting ready for it. It is a long road ahead. Is music streaming more important than CDs? Over the last couple of years, streaming has grown as a channel, where consumers can experience music that is relevant to them. Not only are user numbers increasing, but more people are converting from a freemium to a premium model. According to the IFPI 2018 report (for 2017 figures) global music revenues are up 8.1% - the third consecutive year of global growth. The latest data from IFPI clearly shows that streaming continues to be the biggest driver of and contributor to the growth of overall recorded music revenue. We are proud to contribute to this positive trend. Deezers provide unlimited access to 36 million HiFi, CD-quality lossless tracks (16-Bit/44.1 kHz FLAC), how did you manage to do so? We believe that we deliver the optimal experience in high quality audio based on insight from audiophiles and customer feedback. FLAC is a widely supported format in the consumer electronics industry, while other higher resolution formats will need more time to achieve the same support. it delivers for those who want the option of higher quality audio. Tell us more about the flow option in Deezer application? Director of Resense Spa

The atmosphere of the Spa, the decorations, the oil paintings, the statues and even the music make you feel like a queen of the medieval ages being hailed. As soon as you enter the place, the magnificent smell and the velvet couches promise that you will have a luxurious experience. Being a European spa company with more than 40 branches all over the world, Resense Spa adopts the European Water Treatment used in Germany and Switzerland in particular. This treatment works by reverse hydrotherapy technique; it starts with the steam to warm up the body then, a cool shower to activate the circulation of the blood in the body, and afterwards sauna. Then, the therapists apply ice on the skin to activate the cells by shocking the system of the body. This has a very healthy effect on the body and gives the skin an amazing glow. However, Resense Spa located at Kempinski Royal Maxim “doesn’t only offer the European treatment, it has a multicultural therapists from all over the world; Asian, European, Egyptian and soon Indian treatment as well,” said Rommel Delos Reyes the director of the Spa. “As soon as the client contact us for an appointment we make small conversation with him/her to sense what they need and customize a treatment only for them to suit their needs and requirements,” he adds. A task like this needs to be done with passion, love and positive energy to absorb the stress of the clients, take it away and replace it with a refreshing mood. Once you enter the spa, you will feel that the workers are warm and friendly, they listen very carefully to what your body has to say in order to relief the pain and stretch the muscles. The scrub there is a totally different experience; I would highly recommend it for any couple before their big day. Whether you choose to do the scrub with the irresistible smell of rose or the healthy milk scrub, they both are handmade and exclusive especially for Resense. The scrub washes away the dead cells from the

LOUNGE 40

body leaving it glowing and soft like a baby’s skin, and afterwards the therapist wraps the body with a warm device to guarantee the healthy oils penetrate the skin for a lasting glow. One of the best treatments Resense Spa shows pride in is their Balinese foot massage; “based on the ancient Asian technique, each part of your feet links with an organ or part of your body, through certain movements and pressure we can help relief the stress from the body through the feet,” said Ayu a therapist from Bali, who knows how to kiss the pain goodbye through her magical touches and positive cheerful spirit. You might

feel some pain at the beginning of the 50 minutes session, but afterwards you will feel like walking on the sky! “Our therapists are well-trained and always open to learn new techniques and treatments,” said the spa’s director, who isn’t any less cheerful than his team of therapists. Spending a couple of hours in Resense Spa was so much worth the time and the money as there is nothing more important than taking the stress away and feeling refreshed every now and then after hectic working hours to be able to welcome new challenges and carry on. “Massage is not a luxury anymore; it is actually a necessity to maintain a healthy lifestyle like hitting the gym or eating healthy, your muscles deserve to be pampered at least once a month. Also, massage with its different treatments prevents a lot of injuries before it gets worse. It is a wellness experience like no other,” said Rommel.

InterContinental Cairo Citystars has confidently lined up against the competition to attract lovers of truly authentic

EGYPTIAN CUISINE with the recent opening of

Al Khal

By the pool and so with the al fresco option, the main restaurant is well air-conned against the heat. Al Khal boasts cool tiled floors, shades of red, blue and gold upholstery set against table arrangements separated by attractive drapes hanging from the beamed ceiling.

