CELEBRITIES & ASH According to these ASH girls, the chunky sneaker still reigns supreme as the must-have shoe. Model Gigi Hadid and Ariana Grande have been spotted

wearing the ADDICT sneakers more times than we can count (Bella Thorne also loves hers!) It’s not the only ASH sneaker style that’s taking over city streets. This season’s EXTREME was spotted on rising blogger and influencer Caroline Daur, who matched her black pair with a futuristic print coat. Boots are also topping most-wanted lists, including the DOLL which was spotted on Hailey Bieber.

latest news

ASH continues to step into new corners of the globe, with concept stores opening in cities around the world. Milan has been buzzing for a while thanks to its cool mix of art, design and culture, making it the perfect location for a new store on Via Madonnina, near the hip Brera district. Over in the East, Beijing welcomed a new boutique in popular shopping complex, Taikoo Li Sanlitun. A busy year rounded off with an opening in Hong Kong at Shatin’s New Town Plaza.

7 ASH ON THE STREETS...

The spring/summer 2019 fashion week season was one to remember. ASH took over street corners − literally − with glossy billboards and outdoor ads that showcased the hottest styles. The images were shot by acclaimed fashion photographer Fred Meylan and appeared everywhere from newspaper kiosks in Milan to larger-than-life outdoor advertising at Paris’ Galeries Lafayette.

Independent, irreverent and daring − we take a closer look at a group of dynamic women that personif y the ASH girl Hailey Bieber Hailey Baldwin may be the offspring of Hollywood royalty — her father Stephen is one of the handsome Baldwin brothers − but she spent most of her childhood under the radar. When a potential career in ballet was cut short by an injury, she turned to modelling. It wasn’t long before she was gracing covers of magazines like Vogue and Elle and walking the catwalks for

major luxury brands. She has also become a fashion star in her own right, thanks to a unique “off-duty” look which often features streetwear with a luxe edge.

Gigi Hadid The first it-girl of a new generation of millennials, Gigi Hadid has long reigned supreme in the style stakes. She started her modelling career at the age of two, and by 18 she had major fashion campaigns and

advertising covers under her belt (she also boasts one of the largest followings on social media). Gigi may be a supermodel, but her style is a mix of high and low, which she puts together with plenty of attitude. No one else can make activewear look as sexy as she does.

Zoë Kravitz Zoë Kravitz has not only inherited her mother’s stunning looks but also her acting chops. The daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and famed musician Lenny Kravitz, Zoë has appeared in a slew of films since she was a young girl, while her exotic looks have landed her high-profile beauty campaigns. Vogue named her best dressed girl of 2017 and it’s easy to see why — she likes to play

This former wild child − who has been hailed as the next Kate Moss − comes from British high society and immediately courted attention thanks to her no-holdsbarred attitude and equally irreverent style. Despite a highly successful career in modelling, she has turned her attention to acting and even singing. Cara is also known as a fashion maverick when it comes to her personal style. She will often turn up in a men’s tuxedo to a black-tie event or wear leggings with an oversized shearling coat, proving she is all about taking risks.

Kristen Stewart Kristen Stewart became a Hollywood actress at the tender age of nine and went on to star in a range of films that would garner her numerous accolades including a César Award (she was the first American woman to win one). It was only

se Depp

after starring in the successful Twilight film series that began experimenting with different roles and later her fashion style. Known for embracing her inner tomboy (she is always in a pair of sneakers), she continues to be one of Hollywood’s most rebellious dressers.

Stella Maxwell Stella Maxwell may have started out as a Victoria’s Secret girl, but the Belgian-born beauty quickly made the transition from sexy angel into high fashion model thanks to her association with aforementioned fellow it-girls Bieber, Hadid and Stewart (she is rumoured to be romantically linked with the latter). The face of countless of beauty campaigns and high street labels, her style may appear simple − think cropped white T-shirt and a pair of distressed jeans − but it’s all about confidence.

Ruby Rose Ruby Rose started out as a model before becoming a TV host in her native Australia.

Zoë K ravitz

After a move to America, she scored a breakout role in a popular Netflix series and was later cast in several Hollywood films. Ruby’s talent isn’t the only inspiring thing about her. She has also been vocal about her sexuality, making her a positive role model for young girls looking to embrace their true selves. When it comes to her personal style, she experiments with masculine and feminine dress codes to create a look that is just as cool as she is.

Lily-Rose Depp This French-American actress grew up in the spotlight thanks to her famous parents, French model and singer Vanessa Paradis and actor Johnny Depp. Although she originally wanted to be a singer, she secured her first fashion campaign at 16 and went on to star in several films in English and French. While she has inherited her parents good looks, her style is a reflection of her mother’s and embraces Parisian chic with a modern twist.

