the brutal acts of terrorism in Barcelona, $pain, that took away rnore than a dozen lives, and left scores of injured with millions in mourning. The antidote to evil is not more evil, but love. Hatred begets hatred; and love begets love. ln our faith tradition, we conquer evil with goodness and forgiveness and we overcome our sadness with the confidence in the justice of God and the joy of believing.

our parishioners, visitors and friends, in particular, those participating in our music ministry. Since early times, music has been an important part in our liturgical gathering. As Father Russell Roide recently expressed, "The music ministry af Sfs. Peter and Paul is superb. We ean all sing off the roof."

Not only do our members in the choir participate in the Eucharistic celebration, many also support various church ministries. We thank them for giving their time and lalents serving our community and also giving of themselves in God's joyful service to others. Beginning this coming September, before the 6 PM Sunday Mass, there will be a weekly fellowship gathering at 4:30 pm and a rehearsal at 5 p.m. to prepare for the 6 pm Mass. This opportunity brings us together to get to know one another, to walk the walk of faith, and to accompany one another on lhe journey of life. lf you are one who: J a can sing in the shower

Dear Parishioners of Sts. Peter and Paul, This last week our Parish Social Concerns Team was confronted with this very challenge above. We found ourselves face to face with a family-members of our own parish-who were living in their ca r.

Through no fault of their own, the farnily (which consists of a father who is employed, a mother and 4 children ages 10, 9, 7 and 5), were living in their car in a parking lot. They were homeless, hungry, frightened and desperately seeking help.

Our Parish response to crisis

lmmediately after nreeting the family and hearing their story, our Staff and Parish Social Concerns Tearn scrambled to meet the immediate needs of our own Ohana standing before us" With shelters full, we pulled oLir resources together to give the family a safe place to stay and food in their stomachs. Through the generous donations of loving Barishioners who came forward after hearing their story, our parish has been able to provide imnrediate safe shelter for a week and get the children back into se hool. Working closely with our partner agencies we have secured funding to help the family gain permanent housing" But today, the family is sfill horneless, frightened and desperately praying for help. Aittrough tlrey are in safe shelter, we are challenged with the obstae les standing in their way of becoming self suffieient" Exhausfing all of our resources we are nowturningto oLm'parishioners to ask for your help" We know God brought this family to us fon a reason, we also know that His Divine Providenee {the helpthey need) is sitting in our pews" Perhaps yau are their help. This family are members of our parish and are eonsidered "the workin g poor" meaning the

The community of faith in every age it is the only one that knotvs the truth in Christ. lsaiah's faith helped irim to r-ealize that God loved everyone and extended his love to everyone. tends to think

All of today's readings have a common theme: how Jesus' words to his Jewish brothers and sisters influence our faith.

The Catholic Church's relationship with our Jewish brothers and sisters has been strengthened dramatically over the last years. This is thanks in large part to Vatican ll's Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (Nosfra Aetate), padicularly Judaism.

Our deep connection with Judaism is rooted in the fact it was to these Chosen people God offered the Old Covenant. We are also indebted to them because their history and culture formed the lives of the people of God and the Holy Family, from which the early Church sprung. Christianity's firm belief that Jesus was the long awalted Messiah is the reason our Church is like a shoot sprung from the root of Jesse. This differbnce was something Paul's Letter to the Romans dealt with directly*the need for all, both Jews and Gentiles, to accept Jesus.

The key element to this acceptance is the faith shown in the Gospels. Jesus reaches out to his fellow members of the house of Judah yet also recognizes that a Canaanite (Gentile) woman has faith that teads to salvation. This has key implications for both insiders and outsiders: One can no longer claim salvation by a bloodline or nationality but only by one,s acceptance of Jesus as the Son of God and active participation in his body, the Church. Jesus broadens the welcome and opens God's house to all people.
