Autumn
Consumer habits are currently undergoing a period of change. Thanks to digital technology, large firms have a powerful tool at their disposal to connect with their customers. Companies are obliged to spend more time developing their values and culture - this is the key to the future. In present times, consumer decisions depend on ethical or sustainability values. The emphasis is on authenticity. For this reason, we want to promote with all our resources (magazine, website, Instagram...) those established, quality companies that understand the balance between integrating technology with print media, and how to preserve the sense of humanity in business. We live in a fast-moving world, every day there are new challenges to face, and the media is a blank canvas on which to draw freely. Via our resources, we open up a new range of possibilities to companies that have something they want to share with our readers regarding their experience and professional skills, and to express their vision of the 21st century. Creating beauty is our mission, “our painting”, “our canvas”. In a time marked by internet exposure and information overload, it’s good for us to disconnect. We sincerely hope that you find a moment to “detox” from social media and read an article of interest in our magazine. In this Autumn Edition we focus our attention on Rafa NADAL, a young man who teaches us every day to be a “SUPERHERO” in our own lives, to stay focused, to be faithful to our goals and to fight for them to the end. You’ll find many articles and interviews with important men and women from Marbella, fine jewellery, autumn fashion, and so much more... Without further ado, I wish you all the best for this “SWEET” autumn.

EXCLUSIVE PEOPLE
From talent to legend By Eva del Amo
Being No. 1 in tennis, and at the same time so well-loved and admired both on and off the court is difficult, but Rafael Nadal has achieved it with flying colours. An athlete who has based his career on respect, humility, effort, determination, and that sense of fun which enables him to continue writing his legend, day by day.

EXCLUSIVE PEOPLE
When the tennis player Rafael Nadal won his 12th Roland Garros last June, the journalists had a hard time finding a new term to describe his brilliant career. How could the success of the best Spanish tennis player of all time be summarised, once again? What adjective could be used for the athlete who has already exhausted the best qualifiers in the dictionary, when he is intent on continuing to write the history of international tennis? The son of Ana María Parera and Sebastián Nadal, Rafael was born in Manacor, Mallorca, on June 3rd, 1986, into a sport-loving family. His uncle, Miguel Ángel Nadal, was a football player and played for FC Barcelona and RCD Mallorca, and his uncle, Toni Nadal, had been a tennis player.
“COPING MEANS ACCEPTING THINGS
AS THEY ARE”
A CHILDHOOD PASSION From a very early age he was passionate about sports. With the encouragement of Toni Nadal, he began to practise his first strokes with the racket when he was only three years old. As he also liked football, he did both sports. However, when he reached adolescence, he had to make a choice, faced with a foreseeable lack of
time to combine two sports with his studies. He chose tennis, where he had already been winning tournaments for more than four years. In 2004, at the age of just 18, Rafa was a member of the Spanish National Team that won the Davis Cup. A year later, in one of his first competitions as an adult, he catapulted to the top of the professional scene by winning the Roland Garros, the first of his twelve victories at the French Open. If there was any doubt about the heights he would reach, he won the tournament again the following year, and a year later he repeated the feat, going on to win two Grand Slams, the Olympic gold medal, and become world number 1 in 2008. A legend was born. A RESILIENT SPIRIT Rafa’s successes have been repeated throughout his career, not only on clay courts, but on all surfaces. 2014, despite him winning his ninth French Open, was a complicated year due to injuries, which continued into 2015. However, Rafa’s determination and enormous capacity for hard work earned him his tenth Roland Garros in 2017, the year in which he also won his third US Open title and became number 1 again. His injuries also complicated the end of last year, but the tennis player showed the world that he was capable of winning the French Open once again. When asked about his ability to overcome injuries and setbacks, he replies: “I’ve learned throughout my career to enjoy

pain. Without pain there’s no happiness. Coping means accepting things as they are, and not as you’d like them to be. And looking forward, not backwards.” Among Rafa’s virtues which have made him great as an athlete and as a person, are respect and humility. This is probably what has made him so internationally well-loved. “Humility is recognising your limitations. I always work with an objective, which is to improve as a player and as a person. Attitude is fundamental in life. If you never lose, you won’t enjoy the victories. You have to accept both. Losing isn’t my enemy. My enemy is the fear of losing.” HUMAN VALUES Apart from his sporting successes, Rafael Nadal is well-known for his human values. In 2008, he created the Rafa Nadal Foundation with his mother, where sport and education have become the best allies to carry out social projects with children and young people in Spain and India. “We’re working so that they have access to equal opportunities in order to make the most of their abilities and potential, regardless of their personal and social conditions,” he says. The transformative power of sport and communication is what allows children and adolescents to go as far as they can, regardless of their origins or their personal and social conditions, including those with learning difficulties or disabilities. Rafa is the founding trustee of the organisation, and is fully involved in the projects and charitable events this entails. Along with Rafa, the board is made up of his closest family members, as well as a multidisciplinary team who share his values of solidarity. With their work supervised by the Protectorate of Foundations, which monitors the legality of every action carried out, the Foundation is committed to three main projects. “More than Tennis”, based on attitudes such as effort and perseverance, is focused on care for young people with intellectual disabilities. Over 200 young people are participating in this programme, in 19 schools in different locations in Spain. In parallel, the Foundation also supports the social integration of vulnerable children in Palma de Mallorca, who are offered a supplementary programme with activities related to the socio-educational area and sports, as well as psychotherapy. Around 250 children and young people benefit from this programme every year. Lastly, the Rafael Nadal Foundation helps young people who combine their training with studies to access scholarships granted by American universities, as well as providing additional financial aid to students who may require it, due to their economic and family situation. Since the beginning of the programme, more than 50 young people have benefitted from these scholarships. Rafael Nadal is one of the greats in tennis history, and the Spanish tennis player with the largest number of individual titles. His sporting successes are only comparable to the honour of being so well-loved and respected off the court. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 21

Y mirar hacia adelante y no hacia atrás”.
“Soportar significa aceptar
EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 23

Kenza Eyzaguirre EL03.indd 26

e’re at Puente Romano’s Owners Club to interview Kenza Eyzaguirre. Tell us about your origins... Where you’re from, where you grew up and where you did your university degree. I was born in Malaga, and I was in Marbella until I was 10, but as my mother’s American and my parents divorced when I was little, I’d travel a lot to the United States with her, and also to England. After a time in England, I came back to Marbella and studied here until the age of 10, when I moved to Tennessee, in the south of the United States, where I went to an American high school. At the age of 17, I went to Paris on my own and studied History of Art and Marketing (Fashion Marketing). Has being an only child influenced you? I’d say so, because it’s made me very independent, and I’m also a person who needs to enjoy some alone time. I believe that being an only child made me mature very quickly. As I mentioned before, I lived alone from the age of 17 to 25. I don’t have siblings, but as a child, I had a very close relationship with my grandparents. In my personal life, having them and their unconditional support has helped me a lot. As a child, what did you want to be? Did you have a vocation? Yes, I’ve always wanted to work with the environment. My true vocation is to help others. When I was a child, my reference was Greenpeace... And then, when I was 18 years old, I was lucky enough to do an internship in Geneva, at the United Nations, and that left a lasting mark on me. So yes, since I was a child, working on environmental projects has always been my passion. You give the impression of being a fragile, reserved, introverted woman... But now that I’m with you, I feel that you’re the opposite, I see you as a woman who’s strong, determined, approachable and very affectionate. Who is the real Kenza Eyzaguirre? That’s a difficult question (she laughs). But the truth is, I love being surrounded by people, my work’s always very social, although I do need some time to myself too, like everyone… I consider myself a very affectionate, transparent person, and I always find the good in everyone. I’m of the opinion that it’s very important to surround yourself with different people. I love cultural diversity because each person brings something new.
You can learn from everyone and that’s very good. You have to have an open mind and be receptive in order to grow as a person. You lived in Paris, the city of love, for 17 years... Do you consider yourself a romantic woman? What would you highlight about Paris? I lived in Paris for 8 years. I went there when I was 17 years old, and I feel that I owe this magnificent city so much. I was lucky to work in fashion, and aesthetically speaking, it opened my eyes to the world of beauty. I consider myself very privileged to have had the opportunity to work for many of the established family brands in France. This opened my eyes to the world of fashion, refinement and of course, to the world of art and architecture that can be found in every street and every corner of Paris. I learned a lot about impressionist and classical art, as while I was studying in Paris, we would go to museums or churches every day. This was part of the learning process, and I consider it a luxury. It’s enriched me culturally and emotionally. But to get back to your first question, unfortunately, I don’t consider myself very romantic, although obviously I find the city of Paris especially romantic, its nights... walking the streets of Paris, especially at night, is lovely, the city is so beautiful! Invaluable! As for my romantic side, I consider myself a sensitive, nostalgic woman, I love music... I think that is my romantic side... And Paris has influenced me a lot in that sense! In present times, frivolity is commonplace... Many men and women are resorting to cosmetic surgery, compulsive shopping, also in decoration... This generation is more perfectionist and non-conformist. What do you think about this? Do you see any sense in it? I think it’s a pity that society is becoming obsessed in this sense, because, as you say, it’s a frivolous world, and in the end, it doesn’t bring you happiness. It’s a shame. What really makes you happy isn’t changing aesthetically or wearing fashion brands, what makes you happy - and this has been studied - is helping others. Fortunately, I also see that there’s now a “social movement” of some people and schools concerned about the world, the environment and sustainability... I think we should focus our attention more on this perspective, and strive to create a better world… It’s possible! However, I do know that you’re doing great humanitarian work. Tell us, how and where
did the idea of helping people in underdeveloped countries, such as Kenya, come about? I was fortunate to be working with Daniel Shamoon, the owner of the Hotel. He’s a great Ambassador of WORLD VISION for England. And, for years, he’s helped out in many projects, especially in the areas of Africa and Kenya... I’ve been lucky enough to accompany him on his trips to visit the projects he collaborates with, and at the same time, we raise funds with the events we hold here at the Hotel for the WORLD VISION GALA, which is held every August. A beautiful gala... We’ve 250 guests, a show, singers... For me, it’s the most beautiful and important event of the year. I help to organise these galas, and with the funds raised, we’re going to visit the projects we have in Kenya. My first trip changed my life. For my part, I want to keep helping, and I recently walked a marathon in Madrid to raise funds for the “We Are Water foundation”. There’s severe drought in Kenya, unfortunately, and the children miss school as they have to walk many kilometres every day just to get water. We do this walk as a symbol of what they do, in order to raise funds for them. I want to hold more fundraising events to really help these sectors of the population. This is needed in Marbella: more awareness to eradicate as much poverty as possible. And we must all take responsibility in this endeavour (from our places of work, personally, each family and political, educational and cultural institution...). Together we can help, and save the future of millions of children who don’t have the same opportunities as we do. There is an ever-increasing number of people who are gaining awareness and responsibility regarding food, and from this perspective, opt for veganism as a way to protect the planet. What led you to become vegan? Moral, health or aesthetic reasons? Well, I think me being vegan was inherited. My mother was already a vegan, and of course, I learned from her. She never pressured me, but I grew up with this education in food, and the result today is that her influence, and later, my studies on food and the environment, have ultimately made me choose this life and food philosophy. Now, moreover, I’m a somewhat ‘radical’ vegan, since my diet is based on raw food of vegetable origin, which is known by the name of ‘raw veganism’. In other words, I don’t eat meat, fish, eggs, dairy... Nothing processed, nor any food subjected to cooking... EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 27