The fashion and music worlds have always been inextricably linked. Musicians have not only instigated fashion trends but have gone on to become clothing designers themselves (Rihanna, Beyoncé and Gwen Stefani are just a few names that come to mind). But even though most of them continue to achieve commercial success, the fashion industry remains closed off and

dismissive when it comes to acknowledging their talent and accepting them into the fold. The group of musicians that are infiltrating fashion’s inner circle, however, are DJs − and not for the reasons you would think. DJs have always played an important role in how fashion brands market themselves,

and work with them closely on everything from events to runway shows. For years their job was to be heard and not seen, but that quickly changed. Like the rock stars before them, DJs entered the spotlight and evolved into fashion icons and curators of style. Continual exposure to designers and brands meant that many of them developed an eye for fashion, while access to subcultures gave them a unique edge. Not only were they playing for luxury brands but they were wearing them too. Social media such as Instagram helped propel their fame and influence. Overnight,

they achieved a new status in the fashion world − as arbiters of what’s cool and relevant.

appeal to the masses including T-shirts and denim.

It wasn’t long before these star DJs would begin experimenting with their own fashion lines. Japanese DJ Nigo was one of the pioneers, creating a small store selling his own T-shirts and camouflage print hoodies. Although not technically high fashion, it proved incredibly popular with the youth − a market that high fashion struggled to capitalise on.

Soon, it wasn’t just clothing that they were designing. Fellow DJs Verbal and Yoon from Tokyo created Ambush Design Company, first designing album covers and later launching a couture jewellery line that is still popular with the likes of Kanye West. The fact that these DJs have close ties to communities outside of fashion, be it music, design or art, have only helped propel their success.

Others followed suit including Steve Aoki, Tiesto and even Avicii, most of them churning out simple styles that would

And while many have built fashion businesses on their own, others are now being embraced by the world of mega

brands and conglomerates. Thanks to the emergence of new categories such as streetwear, fashion brands have begun recruiting talents not in the hallowed halls of schools like Central Saint Martins, but in the DJ booths of nightclubs. One of the most high-profile examples is Kanye West stylist and creative Virgil Abloh, who is now putting his own spin onto one of the world’s oldest French luxury brands.

34 L I F E S T Y L E

What is your greatest extravagance?

What are your top three tips for a healthier lifestyle?

I never mind spending money on good food. Whether it’s using the best ingredients when I’m cooking or taking myself out to the best restaurant on a random Tuesday. That’s something I’ll never deny myself.

Sweat more, sleep more, smile more!

Adapting my lifestyle to the places I travel.

What’s your favourite workout?

How do you relax?

That’s tough to answer. I’m always mixing it up, from playing tennis to going to various fitness group classes.

Watching the sunset from my home in California.

How would you describe your style?

An eye mask for the plane and hotel because I’m sensitive to light; Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry perfume; and my iPhone — I can’t go anywhere without it!

One thing that I owe my physique to is lifting weights. I find that my body immediately feels tighter and stronger after lifting. A lot of women are worried that they will bulk up but the opposite will happen. The more muscle your body has, the faster you burn calories at rest. Realising that has honestly changed the way I workout. I feel sexier and stronger than ever!

What’s your favourite fashion accessory?

What is your must-have health essential?

A vintage leather jacket.

Everything organic!

What is the best way to style a pair of sneakers?

How do you stay healthy while you travel?

There are no rules. I wear sneakers with everything!

I’m very picky about the flights that I take. If it’s over 10 hours I only do overnight flights. I find that helps me adapt to the new time zone faster so I lose less sleep. I also bring multivitamins when travelling.

Street active. What three items do you always travel with?

1. Hold Me by Milosh 2. Soon-To-Be Innocent Fun/Let’s See by Arthur Russell 3. Silver Dagger by Joan Baez

adrianne’s top 10 playlist

4. Pages of Gold by Flo Morrissey 5. When We’re Fire by Lo-Fang 6. Softly by Rhye

Who is your favourite street style muse? Rihanna! She has so much swag!

7. Slow Motion by Panda Bear 8. Forest by Howling 9. Get Free by Major Lazer feat. Amber Coffmann 10. With You by Drake

How do you keep in shape?

Streetwear or boho chic − which do you prefer? Streetwear. It’s always been part of my personal style. I love that I can be comfortable, stylish, but still laid-back.

What are your beauty essentials? Argan oil for my hair, Vitners Daughter Oil which I use as a moisturiser and Eminence Brightening Peel.

What inspires you?

What’s your favourite city and why? Paris! The city is so romantic and the food is amazing! Where do you go to escape? Big Sur. Where’s next on your travel list? New Zealand. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Be careful whose advice you take. Everyone is so different. Just because something works for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you. What is your definition of luxury? Freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want.
