For ten days in September Falmouth will be an explosion of sight and sound – we have lit the fuse and SPLASH 2012 is about to ignite!

About the Falmouth BID The Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID) is a not-for-profit company responsible for delivering a number of innovative projects that aim to improve the trading environment of Falmouth. It is business-led, with over 400 businesses being part of it, following extensive consultation, ballot and overwhelming ‘yes’ vote. Numerous initiatives have been delivered for the benefit of businesses

Falmouth will be abuzz as seriously A-list authors and ludicrously talented top illustrators gather for a weekend of words, art and creativity. This festival within a festival really does have something for everyone: adults, children, aspiring writers and even dog lovers will find events to raise a smile and quicken the heart. Expect, in no particular order, to have your funny bone tickled, your curiosity piqued, your jaw dropped, your eyebrows raised and your soul soothed. Performance makes the arts grow stronger and our Falmouth will be the home to some of the very best.

PENS PAINTS SWORDS & SHIPS - A Living Literature Walk through Falmouth

Scary Little Girls Productions will bring the streets of Falmouth alive with an enthralling blend of interactive performance, poetry and song. MIRACLE THEATRE COMPANY presents THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

Oscar Wilde’s ‘trivial comedy for serious people’ is a masterpiece of sharp wit and preposterous plotting. Set in the year 1912, this tale of the strange contents of a handbag found at Victoria Station has been subtly adapted to extract every drip of humour and contemporary relevance. In this high energy production Miracle adds an extra dimension to ‘the funniest play ever written’. Following Peru’s war on terrorism, Fausta’s relatives believe she suffers from The Milk of Sorrow, a condition transmitted by her Mother, who was violated and mistreated during the country’s upheaval. The war has ended but Fausta lives to be constantly reminded of her condition of fear. The sudden death of her mother forces Fausta to confront these fears and question the peculiar measures her mother took to protect her daughter from a similar fate. David Kemp: Plastic Botany

In conjunction with the exhibition FREE talk by Tim Craven of Southampton City Art Gallery and the organiser of the ‘British Surrealists’ exhibition. A fascinating account of the Surrealists and the stories behind their work.

Running alongside the British Surrealists exhibition renowned artist David Kemp presents his Surrealist inspired giant plastic plant sculptures.
