The Fashion World is another artistic expression, instrument of power for the designer and the wearer. In this issue we publish Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe on view at Brooklyn Museum. Patrick Earl Hammie was our choice for The Artist of The Month. His paintings full of strength and inspired on the emotive qualities of Romanticism reveal his unquestionable domain of technique, and the gift of using the female and male body language in order to show the inner duality and the ideal beauty of nudity. A struggle between the”self ” and the “other”, two different entities, yet the same linked by the image reflected on a mirror. We Highlight Federico Infant’s solo exhibition, THE SPACE BETWEEN on view at Bertrand Delacroix Gallery. His works depict beautiful universes and the contrast between the subject and the ambiguous backgrounds reveal the complex relationship between reality, spirituality and the subconscious. The last but not the least is the solidified growth of the Partnership between Line & Stylish, Art Magazine and TM- Art and ART Antwerp, founded by Mr.Thomas Maes. Isabel Gore (Vice Director

Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe September 10, 2014–February 15, 2015 Brooklyn Museum Robert E. Blum Gallery, 1st Floor

“Italian Chopine”, 1550–1650. Silk, metal. Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gift of the Brooklyn Museum, 2009; Gift of Herman Delman, 1955. 2009.300.1494a, b. Brooklyn Museum photograph, Mellon Costume Documentation Project Photographers; Lea Ingold and Lolly Koon 6

Killer Heels explores fashion’s most provocative accessory. From the high platform chopines of sixteenth-century Italy to the glamorous stilettos on today’s runways and red carpets, the exhibition looks at the high-heeled shoe’s rich and varied history and its enduring place in our popular imagination. As fashion statement, fetish object, instrument of power, and outlet of artistic expression for both the designer and the wearer, throughout the ages the high-heeled shoe has gone through many shifts in style and symbolism. Deadly sharp stilettos, architecturally inspired wedges and platforms, and a number of artfully crafted shoes that defy categorization are featured among the more than 160 historical and contemporary heels on loan from designers, from the renowned Brooklyn Museum costume collection housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and from the Bata Shoe Museum. Designers and design houses represented in Killer Heels include Manolo Blahnik, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Zaha Hadid X United Nude, Iris van Herpen X United Nude, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, André Perugia, Prada, Elsa Schiaparelli, Noritaka Tatehana, Vivienne Westwood, and Pietro Yantorny.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Artist Statement Considering the potential paintings of the human figure have to reflect the values of the period in which they are produced, my work investigates the expectations built into this canonical genre, probing and dismantling the idealizing impulses that have historically shaped it. Drawing on the emotive qualities of Romanticist painting and its use of heroic proportions to engage with political and humanistic expression, I focus specifically on constructions of gender and race, putting pressure on these categories as a means of expanding understandings of identity, and reconfiguring inherited conceptions of ideal beauty and heroic nudity. My recent work presents a female and a male figure locked in a physical dialogue, hefting weight, and relocating the perceptions of ruined and objectified bodies that recall and carry on complex legacies of suffering and struggle. Informed by historical representations of Otherness, I imagine bodies as occasions for us to encounter difference toward considering their capacity for establishing new narratives- Patrick Earl Hammie

FEDERICO INFANTE THE SPACE BETWEEN SOLO EXHIBITION

October 2 – November 1, 2014 Bertrand Delacroix Gallery

BDG is thrilled to present Federico Infante’s debut US solo exhibition, THE SPACE BETWEEN. The young Chilean’s acrylic masterpieces blend figurative and abstract elements to create ethereal worlds on paper and canvas. His all-new collection will remain true to his signature style but will experiment with new themes and artistic directions as he evolves as a painter; Infante himself said he is proud of the “maturity of the [upcoming] collection.”

34

Federico Infante Clear Words, 2014 Acrylic on Paper, 40” x 32” 35

Inspired by the Chilean landscape, by everyday life in New York City and by his own intuition, Infante creates honest paintings that portray beautiful, dream-like universes. Infante seamlessly juxtaposes layers of multiple colors to achieve serene yet powerful palettes. His compositions incorporate sections of realism with portions of abstraction. The colorful backgrounds of his works, some more articulated than others, are typically foggy with visible evidence of the artist’s process – drips and streaks of paint. Emerging from these unclear surroundings, the viewer finds a beautifully rendered figure, usually turned away or unaware of the viewer’s gaze, immersed in his or her own internal contemplation. The carefully articulated subject in contrast to the ambiguous background suggests the complex relationship between reality, spirituality and the subconscious.

Although a young artist, Infante has quickly distinguished himself in the American market. Since his introduction to the gallery in the spring of last year, Infante’s works have consistently sold out. Infante received his BFA from Finis Terrae University in 2002 and graduated in the spring of 2013 with his MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was the recipient of the Uanlane Foundation Scholarship (2012), the Conicyt Scholarship (2009), and the Juan Downey Grant (2004). He has had several successful solo and group exhibitions in Chile. His work has been adopted into private collections across the US and internationally, including France, Belgium, Germany and Singapore. Infante currently lives and works in New York; he will attend the opening on October 2 and is available for interviews.

EDDIE MARTINEZ

"NOMADER" September 12 – October 25, 2014 Kohn Gallery Kohn Gallery is pleased to present “Nomader”, an exhibition of new paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by New York-based artist Eddie Martinez. This will be the artist’s first solo show in Los Angeles and at the Kohn Gallery. Martinez draws his inspiration from a wide-range of sources, spanning from the ever-evolving landscape of the city to major art historical movements of the 20th century such as Abstract Expressionism, CoBrA, Neo-Expressionism, and Surrealism. An immediacy and physicality inhabit this work thanks to Martinez’s simultaneously gritty and graceful visual language. It’s a remarkably strong, muscular type of painting resulting from the influences of urban culture and the unrestrained emotionality of the modern masters.