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
If we read and study in depth, “the issue of farms... is a scandal”, pesticides... I’ve adopted this life philosophy because, in addition to feeling healthy, it makes me feel good, and I believe that I’m contributing to helping the environment... There’s a documentary, “What the Health”, which I recommend you watch, as it has helped many people change their diet. Your passion for fashion has been rewarded with a long career in Paris with important international companies... Are you yearning to go back to work in the fashion sector some day? I worked for Boucheron in the Place Vendome, in luxury jewellery, I did an internship there. The oldest jewellery store in France. I also worked for Chanel and Corto Moltedo, who’s the son of the founder of Bottega Veneta, it’s a younger, trendier brand of Bottega Veneta. I was fortunate to work closely with him in marketing. My last job in Paris was at the American company, Mint Buying Office, (Saks Fifth Avenue NY). I worked at its Paris office, for the American department for all the buyers when they came to Paris during Fashion Week. We organized the shows, the collections... It was a very intense job, but very interesting for me. It’s fortunate that in my position in Marbella, I get to organise many fashion events. I used to do it at MC Café, in the Marbella Club, and now we hold fashion shows every year at the Sea Grill, which have been met with a positive response and are proving highly successful: Salvatore Ferragamo, Elisabetta Franchi, La Perla, Virginia Macari... We’re currently working on a project in Puente Romano, a luxury shopping centre with top fashion firms. We’re going to present it soon, and it will be very important for Marbella, as we’ll be bringing important international firms. Kenza, you’ve proven yourself to be a very versatile woman. Some may not be aware of your role in the art world. You worked for one of the most important art galleries in Paris, the Moretti & Moretti Gallery, which is particularly known for Street Art, and is now located in Marbella, in the Marbella Club Hotel and in NOBU HOTEL. What led you to work in the art world, and what have you learned from it? Hubertus Hohenlohe invited me to a photography exhibition at an art gallery, Moretti & Moretti, when I lived in Paris. I was lucky enough to meet and get to know the owners personally. Two years later, I came back to Marbella and 28

Hubertus invited me to a party at his house, and I met the gallery owners again, who were two brothers, ‘the Moretti brothers’. At that time, they opened a gallery in the Marbella Club, the one we know today, and as they had to go to Paris for various reasons, they asked me to take charge of the gallery. And so I did, I confirmed my intention to take charge of the Gallery in their absence, and one weekend I went to Ibiza. Unfortunately, while I was there, one of the brothers died. It was so tragic! So I came back and was in charge of the Gallery along with Patrick for a year, and I was there for him during that time. Since then we’ve had a very close relationship. This year he’s opened a gallery in Puente Romano. Patrick has some magnificent works in Paris, a large collection with a lot of potential, and now we’re going to open a gallery in Ibiza, with Daniel’s help. He’s been a good client of Moretti for many years, and now we’re going to work on some great projects. You currently work in the exclusive Puente Romano Hotel. Tell us briefly about your career path since your beginnings in the Hotel. Although I grew up in Marbella, I didn’t know Daniel personally. My mother studied with his mother in London, and my family did know her family but, as I lived abroad, I didn’t. As I told you earlier, I worked at the Moretti & Moretti Gallery for a year, and started organising events to promote the different artists’ exhibitions... I became known to the hotel group for the events I organised, and they asked me to help them as public relations of the Hotel... I’ve gradually taken on more responsibilities, and my position has continued developing to this day. It was three years ago that Daniel asked me to get involved in a new project. The new project was the creation of what we know today as the OWNERS CLUB. For this purpose, and along with him, I started to make a list of the most influential people in Marbella (the established Marbella-born families, as my family had lived here for many, many years and we had a lot of acquaintances), and that’s how this interesting club, OWNERS CLUB, started. You tend to travel a lot for work... Do you have an anti-stress routine? I love to travel, so I honestly enjoy all my trips... I don’t have any stress, or very little! I’m a very calm person, so stress doesn’t affect me much. But I do walk 10 or 15 km, and this, you could say, is an anti-stress routine that I do every day. I need that me-time…
To finish up, tell me very briefly: Your favourite film? I have a lot! I love Memoirs of a Geisha, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, To Catch a Thief, The Lover... All the classics, in general. A fear? I’m not afraid of anything, I’m very spiritual. A book you’d recommend? At the moment I don’t have much time for reading. Hemingway, when I was little, I loved reading about all his travels, a true American adventurer; Rhonda Byrne, the author of Self Help books, such as The Secret; the Russian writer, Pushkin, and François Sagan, a French writer. A woman you consider charismatic, or is an icon for you, and why? I’ve always admired Jackie Kennedy’s sister (Lee Radziwill). She was avant-garde for her time, and worked as public relations and ambassador for many fashion brands. An adventurous, interesting, intellectual woman. Another woman I admire is Amal Clooney, for her humanitarian work and her intelligence; Angelina Jolie for her projects in Cambodia and Africa. And another is Jane Goodall, for her help in conserving animal welfare, especially chimpanzees. Her studies turned around and revolutionised the knowledge that existed on human beings and their behaviour, making comparisons with the studies carried out on chimpanzees. A man you admire? My two grandfathers, of course, who always took such good care of their family, and my father, for his great loyalty to the family; Daniel Shamoon, because he is a great entrepreneur, a visionary, always having interesting, innovative ideas... The good thing about him is that he’s very humble, despite his position, he has a big heart for all those who work for him, and for everything he’s doing in all his humanitarian projects; John Thomson because he is a great professional, and also Donald Trump, because despite the controversies that have always surrounded him, I admire his management, both politically and as president of the USA (improvement in the economy and decrease in unemployment), as well as on a family level, as he gave his children a very strict education, and nowadays all of them work with him. Your favourite perfume? Black Opium, and my friend Moretti also brings me GIGI by Givenchy from Paris, and I love it! EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 29

CAN ROCA An emotional journey to the epicentre of flavour Joan, Josep and Jordi. The Roca brothers, the three vertices of an equilateral triangle whose synergy gives shape to a cuisine unlike any other. A three-player game which is based on effort, perseverance, curiosity and emotion. The result is El Celler de Can Roca, where gastronomy is interpreted in a different, unique way. Cuisine, wine and the world of desserts in a perfect fraternity to delight the palate.

