Heyo Key Clubbers! Wow, this year has been such an adventure. I made so many great memories which I am endlessly grateful for. This school year coming to an end is definitely bittersweet, I do not want to leave it, but I know the future has a lot in store. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun putting together the last newsletter of this school year, enjoy!

HAPPY JUNE, KEY CLUBBERS!! I hope you all are having a relaxing summer so far. I want to take the time to thank everyone that attended our 2022 End-of-the-Year Banquet and I hope you all had an absolute blast as well! Although we may be on a summer break, do not worry—there will still be plenty of Key Club events throughout the summer that you all can participate in! In the meantime, make sure to stay cool and I’ll hopefully see you all soon!

SDCCU OC MARATHON & OC HALF MARATHON _____________________ On May 1st, I attended the SDCCU OC Marathon and Half Marathon. The morning started when we first arrived and were welcomed to the event. After we were given instructions and information on how exactly we would be helping out, we were directed to our various different stations. At these stations, we prepared and unpacked many different foods that we would eventually hand out to marathon runners after they passed the finish line. Soon enough, everything became incredibly exciting as finishers rolled in and we began assisting in bringing these runners bottles of water, granola bars, and many more snacks to help replenish their energy after a long and tiring run. We also cheered on and congratulated hundreds as each and every one of them reached the finish line. This was my first time helping at a marathon event. However, I had a very memorable time seeing the triumphant looks on all the runners as they completed the run and earned their medals.

MARCH FOR BABIES ___________________

March for Babies was a fun event where we were able to not only walk a mile for mothers and babies but, also hang out and get to know our sister clubs from different schools. We played fun icebreakers with only our districts at first and then we started to expand with games like ''Bang!'' This one was lots of fun as one our very own members had won. Then, in a cheerful mood, we headed to the start of the march. We were handed these adorable and fun, white and purple, long-stranded pom poms. We marched along and there were people set up as checkpoints along the march route to motivate and cheer us on! I found this very helpful and reassuring. We had done one mile and near the end we turned back and got another pom pom. The workers were so sweet about this and it felt like such a refreshing service event. We then took pictures with our district, then the whole group, and more. We were able to watch people dance when the DJ pumped up the tunes and overall, the mood along all Key Clubbers was indescribably joyful. Though, we were cut short in march distance, our attitude and our numbers made more an impact than those miles. I hope to attend again and this event was very fun and well-organized!

THOMAS PAINE BOOK FAIR __________________________

The event was a great experience and really fun even though I worked outside the book fair. A few friends and I were handing out snacks to students, parents, staff, and some classmates that visited for fun. The four of us were making up fun slogans so we could pass out the free cookies. When it was slower, we restocked water and organized the table which was nice to have a couple minutes when there was less people. After parents and students went home, we went to the book fair location and help take it down. The student who was ‘leading’ us were also helpful and in the end we all got to know each other better through ice breakers she suggested. From my perspective, this was a really fun, and relaxing event and a bonus that it was at my old elementary school.

CRAWFISH FESTIVAL ____________________

On May 22nd, I volunteered at the annual Crawfish Festival at Mile Square Park. I came around 1PM and found Evalyn, the other officer who I was going to be volunteering with. The event itself was really lively and seemed to be fun. The festival had several rides with kids and adults alike going on. I heard plenty of screams of joy at several rides. For the volunteering itself, Evalyn, another member, and I picked up trash and changed the trash bags in the trash cans. We walked around the entire festival to pick up trash. There were a couple of times we stopped and were able to take a break while also watching a magic show! On our breaks, I even got ice cream and chatted with some of the members. Overall, it was a very relaxing event with not much to do, but the overall atmosphere was lively and I would definitely do it again.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL ______________

Strawberry Fest was a very fun and down to earth experience. Through this event I was able to get out of the house and use my time to do something productive. Furthermore, I was able to interact with other Key Club members, strengthen my teamwork skills, and serve my community. My shift was from 5pm to 7pm at a food booth and I helped with assembling the food. I would say the work was easy going yet fulfilling. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the amount of customers because the rest of my fellow Key Clubbers were very helpful. Working at a booth like this made me appreciate those who dedicate their time into seemingly easy jobs that are usually overlooked. Time went by rather quickly since I was able to relax but also still diligently focus on my tasks. After the event, I left feeling fulfilled because the money raised would go to students in need in Garden Grove. When my shift ended I was able to reward myself by exploring the festival and using this time to take my mind off finals. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Strawberry Fest and if I had the chance I would definitely come back next year.
