Interior Concept: Transformation

We can begin to understand the scieinces,
mathematics, whether calculus or geometery, and technology whether biology or cosmology,
whether programming or gaming as all founded on
transformation is the basis of knowledge upon which we as learners engage the world.

What must the world be like that man (we) might know it? The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn Sam Houston High School /Interior Architecture/Concept Strategy
Jack Meziro describes transformation as, ...the process of becoming critically aware of how and why our assumptions have come to constrain the way we perceive, understand, and feel about our world; changing these structures of habitual expectation to make possible a more inclusive, discriminating, and integrating perspective; and Zfinally, making choices or otherwise acting upon these new understandings.

Learning as Transformation Jack Mezirow and learning through transformation Learning through transformation in the sciences, math and technology is about making meaning, not just about acquiring knowledge, and “[m]eaning is making sense of or giving coherence to our experiences” (Mezirow, 1991a, p. 11). It is about taking ownership of one’s learning through critical reflection, rather than mindlessly or unquestioningly acquiring frames of reference through life experiences. According to Jack Mezirow who has spend the past several decades looking at learning as transformative which can be viewed as “an enhanced level of awareness of the context of one’s beliefs and feelings, a critique of one’s assumptions, and particularly premises, and an assessment of alternative perspectives” Mezirow proposes that “it is not so much what happens to people but how they interpret and explain what happens to them that determines their actions, their hopes, their contentment and emotional well-being, and their performance” (Mezirow, 1991a, xiii). Thomas Kuhn in acknowledging the paradign in scientific knowledge In the study of science, mathematics and technology, the historian, Thomas Kuhn, argues that in these disciplines knowledge can be assessed and transformed by the consideration of the paradign. In The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Kuhn saw the sciences as going through alternating periods of normal science, when an existing model of reality dominates a protracted period of puzzle-solving, and revolution, when the model of reality itself undergoes sudden drastic change. Paradigms have two aspects. Firstly, within normal science, the term refers to the set of exemplary experiments that are likely to be copied or emulated. Secondly, underpinning this set of exemplars are shared preconceptions, made prior to – and conditioning – the collection of evidence.[10] These preconceptions embody both hidden assumptions and elements that he describes as quasi-metaphysical;[11] the interpretations of the paradigm may vary among individual scientists.[12] Kuhn, T S (1970) The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (2nd Edition) University of Chicago Press. Because all of these things that we frown upon and that give us problems in this country ultimately are traceable to the dropout or to the lack of education or to environment or to health problems or something else which could be cured by giving to every person the right to acquire all the education that he or she could take.