he Roca brothers’ passion for cooking originated in Can Roca, the bar-restaurant that their parents, Josep and Montserrat, opened on the outskirts of Girona. Josep Roca Sr., who the brothers affectionately nicknamed “the boss”, was a bus driver on the line between Sant Esteve de Llémena and Girona. One day, while out on his usual route, he saw premises with a for-sale sign, and did not think twice about it, convinced that opening a restaurant opposite a factory and next to a bus stop was a safe bet when it came to getting clients. In Can Roca, which still operates as a restaurant, the three brothers grew up learning to love cooking, with the inspiration of the dishes that Montserrat and Granny Angeleta prepared. The best place to learn that gastronomy must be, above all, respectful, generous and honest. Years later, El Celler de Can Roca, the restaurant the brothers decided to open, would be awarded three Michelin stars, and was voted The World’s Best Restaurant by The World’s
34
50 Best Restaurants on two occasions, in 2013 and 2015. This year, the same list has named them ‘Best of The Best Restaurant’, ad eternum. TRADITION AND MODERNITY The Roca brothers studied at the Escola d’Hosteleria de Girona, where they learned about the academic cuisine which, combined with a traditional base, has resulted in an internationally acclaimed restaurant, committed to creative cuisine without losing sight of its roots. “What matters is that the client leaves happy and wants to come back, regardless of whether the restaurant is number one, or number two, three or fifty,” says Joan. In El Celler de Can Roca the allocation of roles among the three brothers is one of the secrets of their success. Three brilliant minds that come together to bring out the best in themselves and each other. Joan, the eldest brother, is the master chef. His dishes arbitrate between science and tradition, techno-
logy and sensitivity, and the result is an emotional journey for the diner. His contributions to sous-vide and low-temperature cooking have transformed the way of looking at 21st century gastronomy. Furthermore, his generous vocation for teaching has led him to reveal the secrets of his cuisine for over 20 years, and to collaborate in different university programmes, such as the Harvard course ‘Science & Cooking’. Joan was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Girona. Additionally, this year he has been named Honorary Academic Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, and together with his brothers, he is an ambassador for the United Nations Sustainable Development programmes. WINES AND DESSERTS Josep Roca’s first contact with wine was in the cellar of his parents’ bar-restaurant, where he did not hesitate to chat with customers, even as a child. While playing, he laid the

foundations of his two great talents: wine and dining service. An expert in the art of food and wine pairing, and maître of El Celler de Can Roca, he received the National Gastronomy Award for Best Maître in 2004, the National Gastronomy Award and the International Academy of Gastronomy Award for Best Sommelier on several occasions, and the Gueridón Gold Award for Best Maître in 2013. Josep likes to call himself a “wine waiter” and, according to the critics, he has achieved a boundless associative aptitude for dishes and wines. Nowadays he combines his work in El Celler de Can Roca with teaching, as well as writing a wine column for La Vanguardia and travelling the world giving lectures. For his part, Jordi Roca defines himself as “el postrero”, which in Spanish means ‘the last to arrive’, and it is also a play on the word postre, which means ‘dessert’. Of the Roca brothers, he is the last-born, and he makes the last dish served to the diner. His training in the world of des-
GASTRONOMY MUST BE, ABOVE ALL, RESPECTFUL, GENEROUS
AND HONEST serts was under the talented Welsh pastry chef, Damian Allsop, who provided him with all the necessary tools to understand the secrets of a culinary niche that allows you to “create and fly.” Over the last few years Jordi has not stopped having fun, dreaming, provoking and playing, caught up in the absolute need to reflect his life in desserts, where creativity can spring from a walk, a landscape, a smell or an emotion. Within his freedom and freshness, he likes to push the boundaries. An irreverent fantasy that arrives at the end of the meal, where the boundaries between convention and fantasia have been broken down. This year Jordi Roca has been named Honorary Academic Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors. In 2014, he was named The
World’s Best Pastry Chef in The World’s 50 Best awards, and along with his brothers, he received the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 2015. One of the secrets of El Celler de Can Roca’s success lies in the raw materials. The Roca brothers have not lost sight of tradition, but neither have they sacrificed innovation, on the assumption that the most diverse cuisine is always more surprising and fun. A passionate, intelligent, creative game, in which the dishes are defined with commitment, drawing inspiration from any aspect of life that is worthwhile. In the Roca brothers’ restaurant, technical and aesthetic perfection go hand in hand. Culinary harmony where the luxury lies in emotion and naturalness. A once-in-a-lifetime experience. oan, Josep y Jordi.

His activity is developed mainly in the Costa del Sol, and has projects spread over the Spanish geography, Lisbon, Casablanca, Tangier, Dominican Republic ... It develops its work fundamentally in the following areas: - Residential: villas and residential complexes - Leisure architecture: Hotels, shopping centres, sports centres, leisure centres and golf resorts. - Author’s architecture, aimed at those clients committed to design, who demand personalised projects and where spatiality and new materials are at the service of the avant-garde. It has a multidisciplinary team that encompasses all fields of architecture: architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, draughtsmen and graphic designers in order to reach all fields of architecture. But if there is one, where this team stands out is in avant-garde design: signature architecture and modern spaces. Its attraction, Orient: as influence Bali, Thailand... They are passionate about Mikonos, Ibiza, the Mediterranean are their roots. Water is the protagonist in their work; it has multiple forms: from a sheet reflecting our facade, to the murmur created by its movement meandering between ditches and canals... or the theatricality of a large waterfall or a lagoon that is confused with infinity. The study and commitment with the Environment where they build, the sensitization towards the environment looking for the integration of the projects with it. It is very important in this way of creating that the work lasts in time. This is what we are looking for: The Fusion of styles and languages; in the search for Harmony. The dialogue between tradition and modernity. And what obsesses this study is the cult of Detail: it is right here where the difference of a great project lies. What stands out in his works: Spatiality: the richness of the spaces as an objective in the design; opposing spaces, double heights, the perspectives they aim to create, their theatricality.

PHILOSOPHY
Riva The only protagonist of the work is its owner. It is he who will enjoy it. For ISMAEL MERIDA ARQUITECTOS a good project is not the one that dazzles our ego, but the one in which we understood his dream, understood what he needed and gave him an answer. That is why we do not have a pre-established style. The form, its aesthetics, will result from this relationship.
Today they say they are fortunate to be immersed in projects that excite them, from an exclusive complex of villas in Ibiza, to a luxury hotel on the golden mile, passing through the first urbanization of villas in Marbella, where the streets are roads, there is no asphalt, there are no cars, only gardens, sports and walks; cars circulate underground: quality of life.

The List

Regarding the reform of
Inheritance Tax in Andalusia By Santiago de la Cruz Following the coming into force of Decree-Law 1/2019 on 11 April 2019, inheritance tax has ceased to be a headache for families in Andalusia. For Inheritances, there will be a 99% reduction on the amount of tax payable for properties acquired due to the death of a spouse or direct relative and the regional reductions that were already in force will be maintained, i.e. the 1,000,000 euro reduction on the tax base so that properties acquired through an inheritance up to that maximum amount are not adversely affected, because otherwise these would end up having to pay 1% instead of paying no tax, as explained in the preamble to the regulation. Additionally, for Donations, there will also be a reduction of 99% of the tax charge for acquisitions from spouses and direct relatives meaning that in practice, this tax is practically eliminated for these groups of taxpayer. The regulation has been well-received in the cosmopolitan province of Malaga, especially along its coast, where citizens from all over the world live, reside and periodically visit and own property and assets. We can now tell them that they too have reason to receive this regulation gladly and celebrate the gradual evolution of the perception of inheritance tax from an investment obstacle or barrier to an “almost” forgotten obstacle or barrier. We’re making progress, but we’re not there yet, as we will now see. In 2014, the Ruling of the European Union Court of Justice put an end to inheritance tax discrimination with respect to citizens of the EU because up until that ruling, Inheritance Tax had to be paid on all inheritance and donations from non-residents in Spain applying the State regulations, without the possibility of applying the tax benefits of the autonomous regions. If this ruling hadn’t been passed, Law 26/2014 wouldn’t have been approved and if this Law hadn’t been approved, EU citizens or those from the European Economic Area (EEA) with investments in Andalusia would not be able to benefit from the discounts of the autonomous region of Andalusia today. So today, for an inheritance where the deceased and the heir (parents and children or husband and wife, for example) are EU residents, it will be possible to apply 58
the tax allowances of Andalusian (99% reduction of the tax charge for properties acquired as a result of the death of spouses and direct relatives) if there is some connection with this Region. But, as we were saying, we are making progress but we still have a long way to go. Nationals of countries outside the scope of the European Union or EEA are “still” discriminated against and although various sentences have openly declared that the discrimination of non-EU citizens violates the essential principle of the free movement of capital and consequently EU Law, the legislative change is not “yet” sufficient with respect to these people. The Supreme Court has already expressed its opinion, accepting that the discrimination of non-EU citizens is not possible, thus forcing the acceptance of voluntary tax payments by non-EU citizens with the tax allowances of the Autonomous Region with which they are related. When dealing with the scope of the principle of the free movement of capital, the CJEU did not hesitate to confirm that the 2014 ruling not only eliminated the discrimination of citizens of the EU and the EEA but directly eliminated discrimination regardless of whether the citizen was from the EU or EEA or outside of the EU. There are already binding consultations from the General Directorate of Taxes prioritising EU Law and emphasising the non-exclusion of citizens who do not belong to the EU or EEA. But the Tax Agency is being stubborn and continues to resist the change and in spite of the indications from the European Union through the Commission, it is still fighting it in the Supreme Court’s Chamber for appeals against administrative decisions to see if it can continue to discriminate against non-EU citizens. Hopefully we will soon be able to say, with no ongoing administrative battles, that all citizens -without exceptionswith a connection to Andalusia can benefit from the tax reductions on inheritance and donations contained in the new Andalusian regulations and we can make Marbella and the whole of Malaga even more attractive -if that’s possible- and I am sure it is possible from a tax point of view.

