RichandAmy (no spaces). They're high school sweethearts drawn in a permanent embrace. They've spent so much time physically entwined that their friends now see them as one person with one name: RichandAmy. You probably know a real-life couple like RichandAmy, and the media often see celebrity couples this way: "Brangelina" and "Bennifer," to name two. ls this what Jesus meant by "the two shall become one flesh" in marriage? I don't think so. I grappled with this reality when preparing for my own marriage. How do two separate, unique people "become one flesh"? It's not an either/or experience, I believe. The married couple becomes a new, united creation, but at the same time, each partner retains his and her individuality. My husband and I didn't become "JanelandRon" on our wedding

But as a married couple, we became a new creation, bound uniquely in God. I cringe when couples light the unity candle at their wedding and then extinguish the two individual candles. COLLECTION-Oct 5 & 7
Our Special Collection this week will be for Catholic Charities Hawaii. Mr. Wesley Fong who serves on the Board will be speaking to us at the 4 pm and the 9:3o am Mass. This organization does much for those in need in Hawaii and often unacknowledged. During these hard economic times there are more and more people who need help. CCH has stepped up to fillthe gaps. Let's all help.
YEA,R CF FAITH Pope Benedict XVI has declared October Li1 2oazto November 24t 207-2. the Year of Faith. The upcoming Year of Faith is a "summons to an
as
authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world" (Porta Fidei 6).ln other words, the Year of Faith is an opportunity YEAR OF FATfiSii for Catholics to experience a conversion - to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him. The "door of faith" is opened at one's baptism, but during this year Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover and renew their relationship with Christ and his Church. Celebrate the opening Mass of the "Year of Faith" on Tuesdan October gth at 7.oo p.m. at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa. Sign up if you need a ride or if you are able to drive others. Mahalo.
M]\HALO Special thanks to all who helped with the Liturgical Enrichment day on Saturday. Continue to pray for all those who minister among us in Christ's name and for his kingdom. We are gratefulfor allyou do. Thank you to Debbie Fujiyama and Ginny Jordan for their coordination. A 'make-up' day will be October zSth after 9:3o a.m. Mass. Mahalo also to those who participated in the Eucharistic Adoration day. The air in the chapel was 'thick' with a spirit of worship. We trust that God will continue to bless those who came and those who were unable to.
HOUSEKEEPING Organ fixed MAHALO for your patience. The organ is finally fixed and actually has been in need of repair for many years. The pedals are now connected again and Mr. tsill Petty who repairs organs for Sanders Piano, the only organ repair person on the island looked far and wide for the speakers as the organ manufacturer is no longer and parts are hard to come by. Cost was $44o vs $4o,ooo. Mahalo Mr. Petty.
