When talking to some of my Year 2 Business Studies students this week, I was delighted to hear that most have started to receive offers for Universities, or action is taking place to look for Summer-start Apprenticeships. Some appear nervous, and some unsure, but overall there is a growing sense of excitement, I think, as they start to realise that all their hard work is going to result in a positive outcome – progression along a career path that they have thought about and chosen. It is a great thing to see and I am delighted that things are coming together. As for those who look a little anxious? Well, if I am honest, I’d be a little worried if they did not look like that; if they did not have concerns; if they were not wondering what lies ahead and if it is right for them. These are all perfectly normal feelings and I believe it represents students who are taking the future seriously and facing up to the unknown. It takes courage and I think this needs acknowledging for our intrepid students. For those who haven’t sorted things out yet, then the good news is that it is not too late to start.
The UCAS application deadline was extended, leading to a record number of applications, but it will still be possible to apply after results are released in the summer if non-applicants have a lastminute change of heart. For those who are considering other options like Apprenticeships, the Spring Term is alive with activity. In this edition, we have spotlighted several Events taking place in the coming weeks and I encourage everyone to engage with these opportunities to learn more, if you are Year 1, and to consider applying if you are Year 2. Do remember, it is also perfectly acceptable to apply and secure opportunities in more than one organisation, whether that is a University place and an Apprenticeship, or multiple Apprenticeship positions. Don’t rush your decision making, and realise that you won’t get into trouble if you hold more than one offer, but it would be good if you informed the organisation you are going to reject as soon as you have made up your mind.