What’s the true essence of ANTIMA Homes? Why that name? To quote 1937 Nobel Prize winner Albert Szent, “Discovery consists of looking at the same thing as everyone else, and thinking something different.’’ This point of view forms part of our philosophy: Each day we are looking around us to find the extraordinary in the ordinary; the new in the old.” We see the potential in the houses we purchase; the possibilities of creating a unique home. It’s in our DNA: the beauty of new beginnings. This is the legacy of an Antima home. Through this concept and the ambition for new beginnings, Antima was created. We are a family union, incorporating past, present and future generations of the Bredmoe family, and following the path my father taught me: that the essence of our company should be grounded on Generations of Trust. We created the Antima name from the first syllable of the second name of each of our children’s names: Sander Anton, Sivert Tinius, and Synne Marie; and so the brand was born. Each house you create is unique. In this one we’re in now, of colonial style, I can clearly see the display of talent that lies in every detail, from the choice of the location, the interior and exterior renovation of the house, the landscaping, the careful selection of materials and the exquisite taste in decoration... A great team.Tell us, for those who don’t know you... Where did your passion for creating unique homes with the firm ANTIMA come from? Many years ago, I learned that life was more than work, phones and stock prices. I took my family on a long-promised world tour in a 35 metre Explorer yacht, where we learnt that the most important things in life are experiences. We had three kids all under 10 and together we built an amazing salt-water aquarium (we found shells, sand, water…); we went diving for pearls, we saw sand turtles on the beach… all things that awakened our senses, just as our homes do. Our aspiration is that owners of Antima homes can feel alive and enjoy every single detail of their new home. From the moment they wake up to a view of the magnificent sunrise, until bedtime when they can relax with an outlook to the changing hues of the Mediterranean sky at night. Our homes are set in some of the most fantastic locations, always just a few minutes from the beaches of Marbella. We are building environments which evoke the senses: intimate interiors with refined decors and handmade furniture, using exceptional quality of materials and harmoniously intertwined colour schemes. We work hard to synergise the spaces with the natural environment: creating impressive landscapes, like melodies which rise and fall as a waterfall.. .and yet we always take care to create homes that are incredibly functional and comfortable. You’re specialised in ‘Prime Location’ projects and investments... You’re currently opting specifically for the areas of Nueva Andalucía, La Cerquilla, Los Naranjos Golf, Las Brisas... What is the expected growth of your market? What future perspectives do you have on the Costa del Sol? Since 2016 there has been a strong demand for the construction of new villas and 62

modern apartments in the Marbella area: more specifically in Nueva Andalucía and Las Brisas. And although reports show a slowdown in sales on the Costa del Sol in the second half of last year (2018), they predict a recovery towards the end of this year. Malaga has always been a spearhead in the Spanish real estate market, and one of the most dynamic property investment destinations. However, it’s important to mention factors that have caused intermittent ups and downs in this market, such as the fall in sales suffered by the shock of everything related to Brexit, and the subsequent growth in demand from Scandina-
vian customers, which lead to market recovery. A general upturn in the economy in 2019 together with a decline in debt, lower interest and unemployment rates, have together reinforced the acceleration in the market during these first six months. In Antima’s case, we move in a slightly more stable market. Our owners belong in the high purchase power niche, and are usually impervious to economic changes and price points. How quickly can you make your business grow? We have had exponential growth since 2015 and according to our calculations, are set to grow by
35% during 2020, thanks to new projects that we have underway. I like the perspective you have of looking for the diamond in the rough, the beauty, the potential, and you opted for Marbella as a city to expand and develop your businesses. What’s your strategy for acquiring a villa, for example? Do you only do this on the Costa del Sol, or do you have other areas of expansion in sight? Location is a crucial factor in the decision-making process when choosing our next project; although everything is based on intuition. When EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 63

I visit a potential property, I can quickly detect its potential: I like to call it a connection, just like love at first sight… it’s a second, a click, and immediately I know: this will be an Antima home. Of course it’s important that we do not leave out the important economic details that need to be considered before making the final decision. We currently have projects in Marbella, Ibiza, London, Oslo and Los Angeles. Helene Forbes Flenei, co-founder of Christians & Hennie (Interior Designer), met your father. She says that he was a very strong, solid, trustworthy man... and she describes him as a gentleman. I suppose that, like father, like son, and the result of the passion and work of the Brendmoe family can be enjoyed in each of ANTIMA’s creations. Do you feel identified with your father? With his values? A value that your father and you share. My father instilled and educated me with his strong values: respect, honesty, sincerity, family, loyalty and trust. These values have accompanied me in every step I have taken in my life, whether in business or in my personal and family relationships. These are the values that I share with my wife, Hanne, and that our children have learned and inherited from us. In addition, our philosophy and passion have driven the growth of the Antima family. We have carefully selected great professionals who share our values. Together we are a strong and stable team working as one. I can proudly say that Antima is a family company.

When did you create Antima Charity Foundation, and why? As Henry David Thoreau said: “What is the use of a house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?” Antima Charity Foundation was created in 2015. Collaborating with different organisations around the world, we campaign against poverty, animal rights and environmental issues. I consider myself a very lucky person. I believe that life has given me a great deal and that every day it continues to offer me new opportunities to grow. And because of this I strongly believe in giving back; in projecting my gratitude and supporting these causes with my little grain of sand. What prompted you to invest in the Costa del Sol? I have spent many summers in Marbella with my family. We loved to come and enjoy the climate, the people, the food, and I knew the area very well. So when we decided to grow Antima and start building in beautiful enclaves around Europe, it was something we didn’t even have to think twice about, we wanted to be able to spend as much time here as possible. After living in Marbella for some years, do you feel integrated in the Spanish culture? Absolutely. Food, sunshine, and a convivial atmosphere, are amongst the external factors that have contributed to an improved quality of life for us. But even more important, as a family, is how quickly our children have adapted to life here. This was the definitive in making us feel part of this wonderful city. Do you speak Spanish?

Helene Forbes Flenei, co-founder of Christians & Hennie (Interior Designer), conoció a tú padre.

