Being a bit of a liturgical geek, I have many favorite elements of the Easter liturgies, among them the Easter Vigil baptisms, the dark church enlightened by the paschal candle, and the first sprinkling rite of the season.

Some parishes practice a ritual before Ash Wednesday called "burying the Alleluia." A cloth on which Alleluia is printed is ceremoniously "buried"hidden away during Lent. At the Easter celebration, it bursts fofth from its tomb along with Jesus. Alleluia, which means "praise God," is a word of joy, hope, and promise. lt always feels great to sing it again.

ln the Lukan account of the resurrection proclaimed at the Easter Vigil, the disciples are at first confused by the empty tomb but, Scripture says, "they remembered his words." They recalled what Jesus had said about his rising after three days.
Saturday, April 6:
On Easter, we remember the word Allelura after it has been buried for forty days. lt's a word that celebrates Jesus' incredible triumph over sin and death, and his promise of new life for us. Remember the Alleluia this day-and throughoutthe Easter season. Thanks be to God indeedl

the Lord encouragesJob's friends to seek his intercession on their behalf, Then in 1 Thessalonians 5:25, Saint Paul asks Church members in Thessalonica to pray for him and his missionary companions: "Brothers, pray for us." In neither the New nor Old Testament is there a concern that it might be inappropriate to ask liuing members of one's faith community for support in prayer before God. Therefore, ifwe believe the saints are "living" members of our community, why would we not ask for their prayerful support just as we do the flesh-and-blood members of the communitywe can see and touch? Christ is the one true mediator benveen God and humans, but Christ calls us into a community of faith. Prayer with the saints celebrates and builds this community that God delights in working through and in. To ignore the saints is to deprive ourselves of gifts that God freely chooses to give.'We hope to be in communion with the saints forever. For now, we strengthen our fellowship with them through prayer.