The meal began with sipping Kassab from a drinks menu of hot and cold beverages, mocktails and cocktails, and then a pleasing touch for an appetizer. ‘Dokka’ served with bread rounds brought soft, fresh and warm straight from the oven. Dokka, crushed nuts with cumin and sesame, its part in Egyptian folklore, an Arabian equivalent of loving someone ‘for better or worse.’ “See, I love you so much, I’ll even eat bread and dokka with you.” Awww! Taste buds and romantic notions equally stimulated, it was time to sample from the menu which will soon be extended with even more classic Egyptian dishes. As Chef de Cuisine, Omar Hamada, emphasized: “We offer truly traditional Egyptian food, dishes from different regions of the country, dishes that are special to families in the Delta, in Upper Egypt and other parts of Egypt: Port Said, Ismailaya; we pull together the favourites from around the country.” No worries, there is plenty to explore and satisfy.

LOUNGE 46

Soups include Shourbet Lissan Asfour (pastina with clear meat broth and spices); there are five salads, plus cold appetizers featuring Gebna Adima (farm-aged cottage cheese with tomato and sesame) and hot appetizers. There’s assorted Mahshi, of course, Koushary and succulent Kebda Iskandaerani (stir fried veal liver) and Rokak bel Lahma with ground beef sandwiched between crispy layers of dough. Tagens and main dishes include creations revolving around seafood, huge marinated shrimps, cubed lamb and lamb shanks, braised oxtail and pigeon, all with the perfectly matched herbs and spices to tease out the maximum flavour. And if you choose one of the three varieties of molokheya, expect to see the impressive Chef emerge to cast an eye over diners appreciating her particular specialty. Just another touch, reassuring that you are truly eating from one of Egypt’s traditional kitchens.

TIPS TO PACK SMART DURING SUMMER TRAVELS

T

raveling? Super fun! Packing your suitcase? Not so much. Ladies, admit it. We all need at least 15 outfits to survive a 3-day, 2-night trip. And did we mention a selection of shoes, bags and accessories? And yes- let’s not forget makeup, skincare and sanitary supplies too. So, the question still remains, how do you really fit in your whole closet in a 20-kilogram piece of suitcase? Lady Baltazar, a Dubai-based fashion and beauty influencer tells you.

1

Plan your outfits Number 1 and probably the most important part is to plan what you’re going to wear for the duration of your trip. Planning doesn’t only allow you to pack smart, it saves you time and energy on selecting your outfit one by one during your trip.

2 3

Use packing cubes Packing cubes serve as your instant travel drawers while on a holiday. It helps you sort and organize your items according to type. You can easily pack your accessories, gadgets or toiletries without having to worry about forgetting where you actually placed them. Again, it saves you time and keeps your suitcase neat and tidy. Roll vs. Fold It’s an old-age debate of which is actually better for packing. The answer is roll and fold. Rolling is great for thinner pieces of clothing like shirts and dresses as it saves space, and helps make the clothes wrinkle-free. However, for bulkier items such as sweaters, it is best to fold them rather than to roll.

LOUNGE 56

4

5 6

Travel-sized everything Toiletries can sometimes take a lot of space in our suitcase. The best solution? Bring travel-sized products, or transfer everything you need into travel-sized bottles. This way, you get to bring all your beauty essentials with you on your trip without sacrificing to leave behind your favorite hand cream or hair styling cream!

Wear bulkier items Another tip you can try is to actually wear heavier or bulkier items instead of packing them. Got a cute coat you really need to get that perfect OOTD shot? Wear it to the airport, it can get pretty cold anyway. How about those bulky sneakers you just can’t leave behind? Time to flaunt it! However, if it feels uncomfortable to wear, you’ll have to think twice especially if you’re taking a long-haul flight.

Weigh It If you don’t want the hassle of unpacking and repacking again in the middle of the airport just because of an overweight baggage, make sure to weigh your suitcase before actually checking your bags in at the airport. Can you imagine leaving a carefully planned dress behind? Definitely not.