he exterior of these luxury yachts is a challenge in itself when navigating the waves, while the interior could be considered the ultimate expression of luxury attainable to very few. Equipped down to the last detail, they can be seen in the marinas of coastal cities all over the world, although they are built to live intense adventures on the high seas. Russian oligarchs, royalty, important businessmen, and Asian or Arab multi-millionaires are the owners of these vessels that fill the seas and oceans with ostentation. They are the most luxurious boats, and their owners have turned them into authentic temples of rest and relaxation. LADY MOURA, $210 MILLION Lady Moura is a private yacht owned by Nasser Ibrahim Al-Rashid, the advisor to the Saudi royal family. With a degree and a PhD from the University of Texas, this Arab tycoon is a patron who dedicates part of his fortune to promoting culture throughout the world. Bush, have been on this ship. RISING SUN, $290 MILLION This superyacht was designed by Jon Bannenberg and built by the German shipyard, Lürssen, for the American entrepreneur and philanthropist, Larry Ellison, who is the founder of the technology company, Oracle Corporation. In March of this year, Ellison was included as the fourth richest person in the USA and the seventh in the world, with an estimated fortune of more than $66 billion. One of his latest donations was to the University of Southern California, to which he gave $200 million in order to create a cancer research centre. The yacht is one of the largest in the world. It has a surface area of 8,000 m2 and 82 rooms distributed on various levels. One singular feature is the basketball court on the main deck, which can also serve as a helipad.
PELORUS, $300 MILLION Pelorus measures 115 metres in length and is so large that it houses a small collection of smaller vessels. Its owner is the Chinese tycoon, Sammy Tak Lee, the largest shareholder in the Shaftesbury Group, dedicated to real estate operations. According to Forbes, in February this year his assets amounted to almost $4 billion. The yacht was designed by Tim Heywood, and built by Lürssen in Germany. It has two helipads, zero-speed stabilisers, and a mobile wall in the master suite which can be lowered to convert the room into a private terrace. MOTOR YACHT A, $300 MILLION Designed by Philippe Starck and engineered by the naval architect, Martin Francis, the owner of this ostentatious yacht is the Russian entrepreneur, Andrey Melnichenko. His personal fortune is estimated at $13.9 billion, which positions him in the 90th position in the world list of millionaires in Forbes magazine. The master suite of his yacht measures 2,500 square feet. Additionally, it has three swimming pools, six suites, and sliding walls to transform the spaces according to the time of day. More than 30 crew members provide service to the entrepreneur and his guests. AL SAID, $305 MILLION Al Said is one of the most impressive vessels in the world. Its owner is the Sultan Qaboos of Oman, a key figure in the equilibrium between the East and the West. With interiors designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon, the yacht is noteworthy for its concert hall, which is large enough to accommodate an orchestra of fifty musicians. In addition, it can reach up to 22 knots, and has a capacity for 70 guests and 154 crew members. SERENE, $330 MILLION Serene’s owner is Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, who also serves as the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, among other positions. This superyacht has a surface area of almost 4,500 m2, distributed on seven decks. There is a cinema on board to see the latest releases, a spa to relax in and even a wood oven to make pizzas at sea.
DILBAR, $600 MILLION Dilbar is a superyacht that combines elegance, sophistication and glamour. Built by the German shipyard, Lürssen, and designed by Espen Oeino, its owner is the Russian tycoon of Uzbek origin, Alisher Usmanov. With a fortune of about 13 billion dollars, Usmanov was one of the shareholders of Arsenal Football Club, which led him to become the third richest man in Russia. Dilbar can sail at a speed of over 22 knots, and accommodate 40 guests and a crew of at least 80 people. Its indoor pool of over 180 cubic metres, is the largest of all luxury yachts built to date. AZZAM, $600 MILLION Azzam, with its almost 180 metres in length, is one of the longest superyachts in the world. Its owner is Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current President of the United Arab Emirates, who ranks third in the list of richest rulers on the planet, according to Forbes magazine. A sports enthusiast, mainly of horse and camel racing, which could be what led him to acquire a yacht that can reach the impressive speed of 30 knots. Regarding its interior, the designer Christophe Leoni has defined it as “sophisticated and luxurious, with a style of the Empire at the turn of the century.”
ECLIPSE, $1.5 BILLION Eclipse is owned by the Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, whose fortune comes mainly from oil. Abramovich is also the owner of the Premier League football club, Chelsea. Among the billionaire’s indulgences are luxury yachts. Eclipse measures 170 metres, has two helipads, eleven guest suites, two swimming pools, a disco, several jacuzzis, three boats and a mini submarine which can descend to around 50 metres. For this luxury vessel to work perfectly, a crew of 70 people is needed. Built by the shipbuilder Blohm+Voss, based in Germany, the vessel is an authentic refuge. It has modern intrusion detection systems, armoured glass and even a missile defense system. It is said that Abramovich is a generous man, who lends the yacht to the players of Chelsea F.C. on request, with the condition that they give an excellent performance in their matches. Despite the immense size of these superyachts, it is not easy to come across one of them sailing on the high seas. Those who are lucky enough to have seen them pass by can understand instantly why a few days sailing can indisputably become the best possible vacation.

do inglés Shaftesbury, dedicado a operaciones inmobiliarias.
EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 77

anorama, Marbella’s longest-established real estate agency, was founded in 1970, and has earned a reputation for providing a highly professional and quality service that stands alongside those of the best agencies in the world. What most people are unaware of is that Christopher Clover, Panorama’s owner and Managing Director, comes from a three generation-old family of real estate agents and entrepreneurs. The fourth generation of professionals, Christopher’s children, Alex and Katinka, are also key members of Panorama’s team who joined the company after the turn of this century.
Christopher’s grandfather, Burtt Byron Clover, was one of the first golf course developers in the United States, and a developer of single-family homes in Chicago. In 1.904, he founded B.B. Clover and Company, a real estate and property development company. In 1952, when B.B. retired, he opened Clover Realty Company in Charlottesville, Virginia with his son, Christopher’s father, Williston (Bill) L. Clover, who continued the family tradition for over 40 years. In 1968 Bill bought Panorama International, an international real estate company based in Washington D.C.
Panorama International was the first company to offer international properties and developments to investors in the United States. The company distinguished itself by selling second and retirement homes in Mexico, the Caribbean, France, Morocco, and most notably Spain. It established the first international real estate office in Marbella in 1970 and shortly thereafter, offices in Mexico City and Mallorca. It was the first real estate agency to ever organise inspection flights to the Costa del Sol. The buyers came in droves, inspired by Bill EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 81

Armed with a strong linguistic background and after gaining extensive experience, Chris arrived in Spain in February 1973, taking charge of the Marbella office. In that same year, Chris expanded the Spanish office to concentrate on the listing and sale of prestige properties in the Marbella area to an international market. In 1975 Panorama International closed its Washington DC office due to a combination of a strong recession and new securities legislation that made it impossible to continue the business as it had been originally structured. RACE FOR WATER A year in review
Swiss fine watchmaker Montres Breguet and Race for Water, a foundation to preserve water, held a conference in Lausanne, Switzerland. The two partners marked the first year of collaboration and talked about the innovative solutions that can be adopted before plastic waste enters the marine environment. Breguet joined Race for Water as the main sponsor of “Odyssey 2017-2021” with a crucial mission for the oceans. Breguet committed to support the Race for Water and to contribute to raising awareness among the decision-makers and general public, 86
as well as educating the young generations. The Race for Water vessel, powered by a mix of solar, hydrogen, and kite energies, has travelled with stopovers in several islands and coastal cities demonstrating that clean energy transition is a reality. Plastic waste is the problem and the solution. The Race for Water scientific research proved that “plastic islands” do not exist. Micro particles of plastic drift in the ocean; while only 1% of the plastic remains at the surface. The Foundation is working towards offering solution for preserving the oceans from plastic pollution, a genuine envi-
ronmental disaster on a planetary scale. “The solution is on land”, explains Marco Simeoni, Founder and CEO of the Race for Water Foundation. “Combined action is essential in preventing plastic waste from reaching the waterways and the oceans through the development of sustainable social models and business models that inspire its collection. We have come up with a technology capable of transforming end-of-life plastics into energy. The sale of this energy will allow the community to pay the street collectors and encourage them to pick up end-of-life plastics”.

MARINE BY BREGUET, AN OUTSTANDING MARITIME COLLECTION Marine by Breguet ticks to the rhythm of the ocean swell and the light currents of the trade winds: a combination of a timeless aesthetic and technical performance in Breguet’s time-honoured tradition. This collection is firmly rooted in the fundamentals of Breguet’s heritage. Back in the late Eighteenth century, Abraham-Louis Breguet, determined the essentials in the art of fashioning timepieces: reliability and legibility. His many technical innovations, were designed to optimize chronometry and its applications. In 1815, King Louis XVIII of France recognized the exceptional qualities of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s marine chronometers, appointing him Chronometer-maker to the French royal navy. The success of the royal expeditions was in part dependent on the reliability of his naval watches – both a great honour and a heavy responsibility. The links between the House of Breguet and the French navy are as tangible as they have always been.

