Clayfield Markets Fresh Sold to Harris Farm Markets Clayfield Markets Fresh, on Sandgate Road, has been sold to Harris Farm Markets. Owners Carlo and Susan are excited about the sale, having purchased the markets from Harris Farm 30 years ago. Carlo and Susan will stay on as managers of the site.

Fick Brewing is a European-inspired brewery and bar located in Northgate’s industrial area, run by locals Nadresha Costa and Fabrizio Ceccarelli.

Northgate's European Craft Brewhouse Nadresha and Fabrizio started brewing together while living in Luxembourg and, knowing that Nadresha eventually wanted to return home to Australia, they decided to return for a visit and search for locations. After a catch up with friends in Nundah Village, they loved that things had decentralised and more businesses were setting up in the suburbs. They found their Northgate location, put in an offer, then headed back to Luxembourg to plan their business. Fick is unlike any other brewery in the local area. They have a strong focus on Belgian-style beers, which is understandable with Fabrizio attending brew school in Belgium. Their beers are award-winning, with the Fick team being awarded two bronze medals for their Red IPA and Golden Ale in the Royal Queensland Good Food and Wine Show only months after opening their doors. Nadresha and Fabrizio have a strong focus on local producers, offering a range of Australian wines and spirits alongside their beers. Fick Brewing has its own in-house kitchen and their menu is based on the food of Luxembourg,

with inspiration from neighbouring countries, Belgium, France and Germany.

“We have Tarte Flambée, Belgian-style frites and German sausages," says Nadresha. "We're always making changes to the menu – we plan to use a lot more seasonal produce. Currently we're working on a moules frites recipe – so mussels and chips coming soon!" When you visit you’ll see Nadresha and Fabrizio behind the bar or in the brewery – even with two young children keeping them busy. The couple recently welcomed their daughter Mikka, who joins their three-year old son Rio. "We wanted to create something for locals where people could just walk down and have a beer and we're so happy with how it turned out." Fick Brewing has extended trading hours, and is now open Thursday 3pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm to 10pm and Sunday 12pm to 7pm.

If your business is still being heavily impacted by COVID-19 then you may be eligible to apply for JobKeeper 2.0. JobKeeper 2.0 applies to eligible businesses from 28 September 2020. Accordingly, employers will need to demonstrate that their actual turnover has decreased by 30% in the September 2020 quarter when compared to the September 2019 quarter.

More Food Relief Available Northside Connect is excited to partner with Second Bite and Compassion 4 Community to provide food relief on Thursdays. The Tuesday food relief program, in partnership with OzHarvest, will continue as always. This means the centre is able to assist people in need of fresh fruit and vegetables two days a week. If you, or someone you know, needs fresh food, visit the Centre at 1pm on Tuesday and Thursday and one of the staff members will be able to help you. Additional funding for the Brisbane North Community Legal service during COVID-19 Northside Connect Inc has received one-off additional funding from the Commonwealth Government to deliver front-line legal assistance services for the next 12 months. This additional funding has a strong focus on domestic violence legal assistance and has been allocated in response to the dramatic increase in domestic and family violence that we are seeing during COVID-19.

This funding will allow us to assist more people in our community who require legal advice, information and referral on a range of legal issues. This might include domestic and family violence matters, family law, tenancy, employment, other civil and criminal matters. If you require legal advice, information or referral please contact our office to discuss your legal needs and make an appointment.

New Signage for Northside Connect Thank you to Rotary Club of Nundah who generously provided a grant to Northside Connect for new signage. The signage looks fantastic and will make it much easier for people to find us if they are not familiar with our location.

Northgate Local Ambulance Committee Secures Grant The Northgate Local Ambulance Committee has received a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit fund to purchase a “Sophie and her Mum” birthing trainer for our local stations.

The manikins will provide Ambulance Paramedic Staff the opportunity to practice normal birthing delivery techniques and also procedures where birthing complications arise. The manikins will be used by staff from Northgate and Spring Hill Stations as well as the Critical Care Paramedics based at North Lakes and Kedron. Congratulations to the Northgate Local Ambulance Committee.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 11 November 2020

Brisbane Seniors Online is a not-for-profit group that provides in-home tuition on a one-on-one basis for seniors and over 50s in the Greater Brisbane area, including Nundah and adjoining suburbs. If you would like to become computer-savvy and confident in using modern technology, Brisbane Seniors Online can assist. Home tuition is provided using volunteer mentors (tutors) who teach learners on their own device. Volunteer mentors are always welcome to join Brisbane Seniors Online, including those who are confident to teach Apple devices. Training on personal computers, laptops, Apple devices, tablets and smart phones is available. Brisbane Seniors Online also has digital photography, Linux and Apple Special Interest Groups that meet regularly. Volunteer mentors can attend Mentor Support groups and get assistance and support with any technological issues they have.
