OLD business Surf City Marathon For this event, the members helped volunteer at the OC Surf City Marathon at Huntington Beach. When we arrived at the area, we went to the check out area where we received our volunteer shirt and badge. After that, we were placed in our different stations and I got placed in the personal belongings section where I was in charge of finding the runner's bags so that I could give it to them. Honestly, I found this event extremely fun since everyone had a job to do and we were all working together. After two hours of working, the event coordinators let us have a lunch break where they provided actual meals. Then, the members were given boxes of coconut water for free and we were given free shirts too. Overall, I think this has been my favorite event throughout the whole term since all the members were given fun tasks, free stuff, and a lunch break, while helping out the runners! - Linh Hoang, 12
Cards for Health Care Workers One of the Key Club events I attended this month was Cards for Healthcare Workers. This event took place on Zoom, on both January 20th and the 27th, and I had a lot of fun doing it. The ice breakers we did for this event were super entertaining. I played Pictionary with different members and we made each other laugh with our hilarious guesses. For this event, we made appreciation cards for healthcare workers while having the option to watch a movie or just listen to music. Personally, I really enjoyed this event since I had total creative freedom and I could show healthcare workers how much I appreciate their work, especially during these hard times. For each card, I would draw and decorate the front with different puns and pictures. Then I would write a short note on the back expressing my thanks to these workers. This event was really relaxing as well, which was another bonus. - My Doan, 10
valentine's Card Making The Valentines Card Making event was definitely one to remember. It was a great opportunity to talk and interact with the members. While socializing with everyone in the club, we were making Valentine's cards for our teachers. The cards were an appreciation for all their hard work. Members put in all their creativity and efforts into making them and they turned out so beautiful. The cards contained beautiful drawings and images, sweet notes for the teachers, as well as small saying and puns. Looking at all the cards was mind blowing as they were all so amazingly done by our members. While making the cards we not only were able to socialize with everyone but we were also listening to music. Members were able to recommend what song they wanted to listen to by putting it on the board. It was definitely very therapeutic to listen to your favorite songs and get your creativity on by making cards for some of our favorite teachers. In summary, this was definitely a very fun and interactive event where we go to put our artistic skills into serving our community and giving thanks to all of our teacher's hard work. - Mylie Diep, 11
Random Acts of kindness service week I enjoyed participating in the Random Acts of Kindness Service Week because I was able to make people smile with a small gesture such as making a card or writing letters of appreciation. I’m thankful I had this opportunity since it allowed for me to let my loved ones know my gratitude for everything they’ve done for me. I also had fun with the acts everyday especially Freerice. Knowing that I could help those apart from my community made me feel like I truly had an impact. - Mindy Nguyen, 10
February DCM: Singing Into Service On February 19th, I attended our division’s February DCM: Singing into Service. At this event, we got the opportunity to interact with members from Division 4 East, 4 West, and 30 North in various fun ice breakers. An icebreaker that was most memorable to me was when we played a speed dating game. For this game, members were divided into two lines and got to introduce themselves to their partner and learn more about each other’s interests. We also competed in a TikTok challenge. Afterwards, each division held their respective DCMs. Then, all four divisions came together to sing karaoke while having a picnic with their friends. I had a very fun time at this DCM because it was my first time at a karaoke-themed DCM and I thought it was very fun that we got to meet new Key Clubbers in our region. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely recommend this event to others! - Teresa Nguyen, 11