Glashütte Original Legendary design in fiery orange
Glashütte Original presents new annual edition: Sixties and Sixties Panorama Date. The Sixties line presents legendary 1960s design and embodies the art of Glashütte Original watchmaking, whose traditions date back to 1845. Lively and extrovert, dedicated to the spirit of the times today, it is certainly not something for fans of nostalgia. It was only in 2018 that the popular line saw the first of its striking annual editions. The fascinating green versions inspired watch and design enthusiasts all over the world. Today Glashütte Original delivers an exciting sequel to this success story: for its annual edition 2019, the German manufactory presents the Sixties and Sixties Panorama Date in multi-faceted orange. The new orange Sixties and Sixties Panorama Date underscore the line’s unmistakable retro-chic identity. The watch face presents its signature curvature, from the dial and the hands to the sapphire crystal, anti-reflective on both side. Arabic numerals, diamond-cut indexes, manually applied hour markers and hands highlighted with Super-LumiNova add harmonious accents. Idiosyncratic and yet stylish – this holds true not just for the details but for the dial as a whole. Starting from a golden yellow at the centre, the colour flows across the curved surface, changing to fiery orange and red before reaching the black perimeter. The result is luminous vivacity, warmth and energy. Credit for this impressive ensemble of different hues – also known as the dégradé effect – goes to the experts at Glashütte Original’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim. Blancpain is reinterpreting its Fifty Fathoms, the iconic diver’s watch that has inspired the entire genre since its launch in 1953. The 2019 edition retains the sporty and distinguished character of its peers, to which it adds a touch of chic and high-tech with a red gold case and a ceramic dial. The Fifty Fathoms is one of Blancpain’s emblematic models. Its roots in history are such that the Manufacture makes it a point of honour to continue developing it in such a way as to satis-
fy every expectation of diving and water sports enthusiasts. This year, Blancpain has decided to introduce a stylish version by opting for a precious case in satin-brushed red gold. For the first time in the collection, the dial of this new product is attired in blue ceramic. Through this unique combination of materials and colours, Blancpain achieves a bold double alliance. Resolutely technical with its ceramic dial, as well as luxurious with its red gold case and the
meticulous finishing of its movement, the new Fifty Fathoms Automatique is teamed with a blue calf leather strap, an additional detail evoking the inseparable link between Blancpain and the splendours of the seabed. DR. ANA PEDROL AND DR. BRUNO PEREIRA THE DIRECTORS OF ØNE SHARE A VISION:
We believe that the smile and the face mirror who we are and how we feel. If we feel sad we look down, our shoulders also point down, or when we feel excited our eyes are wide open and our body energized. Scientific studies show that it also works the other way around, meaning that, our outside also reflects in our inside. By changing the body posture for example, it affects how we feel. Here is an easy example: if we take a deep breath and focus our attention in our breathing, it relaxes us immediately. Or if we bring the chin up, our chest out and our shoulders up for a while, super heroe posture makes us feel more confident immediately. The same thing happens with the smile. We can start to change how we feel by just smiling. This tells a lot about the power of the smile and how it can shape our life’s. If we don’t feel comfortable about our smile we won’t be a confident person. This issue can shape our personality, career and opportunities. We truly believe that “we don’t smile because we are happy, we are happy because we smile” and that’s what makes our profession so passionate.
Øne Clinic is dedicated to facial aesthetics, treating the smile and the face as a whole, unique for every person respecting nature with and holistic and organic approach. Traditionally, when someone tries to improve his or her smile they often go to a dentist they might have heard about. Once the smile is treated, more often than not, they realize that the teeth are too white and too big and perfectly aligned and there is a lack of harmony and balance to the face. The smile is the centrepiece of beauty, and with that in mind the smile needs to balance and enhance facial aesthetics, not detract it. When the aesthetic dentist works side to side with the plastic surgeon to enhance facial aesthetics, the outcome is more natural since balance and harmony all starts with the face and both specialists work towards one goal. The lips and teeth cannot be treated separately, otherwise, we will never achieve a truly organic and natural result. By working together, the Aesthetic dentist can create beautiful smiles that harmonize with the face. Øne is more than a clinic it’s a place designed to take care of the wellbeing.

Along the way, Robert developed a trusted reputation for quality and discretion, and has been honored to handle some of the finest gemstones in existence, including the Cleopatra Sapphire, the Heart of the Kingdom Ruby, and the 665 Carat Imperial Emerald. Robert further refined his expertise by traveling the world and learning from the great masters of different disciplines. Robert befriended Master Diamond Cutter Gabi Tolkowsky, from whom he learned the artistry of different cutting styles. He also learned how Gabi cut the largest blue diamond in the world. In Bogota, Colombia, Robert studied under Master Emerald Cutter Adolfo Argotty. From Thailand to America, he learned the art of cutting sapphires and rubies. Robert’s wide-ranging experiences in the industry have given him a keen eye for finding the finest cutters, artisans and master craftsmen. He has spent his life assembling a team whose combined experience, talent, and passion to achieve beyond the limits of today’s bounds has served to produce flawless color gem treasures. Recently, Robert was honored by having a necklace specially selected for permanent placement in the National Gem Collection at The Smithsonian Institute. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 95

e’re with Angelika Legowik at the ELISABETTA FRANCHI Boutique in Puerto Banús, which she has directed and managed for years. Tell us how you started out in the fashion world. At the age of 17, I started travelling with my mother to Milan to see the Gianni Versace collections. She had the Versace brand in Germany. It was an incredible, unforgettable experience and I learned a lot. It was my ‘fashion university’. When I was 26, I decided to open my first store in Marbella, and the brands sold were La Perla, Valentino, Cavalli, amongst many others. 7 years ago, I discovered Elisabetta Franchi’s collection, and it was love at first sight - a love so intense that last year I decided to open the store with this brand in Puerto Banús. What do you like most about your business? What I like most is acquiring the new collections and doing the visual merchandising of the store. I also have a passion for organising and preparing all the fashion shows and events. Could you describe in detail what a normal day in your life is like? My day starts very early. I do yoga or sports for half an hour. Then I have breakfast with my daughter and take her to school. From there, I go to my stores in Puerto Banús, and in the afternoon, I devote time to my family and friends. I also do the shopping and organise dinner. It’s my family space. How did the idea of setting up in Puerto Banús come about? I’ve had stores in Puerto Banús for almost 15 years, for me there is no better place in Marbella to go shopping. Banús is the most famous port in Spain and Elisabetta Franchi is a fashion reference in Puerto Banús, because it has a wide range of party wear and extravagant, unique garments in general. It’s what people look for in Puerto Banús. Could you define what success is for you? Success for me is being truly happy in life. This means working in something you love, because then you don’t look on it as work, it’s pleasure. Having time for family and friends is real success.
With everything you’ve lived and experienced, what do you think the best thing about being a female entrepreneur is? The best thing about being a female entrepreneur is that I can organise my day to suit myself, and I personally need to manage my time to work, and my time to be with family and friends. It hasn’t always been that way. What advice would you give to a woman who wants to set up a business, like you, but is hesitant? My advice is not to overthink everything. You have to take risks in life in order to achieve something. My dream was to have the Elisabetta Franchi store, and I’ve made it come true. Is it complicated being a businesswoman and a mother at the same time? It’s not complicated, if you know how to organise yourself. I believe your mother is also involved in the world of fashion. What have you learned from her? That’s right, my mother owns the Philipp Plein stores in Puerto Banús and Mallorca. She’s always had businesses. And the main thing I’ve learned from her is not to be afraid of new challenges or changes. My mother has been, and still is, an important role model in my life. Very famous people visit Puerto Banús. Who have you met in your store and what can you tell us? The celebrities: Eva Longoria, Ana Obregón, Georgina Rodríguez, Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend, etc. and lots of famous bloggers... Do you consider yourself lucky? It depends. Is it luck that I own the store of my dreams? It’s not luck, it’s work and perseverance and, of course, having a good eye for fashion. It’s many years of experience. Luck is being my daughter’s mother - such a special girl who helps me to change, and shows me how to live life every day. What do you recommend from your new collection? I recommend everything. In the new collection there are beautiful jackets, trousers in all cuts and colours, and dresses for any occasion. Elisabetta has everything a woman could wish for to feel sexy, confident and very feminine in every season. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 99

LEGOWIK Por Rafael Barrio
¿Qué has aprendido de ella?

FASHION SHOWCASES ITS ALLURE IN AN AUTUMN FULL OF
glamour&
sophistication After the summer months, when we tend to opt for light, comfortable clothes, now is the time to fill our wardrobes with the glamour and sophistication of the new autumn trends. This year, the autumn season comes loaded with romantic garments, with a special focus on sleeves and marked shoulders. The designers have opted for oversize volumes, sometimes tight-fitting at the waist, maxi-bows and satin garments. Plain colours or patterns, as an antidote to the imminent falling of the leaves, somewhat reminiscent of the ‘90s, where accessories become a must to add the final touches to a look which makes a woman feel feminine and confident.

Juan Vidal Juan Vidal, in contrast, has opted for black nappa, with an evocation of a pop and folk character. Oranges, reds, pinks, blues and greens also appear in his colour palette, with textured checks, beautiful embroidery or silk prints. The combination of fabrics results in contemporary cocktail dresses with an Asian touch, which are reminiscent of Spanish high fashion.
Marcos Luengo For his part, Marcos Luengo proposes a mix of velvet with sequins, offering silk velvets as alternatives for elegant, sophisticated parties. Pleated lurex and ostrich feathers adorn mauves, reds, violets, sepias, greens, blues and yellows. A feminine, timeless colour spectrum that creates a splendid woman in every respect.
Roberto Verino Fancy a trip this autumn? Roberto Verino makes it possible by offering a look into the enigmatic Egypt, with cargo trousers and linen Saharan jackets. Sophisticated silk and chiffon, wool and satin cotton combined with hand-embroidered lace, as well as the elegance of the lingerie garments, handkerchief skirts, and tulle adorned with gemstones.

