writing I don't know the results, l'm ceftain that whether your candidate won or lost you're relieved that the endless speeches, debates, and recorded phone calls are over. It's exhausting to hear people endlessly promote themselves, whether it's for student-council treasurer or leader of the free world. We all grow weary of the promises, the Iist of accom-plishments, and the often-false humility.
A few weeks ago, our country elected a president. Though at this

ln a timely contrast, today's readings invite us to re-flect on Jesus' kingship. Jesus-the one in whom many candidates claim deep faith-is crowned our ultimate leader, our king, in heaven. Yet his kingly leadership is so different than that of our leaders. The Book of Revelation claims he is "the one who is and who was and who is to come." He's not in it only for four or eight years/ after which he'll retire to a comfortable coastal bungalow. Jesus' kingship is everlasting-he'll never falter, fail, or retire. Revelation also claims "every eye will see him, even those who pierced him."

Unlike our pr.esidential eandi-dates, whose rhetoric divides the country, Jesus as king brings people together. And he cerlainly didn't know the basic rules of self-
promotion-in today's Gospel, he refuses to claim the king title. lnstead, continu-ally points to his Father and their intimate connection.

Do you know who St. Augustine of Hippo is? One of his famous prayers is, "Almighty God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you" He lived a life of dissolute and was finally baptized. His mother, Monica, prayed for him fervently and a bishop once consoled her with these words, "the child of those tears shall never perish." 6:oo p.m. Potluck suPper Movie at 6:45 p.m.

Mark 72.2Bb-34
We still revere the Body of Christ, but the current Ceneral Instnrction of the Roman Missal no longer gives such lengthy procedures, relying instead on the common sense and respect of the priest and the communicant. If the host iails on the floor, the priest or communicant should reverently pick it up and set it aside lor later disposal by the priest. No orher ritual cleaning is prescribed. If the Precious Blood is spilled, wash the area with water, and then pour the water into the sacrarium' a special sink usually located in the sacristy that drains directly into the Earth instead of through the sewage system. Sometimes, as in your case, dropping or spilling at Communion can't be helped-but it should be a rate occurrence. The host should be shared slowly as we remember that the One who feeds us died so we might live. Fr. Richard Fragomeni I sundaybulletins@liguori.org Adapted fromThe Eucharist: 50 Questions From the Pea;s. For more information, call 800-325-9521 ot visit liguori.org

Dear Linda. -fhe Tridentine Missal, the Mass book from the Council of Trent (1545-1,563), gave a lengthy procedure for picking up the consecrated host, washing the area it had failen on, and then washing the cloth used to clean up. This extended ritual demonstrated a concern that not one particle of the host be trampled underfoot.
