There will be an ice stage, traditional Christmas Market, children’s activities and a host of favourite Christmas characters including Elsa and Olaf. After 5pm Centre Court’s spectacular firework display will blast off. Turn to page 4 to find out more.

With our two stages jammed with live performances all day – you can see your favourite act either on our Ice Stage next to The Piazza or within Centre Court – but be sure to pop into Santa’s Grotto (at Elys) or frozen ice castle (in Centre Court), get photographed in the snow dome or wrestle with a ‘sumo snowman’. See children’s eyes light up as the Christmas Fairy spreads a little magic in Wimbledon or our elf fire-eater entertains. Hug a giant snowman or ride on one of our carousels; the magic of winter will be upon us. Older children can practise on the snowboard simulator or get thrown from the bucking reindeer. The fantastical Peter Pan at the Polka This winter season, the UK’s first children’s theatre is staging a midtwentieth century interpretation of Peter Pan, with all the favourite fairies, hooks and twists (not forgetting the crocodile!)

Peter Pan is your winter show this year, how are you making Neverland a magical place? The world of flying children, pirates, fairies and mermaids is beautifully described by JM Barrie, which comes to life on the Polka stage with an enchanting set design, multiple trap-doors, atmospheric music, beautiful puppetry and the audience’s imagination. Tell us a bit about behind the scenes. How do you make a show, where do you start? I start by finding a story that I know the audience will love. Peter Pan is a classic, packed with adventure – the rivalry between Hook and Peter, Tinkerbell’s jealousy, the Lost Boys longing for a mother, swashbuckling pirates – all exciting material for a play. Then we bring in the creative team, and at Polka we are lucky to work with some of the best designers and composers in the country. What are the most challenging things about scenery and costumes? We travel to so many different environments in Peter Pan – nursery, moonlit sky, woods, lagoon and a pirate ship – so the scenery has to be versatile, with a transformative lighting design, and the costumes need to be put on quickly and sometimes work on top of another layer. Pretty much everything audiences see on stage at Polka has been made by theatre professionals here in Wimbledon. Puppetry is coming back into fashion. How do you think it engages the young (and everyone else)? A skilled puppeteer with a well-crafted puppet can spark the imagination in an incredible way. Seeing something real on stage, whilst knowing it is made of wood, is a magical feeling for all ages. Our actors in Peter Pan are also talented puppeteers - you’ll have to take a trip to Neverland to see what I mean!
Maybe we all wish we could fly and stay young forever! It’s your 35th year - how does the Polka stay forever young? We put young people at the heart of everything we do, to create world-class theatre for children. As a charity it is always hard work finding the resources to keep going, but we have built such a strong and supportive audience in Wimbledon and beyond over the years. Visiting Polka has become a tradition for many families, especially around Christmas time, and there’s always something going on at Polka - from workshops for children to families popping in to play or use the café. Have you ever dreamt that you could fly?
How does the story of Peter Pan stay so timeless?
Many times, I was a huge fan of Superman movies when I was growing up and I used to soar in the clouds above our garden on many occasions.
Maybe we all wish we could fly and stay young forever!

Shake up something sparkling this Christmas Danielle Cleobury caught up with mixologist Sam Gostelow at Suburban Bar to find out what Christmas cocktails they’re shaking, stirring, twisting and pouring over this festive season. Sam agreed to mix up his favourites from their Christmas cocktails planned for this winter. ‘It’s great that as an independent bar we’re constantly creating our own new, exciting cocktails and they’re great fun to enjoy the holiday season with’. Sam even shared a cocktail recipe that you can do at home just for Wimbledon- it’s easy, fun and most importantly Christmassy! Show off in front of your friends with this tasty Christmas tipple…
‘Rudolph Sweet Rudolph’ Step one: A dusting of snow around the top of the glass. Dip your glass upside into a bowl filled with cinnamon liqueur so that the top rim of the glass is wet. Then dip the glass into a bowl of caster sugar. The sugar will stick to the liqueur, creating a snow effect and the cinnamon will give a Christmassy smell. (Lemon juice can be used if cinnamon is not to your liking) Step two: Adding your liquor! Pour a single shot of sloe gin and a shot of Martini Rosso into a spare glass. Sprinkle one teaspoon of icing sugar into the mix. Step three: Give it a good SHAKE!! Cup your hand flat onto the top of the glass and shake it whilst singing “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”! Step four: Add some Christmas Cheer. Pour your mixture into your cocktail glass and top it up with Prosecco. Garnish with raspberries, cranberries and most importantly a Christmas Candy Cane!

On Sunday 30th November the streets are closing to traffic, the stage is coming, the entertainers are booked and Wimbledon Town Centre is hosting a winter spectacular brought to you by Love Wimbledon on behalf of the businesses in town.

A massive range of local acts and talent will be performing live on our Love Wimbledon stage (opposite Morrisons).
On the streets Fun rides and games all day on The Piazza and The Broadway. Walk into a life size snow globe, try the reindeer rodeo, challenge an elf to giant Jenga or jump on one of many rides open all day. Watch out for the Mad Hatter magician, the giant walking snowman or the firebreathing stiltwalker.
Centre Court 11-5pm The shopping centre will be hosting a second stage during Winter Wonderland with bands, choirs and exciting entertainment, many from the local community.
Firework Extravaganza 5.30pm Countdown to Wimbledon’s firework finale, provided by Centre Court Shopping from their rooftop. This popular display has moved to Sundays so all the family can join us.
Songs, nursery rhymes and stories. Father Christmas and his friends are back for a magical adventure. As an added treat, all the good boys and girls in the audience will be treated to a ‘meet and greet’ with Santa Claus.