Roberto Torretta has focused once again on timeless garments, with masculine jackets or double-breasted coat dresses of masculine cuts. Versatile garments, in light fabrics, and evening dresses with patterns, or a touch of rocker style, for women who cannot hide the energy that always accompanies them.
Roberto Diz, in contrast, empowers women with a refined style, without sacrificing sensuality. In a tribute to the great French designers of the ‘80s, he presents long, red-carpet style dresses in a wide variety of fabrics and a colour palette that ranges from black to blue, through burgundies and metallic reflections. And as an avant-garde touch of colour, gloves in fluorescent green.
Ulises Mérida Ulises Mérida proposes clothes that embrace the woman without marking her, with magnificent fabrics such as tulle, satin and chiffon. Light-hearted women in purple and yellow, with greens and oranges. A universe of colour so that anyone wearing his clothes feels comfortable with them and in their own skin.

orma Jeane, the daughter of Gladys Baker, a woman of a nervous disposition who had been abandoned by two husbands, was born in Los Angeles in 1926 and spent the first weeks of her life sleeping in a drawer. When her mother is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, she begins her long pilgrimage from one adoptive family to another until she ends up in an orphanage… I’m not going to expand on her sad childhood and traumatic adolescence, nor on the melodramatic stories that so often precede the road to success in the entertainment world. I will briefly highlight a few words that sum up some thoughts that demonstrate how she handled being a woman in a man’s world, and her sad childhood:
“When I was a child,” Marilyn said, “maybe at the age of 6 or 7, I dreamed that I was in a church without any clothes on, naked, but without feeling any shame.” Her interpretation of the dream was: “I probably wanted to take my clothes off because I was ashamed of them.” They were orphan’s dresses. Naked, she was the same as the other girls. The fact is, however, that Marilyn naked was not like any other girl: she was pure feminine perfection, and she knew it. Norma Jeane Mortenson was born on June 1st, 1926, at the Los Angeles General Hospital. She never knew her father, and it is said that this deeply marked the personality of a beautiful, intelligent, hypersensitive, flirtatious, dissatisfied woman, who was constantly seeking the safeguard of a protective man. The absence of a father figure and the weak presence of a mentally unstable mother meant that Norma Jeane spent her childhood with adoptive parents and in foster homes. At 16 she married James Dougherty to avoid the orphanage. She later married Joe DiMaggio (who loved her deeply) and Arthur Miller... Both these marriages would also fail. It is rumored that the list of Marilyn’s lovers was endless: Elia Kazan, Marlon Brando, Tony Curtis, the Kennedy brothers (John and Robert), Frank Sinatra...
Marilyn and Arthur Miller were together until 1961. He was the man who valued her talent the most, and who understood the void that suffocated her.
A victim of the STAR SYSTEM of the golden years of Hollywood, Marilyn sold her body to several producers, and in her memoirs she acknowledged having slept with executives of the main film studios, such as Joseph Schenck, co-founder of 20th Century Fox, who opened the doors of stardom for her. The star always felt trapped and typecast in the role of the dumb, frivolous, sensual blonde, but fought until her final breath to be able to play more complex characters. Marilyn loved literature. This could explain the fact that one of her husbands was the famous playwright, Arthur Miller, and 114 EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE
Marilyn EL03.indd 114

that her third and last husband and great friend, Truman Capote, was the author of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” a novella he wrote and dedicated to Marilyn, even though it was ultimately Audrey Hepburn who starred in the film.
“the blonde”
However, was anything but dumb... It is said that her IQ was above average, and that her intellectual curiosity led her to own a vast library filled to capacity with volumes (of politics, philosophy, literature...) in which she made notes on the margins. And yet the image she projected was quite the opposite, more along the lines of the roles of the superficial woman and “husband-hunter” in which Hollywood typecast her. Marilyn was a character she created by herself, with enormous ingenuity. There was something magical, yet despondent at the same time, about her. She was the most desired woman of the twentieth century. Her measurements: 94-58-92, 1.66 m and 53 kg... She shocked men and women alike when she confessed that she did not wear underwear, or that Chanel No. 5 was all she wore in bed. In the cinema, despite the praise of the critics and the compelling evidence of the screen, it was not until her part in NIAGARA that she obtained her first important role. The whole world would discover that Marilyn Monroe was much more than just a simple actress. On August 5th, 1962, at 4:55 a.m., the head of the Los Angeles Police Department, Jack Clemmons, received a call from Dr. Greenson saying that the actress had died. On arriving at her home, Clemmons observed a series of inconsistencies in the testimonies of the doctors and her housekeeper, who was in a state of nerves. It was never discovered why she took so long to notify the authorities... Her sudden and mysterious death at a crucial moment in her personal life made her ETERNAL. Actresses, models and singers have all at some time wanted to put themselves in the shoes of the protagonist of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”.
THESE PHOTOGRAPHS OF AN ICON AND THE QUOTES THAT IMMORTALISE HER REMAIN AS A LEGACY. “I like to be totally dressed, or if not, totally naked. I don’t like half measures.” “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” “A wise girl knows her limits, a smart girl knows that she has none.” “I don’t believe that a man is worth so much as to have two women, or that a woman is worth so little as to be second choice.” “Don’t boast of having been the first in my heart if you weren’t intelligent enough to be the last.” “I don’t mind living in a man’s world, as long as I can be a woman in it.”

C.C.B Luce: “The love goddes” Who never found any love.
EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 117

QUIRÓNSALUD PRESTIGE, VANGUARD AND QUALITY HEALTH CARE
Q
uirónsalud Marbella is synonymous with prestige, vanguard and quality health care in the field of private medicine, as an indisputable example in Marbella, where the Hospital Group makes a clear commitment to expansion and development, as with the launch of its new specialised care and diagnostic test centre, and the recent renovations of the Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella, which has a proven track record and reputation in our area of influence, as well as an outstanding level of patient satisfaction. Its involvement with the local population has made it worthy of being the hospital of reference for the community. Although here we are focusing on the area of Marbella, the group in Marbella also has the affiliated Quirónsalud Fuengirola Medical Centre, which covers a comprehensive range of medical-surgical specialties, an ambulance service, home healthcare and a 24-hour emergency service, for the neighbouring towns of Fuengirola and Mijas Costa.
QUIRÓNSALUD IN MARBELLA Returning to our area of influence, and in keeping with the philosophy and ideology of the group, “Your health comes first”, Quirónsalud Marbella counts on a large team of the very best professionals, experts and specialists, with regard to human resources, in addition to the most advanced technology in material assets. The firm commitment and the investment made in the field of research, development and innovation are also indispensable, and their results can be seen in the day-to-day healthcare services. In addition to this, a management policy and system which ensure the best quality services for the entire local community. The Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella occupies an area of 8,000m2, with the most advanced technological equipment in image diagnosis, examinations and special treatments, minimally invasive procedure units, with complete surgery and critical care areas, not forgetting other areas which will be mentioned below.
All this, in a strategic hub for the leading private health centre of the Costa del Sol. With good reason, the figures and statistics endorse us: every year Quirónsalud Marbella records 20,000 hospital stays, 100,000 medical consultations, 75,000 emergencies and 5,000 surgical interventions. With these guarantees, Quirónsalud includes and covers all medical and surgical specialties in its Marbella centres, within an extensive range of services, among which it is worth noting its 24-hour Casualty and Emergency Service, the units of Obesity; Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery; Hyperbaric Medicine; Pain Treatment, Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy; Refractive Surgery, etc., and especially, for its acknowledged prestige, the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and lung disease or oncological surgery. It is worth noting that Marbella and the Costa del Sol Occidental are amongst the areas with the highest concentration and transit of vehicles

in the country, so it would seem essential that the area has a Traffic Unit, as in Quirónsalud Marbella. In this respect, the hospital has a multidisciplinary team, capable of diagnosing and treating injuries efficiently and in the shortest possible time. Their specialists provide the best health care for a full rehabilitation, and will handle the paperwork required by the insurance companies, for the comfort and tranquility of the injured. EXPANSION AND IMPROVEMENTS Precisely, and in this line of continuing to improve its facilities, the new hospitalisation area at the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital is already operational. The space is distributed in 13 rooms, of which 3 are suites. It occupies over 600 square metres, and is equipped with the most innovative medical care information systems and technical-digital advances which benefit and streamline doctor-patient-nursing relationships, making them smooth and constant. With this new step, the hospital centre, which occupies a privileged location on the beachfront at the entrance to the city of Marbella, on Severo Ochoa Avenue, has 80 rooms, the majority with sea views, which ensures an even more harmonious, warm, pleasant atmosphere. In order to get an idea of the scale of the improvements and investments made by Quirónsalud in its hospital in Marbella, we would highlight that one million euros has been invested in the 1,000 square metres of its new fourth floor alone. Thus, this area shares space with the Day Hospital, along with the newly-opened Nursing Station, which has been equipped with a novel patient-nurse communication system via video-calling.
DIGITAL ROOMS With the firm purpose of improving the patient’s experience and stay, the “digital room” project has been implemented in Quirón Marbella, which, by extension, provides professionals with the most advanced tools for the diagnosis and treatment of different pathologies. Technology is one of the hallmarks which defines the improvement plan of the Quirónsalud Hospital Group, so Marbella is the cutting edge in this field. Each of the hospital rooms has a tablet device, with which patients can access the “Patient Portal”. This window contains all the information and data of their medical history. In a further step to being at the forefront, patients have the
possibility to surf the Internet and watch television. The rooms are equipped with the new “digital rooms” system, so that patients and their families have all kinds of entertainment at their disposal, such as on-demand video on the most popular digital platforms, such as Netflix, HBO and others. The automation system also allows the patient to switch on, regulate and switch off the lights in the room. HUMANISATION OF HOSPITALISATION As a preview, we can reveal that in the second phase of this hospital humanisation project, it will be possible for orders to be made to the kitchen and programmed times of pending medical tests consulted, as well as the entire history of the admission, from the room tablet. We are currently working on other advances related to the automation system, such as being able to control the temperature of the room, and the blinds. OBJECTIVES, PRIORITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS Quirónsalud Marbella has managed to incorporate prestigious doctors, invest in the best equipment to offer the latest technology in the private market, include new specialties and enhance existing ones, with a firm commitment to hotel facilities and services, and, in general, increase the operational efficiency of the hospital in order to offer the best possible service to the citizens of Marbella and the tourists and visitors to the area, so that they can benefit from the agreements that the hospital holds with the main national and international health insurers. In short: patient care is the priority for Quirónsalud Marbella. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 123

hat are Elite Spain’s success factors? Elite Spain, the Spanish Luxury Federation is revolutionizing the way the luxury and high-end sector work. We spoke with Sandra Andújar, CEO of this growing organization. What is the Spanish Luxury Federation Elite Spain? The Federation is registered on the National Registry of the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs. We are proud to unite over 80 exclusive companies in the luxury and high-end sector. These members are a series of international and national multi-sector companies working in fields such as Fashion, Cosmetics, Furniture, Decoration, Tourism, Gourmet, Airlines, Banks, Real Estate, Motors, etc. that meet specific and strict selection criteria. We do not see our members just as associates, The Spanish Luxury Federation Elite Spain’s DNA is to become an extension of each of our exclusive members. This mission means a sense of maximum involvement and belonging to improve and expand our members’ mission. We perform a duly market screening on the luxury and high-end sectors with the unique objective of unleashing the maximum potential of our members and offering an exclusive tailor-made service. Therefore, our team is a combination of luxury experts, creative and hands on individuals passionate about what they do. Are you betting on a new luxury concept? I wouldn’t use the word betting; we position the Federation at the top of the trends. This is our soul. Traditional Luxury clients want to establish a social position and to enjoy the best quality and designs. The price is not the most relevant factor, what matters is the ability to create a unique, personal, exclusive, and authentic product or service. This is still very important, yet, as new generations arrive, luxury tastes and consumption patterns evolve. Brands with style tell a story in which the main character is the client. Do you mean that there is more than only one type of luxury costumer? Today, luxury is highly segmented -customer centric- because of the fast pace changes in the fashion industry. We can see large companies sponsoring groundbreaking artists with very disruptive attitudes showing a way of life that breaks with the norm but at the same time this large firms are represented as well by the opposite side of profile; elegant and traditional. Yes, there is more than one type of luxury client. I honestly find fascinating to witness this evolution. Are you talking about Millenials? Yes, as well. Millennials are much more interested in living in the present moment, the experience than in long-lasting
ownership. These are new values that will guide the strategies of the sector. This is the reason why Elite Spain offers to our members a communication strategy, events, and marketing actions that are disruptive and consider not only the brand itself but also the story the brand tells. This is the underlying concept that shapes the philosophy of The Spanish Luxury Federation Elite Spain. What other changes you foresee in the luxury sector? I see as very important the developments the Social and Ecological responsibility. Quality and Elegance need to come attach to these ethical developments. These are magnificent trends that some of our members are following. Can you give us some examples? Stella McCartney, for example, is a pioneer fully committed to a circular economy that decreases the textile waste produced. But it is taking things even further with its unique Vegan Fashion, using textured cellulose instead of leather without affecting quality or style. I see that this social and ecological decision greatly improves the user experience and elevates the brand. Another example is Kevin Murphy, the luxury hair cosmetics company. Its beautiful packaging design is made with 100% recycled waste collected from the oceans. This company recycles 360 tons of plastic from the sea every year. I see this action as a great achievement. Those are not exceptions; it is a trend right? Exactly, that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a member of the Board of Directors of LVMH since 2017 is another great example. Before we were discussing about millennials, I am convinced that the new generations will not support companies that tolerate the destruction of the environment, and they will strongly influence positive changes in social and ecological responsibility. The Spanish Luxury Federation Elite Spain supports various charitable causes from the benefit of the most disadvantaged people to sustainability causes and our members are, with no doubt, the engine that further impulse such activities.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

he adventure starts in the air. As the plane approaches Paro Airport, travellers will be delighted with an incredible view of the city, as a beautiful valley nestling between two mountain ranges appears before their eyes. After being closed to tourism for years, until 1974, the most enigmatic territory of all Buddhist societies that has bloomed in the Himalayas reveals its ancestral traditions and the profound peace and harmony that its unexplored valleys radiate. Forests and deep, blue lakes, ever-snowy summits, majestic cliffs and simple wooden bridges all shape Bhutan’s unrivalled setting. The bright colours that decorate its houses, palaces and temples, and the always curious gaze of its people fill every corner of the city with light and life. THIMPHU, A CITY WITHOUT TRAFFIC LIGHTS In one of the highest valleys of the Himalayas, surrounded by hills on the shore of the Wang Chu River, lies the capital of Bhutan: Thimphu. Its wooded landscape made up of valleys and highlands, and its medieval feel, combined with the colourful facades of its buildings, make Thimphu a place that brings tradition and progress together in perfect harmony. Next to the Wang Chu River, travellers will be able to enjoy a relaxing traditional hot-stone bath, and savour an exquisite local dinner served with champagne, while admiring an incredible view of the city. Those who so wish will have the opportunity to enjoy a meal prepared with the best local products by a typical Bhutanese family. NUBA travellers will be able to visit the handmade paper factory, the centre for textile-manufacturing where traditional Bhutanese dresses are made, the painting school, the Institute of Traditional Medicine, or the craftsman district‌ They can also attend the archery competition, one of the greatest spectacles of the region, which is held in the Changlingmethang Stadium every year.

A NATURAL STAIRWAY TO THE HIMALAYAS It’s striking to cross the marvellous Dochula Pass, over 3,000m above the valley, and admire the breathtaking view of the highest peaks of the Eastern Himalayas. There awaits the solitary Gangkhar Puensum, the country’s highest peak and the highest unclimbed summit in the world. During the descent towards Punakha, the scenery begins to change. It’s a memorable experience to see the snowy summits and go through the little villages in the mountains, where yak-herders and Buddhist monks arrive, reciting their mantras on their way to unknown, remote monasteries. Mount Chomolhari crowns the north of Paro valley, and its glacial waters plunge between the profound canyons to form the Pa Chhu River. This is one of the most fertile valleys in the kingdom, and from here it’s easy to see the enormous area of terraced cultivated fields of the famous red rice, the star of the delicacies of Bhutanese cuisine. Once they arrive in Paro city, travellers will have the chance to go on horseback up to The Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang), the most important temple of the 2,000 that can be found scattered throughout the country. This monastery clings, literally, to a sheer cliff face 900m above the valley floor. Everyone who chooses to discover this mystic country will be able to enjoy, thanks to NUBA, some unforgettable experiences. From flying over the Gangtey valley in a hot-air balloon at sunrise, to hiking and horse-riding through the impressive valleys, or rafting in the Mo Chhu in the Punakha valley. Travellers will be able to experience firsthand the true essence of Bhutan by coming across a lamasery, or taking part in a private Buddhist meditation ceremony in Gangtey’s temples, in the monasteries of Punakha Dzong or Chimi Lhakhang. All of this, without sacrificing comfort, while staying in the most exclusive hotels. Bhutan is still an unexplored gem for those who decide to take a journey to connect with themselves, in one of the most privileged places on earth, where wealth isn’t measured by belongings, but by happiness.

I have been a proud member of Rotary Club Marbella Distrito 2203 Rotary Spain for 10 years. I represented our club as Vice President and secretary 2017-2018 and as President 2018-2019 and committee of the board Rotary Year 2019-2020 as a Former president and Public Relation and Membership advisor of Zone 9 Distrito 2203 Rotary Spain. Rotary is a global network of 1.2 M neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves. Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision, for more than 114 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world and stay committed to the end. Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. Our 35,000 plus clubs work together to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene, save mothers and children. Support education. Grow local economies. We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Rotary club started with the vision of one man Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23rd of February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of its members. “Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves” said our founder Paula Harris. We were truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on
six continents. Today, members in nearly every country work to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems. We persevere in tough times. During World War II, Rotary clubs in Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain are forced to disband. Despite the risks, many continued to meet informally, and after the war, Rotary members came together to rebuild their clubs and their countries. We are committed to service, and we are not afraid to dream big and set bold goals. We began our gift against Polio in 1979 with a project top immunise 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, Polio remains endemic in only 2 countries Afghanistan and Pakistan, - Down from 125 in 1988.
